My Head Is Really Itchy Can Anyone Offer Advice

My head is itchy. Help?

Mine isn't nearly as bad as yours, but I have an itchy scalp, especially at night. I use gentle shampoo and all of that just like you.

I actually feel less itchy when I wash it daily! The build up of natural oils can clog the pores on your head and make it itchier. Tea tree oil mixed in shampoo helps. Just a few drops (not too much), or...

Here's some essential oil recipes that work when it's really bad for me:

FORMULA #1: 2OZ OF MILD UNSCENTED PH BALANCED SHAMPOO.
10 DROPS EUCALYPTUS
MIX WELL AND WORK INTO THE SCALP FOR 7 MINUTES AND RINSE THOUROUGLY WITH WARM WATER.
THIS WILL CAUSE TINGLING OF THE SCALP. IF THE TINGLING BECOMES INTOLERABLE THAN RINSE OFF SOONER THAN 7 MINUTES.

FORMULA #2: 2OZ MILD UNSCENTED PH BALANCED SHAMPOO
10 DROPS OF PEPPERMINT
MIX WELL WORK INTO SCALP FOR 7 MINUTES RINSE WELL WITH WARM WATER.
THIS WILL CAUSE TINGLING OF THE SCALP. IF TINGLING IS INTOLERABLE YOU CAN RINSE OFF SOONER THEN 7MINUTES.

If all else fails, t wouldn't hurt to see a dermatologist.

Hope that helps!!! Feel better!

best answer? ;)

My neck, scalp, and an area between my shoulder blades(on my back), won't stop itching!!!?

I know it's not lice because the flakes don't stay on my hair...I thought maybe dandruff, so I got head and shoulders, and nothing! The itching is worse at night for some reason. I made an appointment with my doctor so hopefully he can figure something out. For right now, does anyone have any advice on what I should do? Or what this can be?

Why does my body itch more when I haven't showered in a while?

Critical t0 the health of our skin, which is a critical organ against infection, fluid loss, etc., is the oil secreted by the aptly named oil glands. This is an antibacterial substance related to lanolin that keeps the skin flexible and crack free and repels water as do the oily secretions of any mammal. This is critical because if it is washed away and this bare skin is exposed to dry air, then the skin will dry out, get scaly and crack. These cracks can lead to infections which can be dangerous or lethal, again, in any mammal.  We see that ourselves when we shower too often or use soap that is too 'harsh' or strong, that dissolves away all the oils.Consequently, as this oil builds up, it will trap small particles, grit, fibers, debris, etc which can lead to itching. Oddly enough, if the oil is washed away with too much water and/or soap exposure, one of the symptoms aside from scaling and cracking, is itching. This indicates that the middle way, as Buddhists say, is always the right way.Realize that any comments that appear on Quora from me are not intended to treat any disease, and are not given as medical advice or reference. For any issues related to physical and mental well being you must consult a physician or other health care professional face to face in your area. What can I give my dog to help him stop being itchy?

I think the biggest question would be *why* is he/she itchy?  You can't really stop it without knowing why.First advice:  If you are concerned for your dog's health, bring them to a vet.  Possible reasons for itchy skin (that you can treat at home):1)  Fleas.  Even if you can't see them.  Preventative:  Use Advantage or Frontline or any of a number of topical preventatives that kill the fleas that are there and protect them from outbreaks for between 2 and 4 weeks.  This is a good idea to do on a regular basis anyway, even if he/she doesn't actively have fleas.2)  Allergy to something in the environment.  Dogs get allergies just like humans do.  Sometimes it causes hot spots and red itchy skin.  You can use cortizone cream on any sort of red itchy skin.  If you see "hot spots" (sores due to licking or chewing the itchy skin), you really should see a vet at that point.  Regular baths (every 1-2 weeks) help this - there's special soap that has oatmeal in it for soothing the skin.  I've also read things about how fatty acid supplements (Omega-3) can help.3)  Allergy to food.  This can also cause the above itchy skin.  You can test this by (slowly) switching them to a different food brand or protein.  Generally, the higher the quality, the less likelihood of allergies (due to less filler material and the ability to switch proteins).4)  Stress.  Dogs will shake themselves off and itch to try and relieve stress.  So pay attention to when the dog is itching (or doing a full body shake).I'm sure there's more reasons, but those are the ones that come to mind first.  The above suggestions are over-the-counter ideas.  PLEASE do not substitute this for veterinary advice if the situation is worse than described above.  Also, don't do all of the above at the same time.  If you do that, you'll still have no idea why your dog is itching.  Give it a week in between new things.  Good luck!

Why does my scalp itch when I wake up, if I went to bed with my hair wet?

I would say that your normal scalp or skin moisture and hydration leached out into your hair and evaporated, like turning into a prune in the tub for too long. It, w/osmosis left you with dry skin, and could be some flakes. Creme rinse and other hydration & moisturizing helps.
