My Headset Might Be Broken. I Can Hear Skype Through Both Ears But Literally Everything Else Is

What is the most embarrassing thing you heard over the mic while gaming?

This was back during MW2, team deathmatch. There was this one kid (sounded around 12–14 yr old) who was getting his ass handed to him game after game. The whole game he was loud and obnoxious. Usual yo mama jokes, 1v1 me kid, and I’m the best (even though his kd was usually 1:3). Finally, one game the other team was able to start spawn camping (glory days of the shitty mw2 spawn system), and this kid lost it. First he started getting pissed cussing them out, then he started crying and pleading for them to stop, then he calmed down and started saying “this isn’t even fun, why would you do this, you guys aren’t even having fun. These kids are losers they suck, they can’t even play” bla bla bla. Then he went quiet for around 2 minutes, and then I guess lost it. He starts screaming/crying yelling at everyone saying he’s gonna fuck them up and find out where they live and how they’re assholes etc. Throughout the games everyone was sorta telling him to shut up, or just egging him on and saying he sucks, but everyone went quiet for this. It was a train wreck. You could hear him sobbing while insulting everyone. Then we heard a loud crashing sound and the sound of glass breaking, in game his character stopped moving. Then we hear him going oh no, oh no oh no oh no multiple times. We hear his mom come in and gasp, then start yelling at him while the kid is apologizing the whole time.Apparently, he had thrown his controller and broken the TV (which from the sounds of the mother, seems like it was pretty expensive). But it didn’t end there. The mother then calls the father into the room, and he starts going off on the kid. Then we hear the kid saying he wants to turn off his headset (he had dropped it when he broke the tv) because everyone was hearing him, but his dad just said no and took his headset. Then the kid starts crying and pleading with his dad to give it back to him. The dad I guess loses it at this point and says he’s bringing over the hammer. At this point he leaves and the kid goes out with him, the guys still online and headset is still active. All of us in game are waiting by with tension to see what happens next, and it’s pretty quiet for about a minute. Next thing we hear is the father saying he’s done and the kid just saying no please don’t, and then we hear a hammering sound and the kid goes out of the game. My assumption is, game systems destroyed.Personally, I think the whole thing was pretty depressing (although a bit hilarious).

I can play Fur Elise pretty well, what song/songs should I learn next in order to advance my piano skills? I don't have the money for private lessons.

You should be working on more than just a piece if you want to advance your skills. You should be doing scales, exercises, and a variety of pieces that will slightly challenge you. This will give you building blocks to learn faster. If you want to do scales on your own, I would suggest Phillip Johnston’s Scales Bootcamp. It will secure your skills there. Then you can download free Hanon exercises online and work through them one at a time as directed: Hanon exercisesTo improve your piano skills overall, I recommend PianoMarvel.comThis is a digital interactive program that will help you correct yourself and work without a teacher. It will always help if you take the occasional lesson with a teacher to improve what you will miss yourself and what no program can catch. But with the Piano Marvel app you will learn a LOT without a teacher. And it has thousands of pieces, many of the level of Fur Elise and above. The entire program is free for 30 days and after that it is $15/month ($12/month with the above link), which is much cheaper than a teacher! My students pay about $80-$100/ month for 30-minute weekly private lessons. And you don’t need to sign up with credit card or paypal unless you want to buy the program. I would suggest to put aside 30 days that you can work with the premium program every day, because if you still don’t decide to buy it, you will have increased your skills massively in just that month for free! Level 1, the basic program is free indefinitely. But then you don’t have access to the library, the sight reading program and the more advanced repertoire, which you will probably be into very quickly. All you need is a digital piano, a laptop or ipad (I recommend laptop!) and a midi or usb cord to connect them.If you have any questions about how this works, or if you want to book the occasional private skype lesson with me, you can contact me through my website Lorri Dunn's School of Music or my fb page Lorri Dunn's School of MusicOr feel free to find yourself a local teacher who would be willing to give the occasional lesson - maybe once every month or two (if you want to learn faster it would be well worth it)All the best!

Are the Apple AirPods worth it? I don't care for the loudness or the bass, I care about the convenience.

YES! YES, THEY ARE!!!If you’re looking for convenience then look no further. I love my Pods and carry them in my trousers “keypocket” all the time. I should just call it “podpocket” for now. They are easier to use than EarPods or anything else. No tangled wires, no missing dongles. You just pop them out of pocket, from the case and put in your ears. They are already on and they just continue playing audio from your call/music/video or whatever you were doing. Connecting to Mac is almost as easy. They are MAGICAL <3They are truly cordless - always. No in-ear headphones have ever stayed in my ears, but AirPods have taught me it was because of the cord hanging or being stuck somewhere. I can literally dance my ass off with these on.One of the easiest handsfree devices for iPhone and Mac/Skype.I’ve never ran out of battery (ok, once in my case, but I still had plenty of time on my earpieces so I just charged the case while listening music). They are so easy to charge and can last for a week. You charger the headphones almost by accident and you can use the headphones while you charge the case with your Lightning cable.I have iPhone 7 plus so less dongles for me thank you.I have no problem with the bass or sound quality. They saved me money: I was about to buy QC35 from Bose for noise cancelling, but after I got my AirPods I decided to wait until I get same connectivity features with noice cancelling.I hope this helps. I have been called apple fanboy before, but this product I can truly pledge for. I wish I could marry my AirPods.Peace <3

What are some ways one can improve focusing in an era where there is a lot of “noise” and information overload?

Hi Kevin! That’s quite true, especially in these days when we are constantly bombarded by useless and unwanted informations . Inside this tsunami of sources it becomes hard to stay focus and maintain a clear judgement on which is useful and which is not.Plus it’s easy to lose focus because distractions are more and more present: the phone, emails, Facebook, twitter, Skype, other people. But did you know that it takes a while to focus? So this is a time when you are much less productive or when you start loosing focus. And when you get cut, it’s the door open to move on to another activity. And drop the first one.So every time you get disconcerted , you make your worktime shorter. Because writing a page word is going fast, but if you receive a facebook notification every 20 seconds, the time will be multiplied by 10, or even 100.Do not juggle tasks, and cut off distractions to the maximum:– close facebook, twitter, skype and your mailbox– silence your phone– isolate yourself in a quiet room, if necessary, put music on the earsAnd if you really need to, check your emails every 3 tasks, or every hour and a half. In short, it is useless to check his emails too often. The other advantage of checking at a fixed time is to process your emails at the same time, and to group this task together. Because there is an fixed amount of time to the completion of a task. So checking 10 emails will not take us 10 times longer than checking an email. Because it takes time to connect, etc.Hope i answered your question. check theses article it might be helpful and related to the issue you are trying to solve:How to motivate yourself: 9 incredible ways - Key to ZenProcrastination: The best guide to Stop Procrastinating - Key to Zen
