My Kitten Likes To Play With My Feet And Hands.

How can you stop your kitten from biting my hands?

I’ve always found that drawing your hand away quickly and saying “no” firmly was enough. Just as with human children, you have to be patient and consistent, or it will never learn boundaries. When kittens are teething, they get kind of bitey, just like a puppy, so soft fabric toys that they can gnash their teeth into are good. If your kitten gets bitey when you are trying to pet it, and wants to play instead of just being calm, distract it with a toy. Make sure to say “no” and withdraw if it bites.Sometimes though, a kitten is just too full of energy and mischief to want to snuggle and be petted, so you make as well give up, let the squirmy kitten go, and play with it using a wand toy or laser. Wait until it gets too tired, then it will happily curl up with you and accept your pets without going all warrior on you.Kittens are also aggressive, and play using all armaments. They will want to wrestle with your hands as if they were another kitten. Kick toys help get that aggression out by letting them engage both claws and teeth in their epic struggles to play at being grown up cats.

Is my kitten too feisty? Is this normal?

She's just playing! Kittens love to play! My little kitten Lyla would attack everything she saw when she was four months old, its very common.

Don't worry about her attacking you so much, just get her to play with things like a shoelace or kitty toy, so she doesn't grow accustomed to biting humans when she feels like playing in the future. Don't worry about her getting angry when you try and pet her, being a playful cat is much different from being a hostile cat, and if she still acts hostile it probably just means she doesn't like to be picked up.

My kitten always wants to "attack" my hand. Is that normal?

Hi there,

This is very normal behavior for a kitten, and should be discouraged. When your kitten "attacks" your hand, put him on the floor and redirect his "prey" instinct with a toy. Do not yell at him, or punish him.

Your vet can teach you how to trim your kitten's nails. It is very easy to do, and once your kitten gets used to it he will be cooperative. I clip our cats' nails every two weeks and they get a treat afterwards, so they are not at all concerned when they see the clipper.

Kittens are very inquisitive and playful. You need to be very careful not to tempt him with hands or finger. I am sure he won't jump on your face. There is nothing really moving there, so it is not that tempting to them.

All he wants to do is play, so use interactive toys and when he tries to play with your hands or feet, toss a real toy to him to redirect his play.

Please do not declaw your kitten. Here is an article about the surgery and all that it entails. The surgery is banned in 25 countries around the world, as it is considered cruelty to animals.

How do I train my cat to not maul my hands with his claws and teeth?

I took care of a friend's cat who had this problem.  She attacked out of the blue whenever she wanted to play.  It took me a couple of weeks to break her of the habit and she took her new skills back to owner who really appreciated it. It seems she wanted to be friendly but no one had ever taken the time to teach her how to play with humans. Don't let your cat play with your hands or any body part.  Ever!  Always use toys.  If you let the cat hunt your hand the cat will go for the kill and it is your fault for encouraging this.  If your cat grabs your hand and bites you, scream "OUCH" as if it really hurts.  Cats understand the concept of "cry uncle".   But don't pull your hand away, as far as cats are concerned if you pull  away you are responsible for any scratches you get.   Unless the cat is  growling or hissing it has no intention of hurting you and just wants  to play. When cats play they make no noise.  If one of them does  make a noise the other stops immediately.  When they are really  fighting they make a lot of noise before they even attack.  If you act  as if the cat is hurting you whenever they use their claws or teeth on  you you will teach them that humans are very delicate and can't take any  pain at all. Which is what you really want to teach them. When your cat is feeling playful get out the toys and get him to hunt that.   The best way to change a behavior is to give him something else to do instead.Play with him using toys for half an hour before feeding him.  Cats are used to hunting before eating. Cats  are crepuscular which means they are most active at dawn and dusk.  These are good times to play with them so they don't come looking for a  playmate when you are trying to do something else. Cats sleep a lot so  if you can wear them out when they are inclined to be most active you  will head off a lot of potential problems. Watch My Cat From Hell on Animal Planet  with Jackson Galaxy.  He is amazing and will teach you a lot about how to get along with your cat.

Why does my kitten attack me and bite me like he hates me or is angry?

I would think that he is just playing / play hunting. Kittens just love to play and will chase anything that interests them even if its your hands, toes, feet. I have been at the receiving end of many kitten attacks. Sometimes it seems as though they are angry as they grab you and start kicking with their back feet but its not anger, its excitement and their way of both subduing their prey and fighting. Just remember that this is all instinctive behavior and not deliberately aimed at attacking you. How do you react when it happens? Do you shout and smack or do you calmly remove yourself? The best option is to remove yourself calmly. Any threatening or aggressive behavior on your part is likely to result in a poor relationship with your cat. Encouraging them to chase fingers, toes, feet and hands will also give them the message that its okay to do it. Eventually they do learn that its not appropriate as they would with their siblings if still with their littermates. You could try a sharp ouch or squeal, as though you were one of their siblings play fighting and see if it helps too.

My persian kitten is on drugs.?

Its been taken off her mother early and it's doing some crazy stuff right now...
-Her full attention is focused on following feet and hands. it likes to grab my hand or foot with her paws and lick it and bite on it (but it doesnt bite hard thus i just let her do it). Whenever someones walking zooooom she runs after him . When im on my PC for example and my feet are on the ground she starts ducking and hiding behind things and slowly approaching my foot and jumping on it. Is that usual kitten behaviour? If it , how old are kittens when they start doing this?
-Is it safe to feed kittens dry food? Is there an age limit?

What to do with a misbehaving kitten?

my fiance and I adopted a tiny kitten about 2 months ago. At first he was very playful and energetic. Now he seems out of control. He bites and claws our hands and feet, attacks our faces and insists on chewing on my laptop. He won't stay out of the sink and jumps onto the stove while I'm trying to cook. He's broken two vases and knocked over a plant. He also tore up the blinds in our apartment. We've tried the squirt bottle, telling him no, giving him other toys to play with and spanking. Everything we do seems pointless. Nothing is working. I know kittens will be kittens but all this destructive behavior has to stop before he ruins our apartment. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
