Hurts to squeeze my heel?

Hello,

First of all I am sorry that you have this pain, it must be frustrating.

It is difficult to say exactly what happened to your heel. It could be anything from Plantar Fasciitis to Fat Pad Atrophy to just a bruise. In order to diagnose you better please answer these questions:

1) Which part of the heel hurts the most (heel pad/rim)?
2) How long do you have this pain?
3) Do you have high or low arches?
4) What kind of shoes you usually wear?
5) Do you see any bruising or swelling?
6) Is it more painful first thing in the morning?

Here are a few things you can do right now:

1) Ice your heel at least 4 times a day, either by applying ice directly or by rolling a frozen bottle under your heel and arch when you sit down.

2) Wrap it up with an ace bandage.

3) Elevate your foot and rest as much as you can.

Again, if you can answer my questions I would be happy to assist you further.
You can write to me directly if you prefer, my email is in my Yahoo profile or itaiw@yahoo.com

Feel Better!

Why does my heel hurt inside my cast?

That's where your achilles tendon is attached, your foot. If you have a broken leg the muscle by that gets the pain and they react by tightening up their tendons. The tendons can stay tight for a long time by themselves or you can release them and get rid of the pains now. Because it's a tight tendon icing that area is really going to cause more pain once you can feel again when it warms up rather than less pain, so the icing could have helped bring on the pain. If your leg is in a cast I don't know how high it is but I can pass along the way to normally release that tendon and you can try it as low on your leg as you can get and hope it will work and instead of holding it for 30 seconds, make it a minute. Here's how to release that tendon:
Achilles tendon:
While sitting and your leg on your lap, take both thumbs and place them side by side at about ankle height on the tendon on the back of your leg and apply pressure hard and hold. After 30 seconds slowly raise your toes up as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Why do a ton of women wear heels, when they know it hurts them so much?

It is no secret that heels accentuate your legs as well as make you taller so it is much easier to kiss your partner. Heels are eye catching and to many men a leg in high heels is “eye candy”. Watch an episode of the Bachelor. No contestant on the show wears flats when in a dress or dressy outfit. Heels are sexy and they are using eye candy sex appeal to catch their man.Granted, there is a price to be paid for wearing heels. I have encountered my share of uncomfortable high heels. What I have learned is comfortable/uncomfortable is largely due to the balance of a shoe, which primarily addresses arch support and how the shoe distributes your weight from heel to toe. I have found some extremely uncomfortable high heels that were impossible to walk in. Today, I shop my shoes, looking for fit and balance, as well as foot appeal. It does not matter how sexy a heel is if you cannot properly walk in them and wear them all evening.I will admit, that I have dropped my heel height for daily wear heels to 2 1/2 inches. Enough lift to curve my leg just right, but extremely easy to wear all day long. I have very pretty heels in this shorter height.I save the skyscrapers for special occasions and bedroom romance.I do everything, but run in heels. Work, walk across town, drive, go to church, walk up and down stairs, attend museum functions and such comfortably in heels. I had to go through a learning curve, giving up sexy for function, but with a little recalibrating my brain about what matters, I am doing just fine in my mid-heel pumps and sandals.

How does one treat a HEEL-SPUR ?

What is the treatment of a heel spur?
Treatment of heel spurs is the same as treatment of plantar fasciitis. Because these problems are related, the treatment is the same. The first step in the treatment of a heel spur is with short-term rest and controlling the inflammation. Here are the steps patients should take in order to cure their plantar fasciitis and heel spurs:

Rest
Avoiding the precipitating activity; for example, take a few day off jogging or prolonged standing/walking. Just resting usually helps to eliminate the most severe pain, and will allow the inflammation to begin to cool down.

Apply Ice Packs
Icing will help to diminish some of the symptoms and control the heel pain. Icing is especially helpful after an acute exacerbation of symptoms.

Exercises and Stretches
Exercises and stretches are designed to relax the tissues that surround the heel bone. Some simple exercises, performed in the morning and evening, often help patients feel better quickly.

Anti-Inflammatory Medications
Anti-inflammatory medications help to both control pain and decrease inflammation. Over-the-counter medications are usually sufficient, but prescription options are also available.

Shoe Inserts
Shoe inserts are often the key to successful treatment of plantar fasciitis. The shoe inserts often permit patients to continue their routine activities without pain.

Night Splints
Night splints are worn to keep the heel stretched out when you sleep. By doing so, the arch of the foot does not become contracted at night, and is hopefully not as painful in the morning.

These modalities alone will cure the plantar fasciitis pain in most patients. Be forewarned that the symptoms will not resolve quickly. Most patients find relief within about three months, and over 90% within one year.

If the pain does not resolve, an injection of cortisone can decrease the inflammation of plantar fasciitis. However, many physicians do not like to inject cortisone because there are potentially serious problems with cortisone injections in the heel area. The two problems that cause concern are fat pad atrophy and plantar fascial rupture. Both of these problems occur in a very small percentage of patients, but they can cause a worsening of heel pain symptoms.

How to heal heel pain?

The day before yesterday i stood up from the chair and i could barely step with my right foot.. I felt a horrible pain beneath the foot : http://www.northcoastfootcareblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/plantar-fascia-tearing1.jpg. I surfed the Internet and heard about plantar fasciitis.I'm not sure if that's my problem, because when i wake up in the morning the pain is the same as the previous day. I'm a basketball player and i gave myself rest for 2 days and it seems the pain has cooled down.. There are 3 days left for the trainings to start and i must go in order to keep up with the others.. So my question is.. should i put ice on the place and do some treatments for faster treatment? Can you suggest me some?
And by the way, a week ago i started a jumping program, though i jumped with inappropriate shoes.Could this be the reason for this killing pain?
