Can a hamster's broken/sprained foot heal by itself?
Hi! Well, first off, are you for sure its broken? If so, then a vet visit wont do much good. As they cant fix this in such small pets. As for it healing on its own, it depends on how bad it is. If its just cracked somewhere it could possibly heal on its own. If its dragging the foot and you can definantly tell its broken, there is little chance. If you can, depending on what breed of hamster (dwarf or syrian) you cood put a small cast type of thing on his leg. Such as ribbon which was mentioned above. Not many hamsters will show signs of pain. My hamster broke her foot about 2 months back and shes still happy and healthy. Her foot was acctually dragging. She still ran on her wheel and everything. I removed the wheel to prevent hurting her self more. Also if possible, place her/him in something without bars. This way the hamster cant climb and hurt his/her foot moree. With my experience, my hamster foot started shrinking(i know weird) and she just kinda wobbled for a few weeks. She still ate and drank fine though. She now knows how to walk with it and yes, if its bad enough, they will chew their limbs off. My hamster has yet to do that, but might in the near future. Other then this, try and make him/her as comfortable as possible. If there are more serious injuries you dont want to make it worse. Check to make sure he/she is doing fine and eating and drinking each day. Also depending on what caused the broken limb, he could go into shock. I wish you the best of luck! Hamsters foot might be broken/sprained?
So i found my robo dwarf hamster this morning laying down with his foot caught and pinched in part of his cage, i dont know how long he was there, either over a day or less than, and my dad got him out but his foot is red with a little bit of blood and swollen and he's not using it when he walks because its kind of twisted backwards and in the air. My dad says it wasnt caught in there tight and it was loose and easy to get out but i dont know if he was just saying that to make me feel better, he looks like hes in a lot of pain. Whenever he walks he shakes a little bit, im guessing from pain, and his fur looks different, like its unclean and not fluffy like usual. I took all of his toys out and the thing he got caught in so he can't play and hurt himself more. What should I do? I'm calling the vet tomorrow, but could it be broken? Should I wrap it or put neosporin on it? What could the vet do? Is there anything I can do to put him out of pain? He looks so miserable.
My hamsters nails are falling off?
Nails coming off is mostly due to them being too long. depending on if the nail root was removed from the toe will determine if a new nail will grow. Mine have done that a few times too. I'd take your hamster to the vet just to play it safe. Concerning the water bottle, listen to him when he drinks. and watch the bottle. If you hear the ball moving and see bubbles, your hamster is getting water. Congrats on the offspring. Hope you have a cage for each one or some homes they will be going to... (If Syrians. If dwarf, separate the boys and the girls.)

-Take him to an exotics vet. Depending on the severity of the break, the vet might wrap it up, perhaps with a splint, or have to do surgery, or simply give pain medication (meloxicam and carprofen are used) and tell you to keep him from excessive activity. You should then take everything out of his cage that he can climb on, and give him soft bedding to burrow in so he doesn't go crazy from boredom, until the leg heals. *Also, if you have a wire wheel, either replace it with a plastic wheel with a solid running surface, or cover the outside of the wheel with cardboard to provide a solid surface. Wire wheels are known to cause breaks. also Be sure to isolate him from any other hamsters and keep his food and water supply fresh *Now if you want to try something yourself try Take one table spoon of salt, half a table spoon of turmeric powder (this is a yellow powder used in asian cuisine) add half a cup water and heat it gently on low fire, when the mixture thickens take an old peice of rag or bandage clothe and mix with the rest of the mixture. when it is luke warm wrap this rag round the broken leg with a little pressure. this bandage will dry quickly because of the salt in it. Leave it for 2-3 days or until the hamster starts walking without any difficulty. You can also wet the bandage twice daily with the rest of the mixture after heating it again to make it a liquid form. I tired this on a broken leg of a one month old chick and it worked. Well you need to take that wheel out, never give animals the type of wheels that have little gaps in them, ig you want to get him a wheel you should've got him one of those plastic ones with ridges and no gaps at all. If part of his leg is hanging off, then he must have lost a lot of blood. He really needs a vet, and its Friday, so you should be able to call one, and if you can't then call an emergency vet, although you might not be able to afford it, they can give you advice over the phone. And no a vet will not put your hamster to sleep unless you wnat them too, a vet cannot force you to let them put down your pet, they might refuse to operate on him because he's so small , but then again they might say that he might die during surgery, because hamsters are very hard to operate on, but they will try anyway as long as your willing to pay for it even if he dies. They will try to save him. Now if his leg is hanging its not good. Is the actual part of the leg thats hanging dead? Can he move the hanging part at all, if it literally hanging by a thread? If the leg is dead then it will start to decompose, which will smell and could cause complications for your hamster. He needs a vet the vet will treat him with something that will prevent infections and he will probably get some antibiotics and a painkiller. The vet will be able to remove the leg properly and safely, because if you just pull it off , one this will hurt the hamster, and two the vet will be able to reconnect the nerves and arteries so it can still function, teh vet me need to cut the leg of even higherto make it easier for him to move and stuff. But they won;t put him to sleep unless you want them too. So I really think you hammie needs a vet.
My hamster is paralyzed???help?
i thnk my hamster(about 2 years old) fell and now shes not walking right. she has been leaning on one side and one of her feet is not working. she cant balance herself anymore and keeps on falling when she tries to walk. shes really tired now and is lying down on one side, not in a right position. her eyes are closed but i cn see that her hearts still beating. shes been alive for 3 hours after the fall and she still has her senses and i fed her a sunflower seed and she ate it. she just cant walk anymore and i dont know if she broke her spine. its 10 at night here and i dont know if i cn take her to the vet right now. and if they cld do anything about this. i dont think she is going to die but is she ever going to recover? is there any thing i cn do now?? please help iv been crying and i know that doesnt help so i need anyone who has any good advice and knows how to deal with this kind of situation. :((

I got a new hamster 1 week ago and I Accidental Kinda Shut Her Foot In The Cage Door, I Dunno I Don't Think It Was That Hard Just Gently Really and she mad some squeeky pain noises, But Now All Her Toes On Her Right Are closed together but she's running around freely in her wheel, very fast. I Can't see if her toes are together when she runs but I'm worried, Is her foot broken or just slightly hurt and should I go to the vet or what? x

My sister's hamster has a broken foot,and it turned purple.what's wrong with her and how do i fix it?
Hi! I've had almost the same issue with one of my pet rats. I discovered her in her cage with a completely limp foot and a broken running wheel. When I took her into a vet - I was told to put her in a cage where she cannot climb or do any type of activity to let the foot heal. However, her foot did not turn purple so I'm assuming there may be some sort of infection, or the foot is dying because of the lack of blood supply to that area. You will definitely need to take the poor girl into the vet - she is probably in a lot of pain :-( They will more than likely girl her a pain killer called Metacam - so she can heal in comfort.
