My Friend Wants To Become An Actress

I want to become an actress but how do I start?

Cheesy and lame maybe, but I think I've made up my mind in wanting that.

Thing is I have no clue on how to start or what to do and how to lose my extreme shyness (sp?) yeah I'm shy but want to become an actress so how do I work that out?

I'm also 16 now, I'm starting my job next month to raise money if needed. I moved back to brasil so the chances are extremely low, but that's what the money is for, to move back to us and stuff.

Its gonna be tough work but all worth it for me.

I read in a few actors and actresses I like and others very famous on how they began their career, most of them went to acting school? So I'm guessing I will have too?

If so how much? What's it like?

I love acting around when no ones around, but not in front of others! So how to work this out and how do I start after moving back to us? Oh and is there a sertan age you have to start? I mean how do younger actors and actresses started?

I want to become one because I want to get money to help my mom and dad with the bills and stuff.

I want to become an actress! Thoughts?

If you’re reading this you’re either thinking that I’m dreaming too big or that it is unnecessary to post it here but this is a dream I’ve had for the longest time and honestly that’s all I want to do. The only career I have interest in. I’m 17 and at this stage we are starting to decide what paths we are going in as well as what courses to choose & though I have an occupation which I would like to do, it doesn’t fill my heart. I say it because I’m not bold enough to say “an actress”, it’s sort of like a cover or maybe because I’m not positive enough that my dreams of acting will actually come true so I’m just trying to find an alternative. The occupation which I chose is not something I want to spend the rest of my life doing, infact there’s no occupation I would rather do than act. Conclusively, I just want your thoughts and advice & I’m asking here because I’m not really bold enough to actually ask any of my friends/ family because honestly its not everyday you hear someone say they want to become an actress i feel like they’ll look at me like I am stupid ( stupid isn’t the right word but I’m just trying to paint the idea)

I'm 13 years old and I want to become an actress?

I have looked on a whole bunch of websites and they either don't call or there isn't anything that I wanted to do. Like i put down that I wanted to be an actress and they gave me modeling. I don't know how much an agent costs, and I'm sure we can't afford one. I am White/Arabic. 5'5, brown curly hair, brown eyes, (I have green contacts), I weigh 175, and i actually do look pretty :P

I can do a british, and western accent very well. I'm funny & have a great personality :)

Also, does anyone know if there are any movies, like Narnia, Prince of Persia, POTC, or any action adventure movies like that, that have any auditions?

Thanks :)

My girlfriend wants to become an actress. She has to kiss and be around other guys sexually...?

Dude, if you can't handle dating an actress, well than my advice is either try to get used to the fact that she is doing these things for her profession. Or find another girl. Also, I am sick of all the sexist answers on here. Your girlfriend isn't your damn property, just try to understand what she does with her life. And if you can't handle it leave her, don't try to freaking boss her around.

My friend wants to be an actress/get a job in acting, what qualifications does she need?

Hi - I'll address this to your friend so you can print it out to show her, or email it to her.

The GCSE is great, but it's going to take a lot more than that.
I'm in the UK too, and my daughter recently graduated from drama school and is now a working actor.
If you are serious about wanting to act, you should start by reading every play you can get hold of, reading books, and going to a theatre club or stage group and learning everything you can.
Nothing you are taught at school is a waste of time – you never know what is going to be really useful for you as an actor, and even stuff like history, geography, science, cooking, maths, etc, will probably come in handy when you least expect it. Actors need to be very intelligent, able to understand loads of subjects, well-read, for example able to read Shakespeare and so on. It’s no good reading a script if you can’t understand what your character and the others are talking about!

Work hard at all your school subjects and get as many GCSEs as you can so you can get onto a college course in Drama or Performing Arts, with extras like Psychology, English, Sociology, etc.
After A Levels, you’ll be able to apply to get into a drama school, although these are all very hard to get into. Up to 4,000 applicants apply for 24 places, in each school, every year.

You will need to be able to work on stage as well as to camera. Singing is often required, so join a choir or try to afford lessons somehow. Dance is also useful. It’s a good idea to have some other skill which you can use to earn money in between acting jobs – you’ll need it! Typing, bar work, office work, shop work – anything you can do, really, but make sure you quite enjoy it too, as you’ll probably spend more time doing than that acting!

You are looking at years of hard work, very little glamour, terrible rates of pay – if any – doing odd jobs just to pay the bills while you’re auditioning for acting work. It’s not something you should even be considering unless you’re totally passionate about acting and can’t imagine doing anything else. You’ll probably never be famous, or make much money, but if it’s what you really want, go for it. If it’s just a nice idea because it sounds fun and exciting and so on, forget it.
Good luck!

I want to become an actress and i am only 12 years old. Where do i start and how can i achieve my dream?

The best places for you to start acting is at school, and at church. Do your best to get into all of the school plays - get the libretto for the play, and learn the lines for the character you want to portray. Learn the lines with more than just your head, too - learn the lines emotionally. After all, the reason so many people think Shakespeare is boring is because they've never heard the lines spoken as if by a real person, with real emotions behind the words!

Your middle school, or junior high, should hold a play once in a while - if not, then see if you can start an acting club in your school, until they find the money to hire a theater teacher!

Many churches have youth groups, and many youth groups put on a play each year - don't let it get you down if "religious" plays aren't really your thing; you're trying to build a resume, while the others are just trying to have a little fun.

Outside of school and church, there's also local amateur theater groups. Just type in your zip code, followed by "local amateur theater," in your favorite search engine and you'll probably get at least one hit.

Another thing to consider - even if you don't get cast in the play, you can still find out about being a techie on the set. It's not the same as being cast, but it does get you involved, and should aid in making you more recognizable to the rest of the people involved in the play - in other words, it might be the shoe in the door, so you don't keep getting shut out. It's a sad thing, but some of these acting groups operate as much on how popular you are in the group, as on how well you can act. The positive of this is that you're young enough to not have much competition in your age group during casting.

The TV show "Friends," though? That was cancelled... before you were born? I would have expected something a little more recent, but it's nice to know that such "vintage" (big LOL) TV is still inspiring people.

Good luck, and as I'm sure others will tell you - be careful. There are not only some real weirdos and dangerous nuts out there, but you'll run into some (gasp!) actors, too!

I want to become an actress but my parents wont let me?

Take a drama class at school, join your community theatre, bring books home about different acting techniques, heck just starting staging shows in your living room. If all you ever talk about, read about and do is acting, maybe they'll see you really are serious about this and support you.

Because you need your family's support if you want to do this. It is hard, depressing, soul crushing work to try and make it as an actor, but for those who live, breathe and love the work it is rewarding beyond all comparison when you get it.

And if your parents won't let you be involved in acting no matter what you say or try and do, than try and get in through the back door. Take dance lessons, singing, or get involved with the school band which are all very useful talents for an actress to have.

Acting is so much more than being famous or rich, and in fact those are stupid, naive reasons to try and get into this art. So make sure you're doing it for the love of it, not the idea. Maybe when you actually get to do it on a real stage or screen- you won't like it after all (and wouldn't that be a good thing to hint to your parents so that they'll at least let you try...)
