My Jacket Wallet And Other Items Were Stolen From A Club

Have you lost your purse or wallet and gotten it back?

At Heathrow Airport I left this purse hanging from a hook on the back of the bathroom stall door.Inside this purse: everything. Wallet, I.D., credit cards, cash, passports, phone, blackberry, boarding pass, a notebook, my Kindle and my planner.I walked out of the stall, washed my hands and waltzed out of the bathroom unburdened, with a spring in my step.About 3 minutes later I froze. My bag was not on my shoulder.I felt panic, complete with a racing heart and sweat trickling down my stomach. I ran back to the bathroom practically incoherent and banged on the door of the stall I had used. I stammered, yelling through the paneling. The woman who an eternity later (less than 30 seconds) came out tried to calm me but I didn't have time to be calmed. Another woman in the bathroom explained she had found the purse and  handed it to an officer. I had visions of the bag being destroyed (because that's what they say they will do if they find a bag "unaccompanied".)I ran. I found a uniformed man and babbled. He frowned and escorted me to a room. The room was full of abandoned bags and suitcases. There was mine, crouching in a corner, cold and alone in a world it didn't understand.  (OK. It's inert. But stay with me.) I pointed to it with a trembling finger. The officer grabbed it and put it in my hands. He asked me to list what was inside. I did. He handed it over."OH MY GOD" I said, exultant, shaky, grateful, relieved. "I could kiss you right now"."Please don't" he replied.

When should you not file a police report for a stolen item under X amount of dollars, especially if you don't know who stole it, and the dollar amount is not large?

To be as honest as I can be. It depends on what was stolen and where from. House, car that has been broken into. Report it. You would be surprised at the number of finger prints can be retrieved. But if it’s a bag in your car and you left the door unlocked or your a JC pennies and you leave you purse on the counter and when you turn around your purse with your cash in it was stolen. As long as it’s not $5000 and more like $60. Then don’t bother. You have to look at the totality of the circumstances. There will be no prints. Your purse will be taken and tossed some distance away with the cash and any other valuables gone. Cash is not traceable. If they get your DL, social security card , and debit cards by all means report it. If you have a gun taken from under the seat of your car. Report it and by all means you should know the make, model, caliber, and serial number of your weapon. But if you have a package that does not need to be signed for stolen off your front porch. You might a well mark it up as a loss. It will never be seen again. And the company you ordered it from will be no help whatsoever . Mark it up as a loss and figure out a better way for delivery of packages. So to recap. Report it is there is any chance that there might be evidence. But if you lay your sell phone on the counter at wal-mart and then look away for your kids. And when you turn around your phone is gone then there is very little chance of you getting it back so really there is no need to report it.

What would be the total cost in dollars if you add the value of the clothes you are wearing and all the objects that you carry in your pockets?

Interesting question. I'm dressed for work at the office today, so it's fairly casual business attire.  Here goes (starting from the bottom up): CLOTHESSocks - women's trouser socks bought at Costco, I think they were something like $10 for 3 pairs, so let's say  - $3.50.Pants - grey wool slacks bought online from Banana Republic. Ok, these are a little spendy (well, at least for me they are), but because I have a 36-inch inseam and it's hard to find women's pants that are long enough, I'll pay just about anything for a well fitting pair - $98.00Underwear/Bra - ok, no judgment, I like nice underwear. If the bra and panties match, it makes me feel like I've actually got my shit together, go figure - $150Shirt - black scoop-neck knit sweater, I'm pretty sure I got it online at Anne Klein on clearance - $20Sub Total: $271.50ACCESSORIESShoes - bought heeled ankle boots off Amazon, on sale - $65.00Necklace - simple gold chain with my mother's gold wedding band at the end. I've worn it almost everyday since my Dad gave it to me after Mom died. The value is priceless, the cost is an estimate - $150.00Earrings - simple gold loops that my husband gave me when we were dating. I have no idea how much they were. I'll take a guess - $50.00Ring - my gold wedding band - $200.00Hair pins - the hair's in a twist today, so there's about 15 bobby pins in my head - $1.00Purse - birthday present from my husband, a leather Hobo Bag. I only know how much it cost because I do the bill paying at our house and he accidently charged it on our joint Visa instead of his personal/bank Visa - $400.00 (Way, WAY too expensive and while I do love it, I asked him to never spend that much money on a present for me ever again.)Sub Total: $866.00POCKETSCell Phone - a used/refurbished Galaxy S4 - $100Cash - for when I walk over to the cute little café across the street from my office and get a coffee later - $10Sub Total: $110Grand Total: $1247.50 (Holy crap, I wouldn't have thought it'd be that much!)I'm just realizing that the question didn't really say anything about jewelry, or purses, just clothes/shoes/pockets. So, if that's the case and I take the jewelry and the purse out, we're looking at:Grand Total: $446.50 (Whew, that's a little better.)

What would you do if you witnessed a person picking the pocket or purse of someone?

In the 80s, while on the subway, I saw a man picking a woman’s purse. He literally had his hand on her wallet and was lifting it when I called out:“Lady! with the yellow coat and big bag! Watch it, you’re being robbed!”The woman turned around, slapped the man away, turned to me, and thanked me.The man turned on me and started screaming, as if I’d done something wrong, and it was pretty terrifying. Fortunately, it was a rush hour train, and he was quickly surrounded and escorted off at the next stop.I would call out a thief again, but would be looking for my exit strategy, just in case.

How to avoid pickpockets in Spain?

Tomorrow I am leaving on a flight to Europe. I am going to be spending most of my time in Madrid and Barcelona. I am really nervous because a lot of my friends have told me not to where anything expensive or flashy because it is guaranteed to get stolen. The problem is I am going there to party and I am mainly going to be at Night Clubs so I am going to have my IPhone, Wallet, Keys, and my Rolex watch. I am really scared because I don't want to get pick pocketed. So does anyone have any tips on how to avoid these things from happening. P.S I am a guy so carrying a purse will not happen. Thank You and Please Help!
