What is the significance in India of hanging lemon and chili tied to a thread outside of one's house?

Despite all the scientific progress our society has made, we instinctively follow some superstitions. Is there anything wrong with the seemingly harmless superstitions? Archita Wagle reportsYou could be walking and suddenly see a lemon and some green chillies tied to a string lying on the road. Your first instinct is to avoid it. You may not even stop to think why you are avoiding it. You just do. If you take a moment to consider what you believe is just an old wives tale or superstition that lime and chillies lying on the road have been used to ward off bad luck.Such superstitious beliefs have been with us as long as we can remember. We may have never questioned their origins or verified how real they are. We just accepted them as something we follow. And this belief in touching wood and applying a black dot to ward off the eagle eye has not decreased no matter how much we have progressed scientifically. This attitude needs to be changed according to Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS). Set up in 1989 and having 180 branches all over India, MANS is dedicated to eradicating superstitions from our lives. But what is the harm in following silly old superstitions that harm nobody? As Vandana Pai, a working mother of two says, “I believe that there is God and I follow all the rituals which have been taught to me. I have come to no harm following these superstitions like stepping over a lemon, but I don’t believe in black magic”.“The idea that there is no harm in following some superstition as long as it is not harmful is what is worrying,” says Narendra Dabholkar, executive president, MANS.But can we discount faith and its powers.“Faith does play an important part as it gives people the strength to go ahead, but it is important to take care that the person doesn’t bank on that faith alone,” says clinical psychologist Samindara Sawant. Sawant also says that the person should be made to realise that while faith may play a role, it is the person who ultimately has the power to change his life.Man is a thinking animal who can rationalise his actions and beliefs. Over the years we have also devised scientific explanations for most of the things like the movement of the sun and stars we thought were miracles of God. After such progress, beliefs in superstitions pull a man back to where he started from.Source Video: http://bit.ly/2uLHMIC - नींबू मिर्ची का टोटका और विज्ञान | Science Behind Nimbu Mirchi Totka - YouTube

What are your innovative hacks of making maggi noodles tastier?

I am not a very good cook but yes, my Maggi is famous overseas, across the borders and above the skies, Did I just say that out loud?First of all let me make it very clear that Maggi can never be prepared it two minutes, it is just a promotional trap in which the people fall into.Coming to making the noodles tasty, My secret ingredients are the following -Haldi (turmeric)Salt (namak)Laal mirch (red chilly powder)Amul butterYes, the above mentioned things can turn your Maggi from an ordinary noodles to the ones which are served to Queen Elizabeth. Are you kiddin me, huhh?Another most important hack is the timing. Yes, I have seen most of the people don't do it correct which results in the formation of solid “masala” mass that decreases the taste and makes it look third class as being served to the prisoners. That was just a dialog kid! Here is the correct procedure :Take out the contents of the packet in a large plate.Take the masala packet first and pour it into the pan along with water and stir it properly. Now hand some turmeric , salt and red chill powder to the mixture and stir gently until it becomes homogeneous. (be careful with the chilly powder, if you add too much, it will burn twice, once at the time of eating and second in the morning)Now add noodles to the solution. (the masala mass will not be formed now)Keep stirring gently until all the water is soaked and noodles swell up to a good size but don't over do it.Now, just before turning the burner off, add our chemical X and that would be Amul butter in this case.Take the contents in a bowl and smell it. See the tasty fumes rising above and don't make that face.Take the spoon and attack Sparta!Go, Go Go! Roger that!Meri Maggi is ready, Thank me later!image source - Google-simplYusuf

I am aware of the billions of recipes online, but I want this particular one and even tried to get an employee to share their recipe w/ me yesterday. He said that he got into trouble the last time he shared Whole Food's recipes with a customer.

Any ex-employees out there happen to know where I can find this plate of deliciousness?? Pretty please???

The combo of chicken curry & rice is my definition of comfort food. Though there are countless recipes of chicken curries in India, I prefer to have chicken curry either prepared by my mom or myself. How can I lose weight by eating healthy but not doing any exercise?

Reduce your consumption of calories and increase the overall quality of the food you eat by:Eating colorful steamed or roasted starchy vegetables instead of bread, rice and potatoes.Enjoy a big salad dressed simply with olive oil and vinegar or a low-sodium clear (not creamed) vegetable soup before lunch and dinner. Make your own soup. It will taste better, be more nourishing and be cheaper than buying cans or boxes.Choose two days each week in which you will not eat any animal foods, including butter, cheese and eggs. Plan ahead and soak legumes, so you can cook them in a reasonable time. Make sure to include avocados and nuts in your meals on the meatless days to replace the (high cholesterol, highly saturated) animal fats with healthy sources of fat.Learn to enjoy sardines and other small oily fish a couple times per week. Or buy Alaskan canned salmon and use it in place of canned tuna in almost any recipe. It is always wild caught salmon because Alaska does not permit fish farming. Salmon is another great source of Omega-3 oils. They are both a super source of EPA & DHA fatty acids that help your heart and brain.Take a 10–15 minutes walk after each meal to help your food digest.
