My Laptop Charges On And Off

Do laptops charge faster when they are off?

You really have to try it out and time your own laptop to know, but it is pretty safe to say that they do charge at least a little bit faster.

Many things effect the charging speed. Your hardware configuration: If you laptop is really powerful it will be slower to charge. Also how the power is designed in that laptop, whether or not it can take in a lot of power to keep the computer going and the battery charging, or if it uses most of it for keeping the computer on and only has a little left over for charging. But it's really up to your model, there isn't a blanket number or anything that can be applied.

How does a laptop charge faster... when its on or off?

It will charge "a little" faster when the laptop is turned off.

If battery life is becoming an issue for you, consider getting a travel pack or extra capacity battery for your laptop. Visit the manufacturer's site for info, and you will likely find the best prices on eBay.

Laptop charger turns off as soon as I plug it in to the laptop. It's not the charger that's the problem. Could it be a bad motherboard?

What you describe could be a few different things. You could have a bad battery pack with one or more bad cells. When the battery is connected AND you power the laptop, it draws too much juice and the charger dies. You tested a different battery, so it is unlikely that this is YOUR issue. You could have a bad power adapter, even though you think you don’t. It might not be putting out the amperage (or even the proper voltage) it did… instead of pumping out 90 watts, it might only put out 45 now. Without the battery, the laptop might only draw what the adapter is putting out, but when you add the battery, the draw increases and shuts down the faulty power adapter. You could have a bad motherboard. How do you test?Go to a Staples or Best Buy. Chances are, you can get them to try one of their Universal power adapters right there on the bench for you (in anticipation of selling it). You can ask. Say… I think I need a new one, can we see if it works? And they will take it out of the packaging… or use a bench unit.Now. You’ll get to see what happens when your laptop is used, with the battery in it, with a different adapter. If everything is cool… buy the adapter. If not… well, then it probably is a motherboard issue.

Can someone help me with my laptop charger?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with a Dell charger. Last weekend the charger just cut off on me, I plugged it out and put it under the AC assuming that it was overheated it took 30 mins to come back on and start charging. On Thursday it cut on me again but this time it took 2 to 3 hours to start back working. Now it's cut again since last night now it's not even coming on now. My brother has the same charger, and I plugged out the cable that goes into the outlet and changed it with his and vice versa; and it works with his and not mines. I was wondering can someone tell me how to fix this problem? And get my charger working? Is it a shortage? Please help me. I'm sure if I leave a lil more longer it will start charging again....?????

Why my laptop battery charging on/off?

My first thought was to ask whether you are using a charger designed for your computer. If the charger cannot supply adequate current to run the computer and charge the battery at the same time, you might see something like your problem.Second, you might look at this Sony battery troubleshooting guide, including the part about the battery reset:VAIO notebook computer battery troubleshooting guidelineIf you are using an aftermarket battery, there could be compatibility problems. Finally, if you have not done so, run Windows Update, and check with the manufacturer to see if there are any software updates to the device drivers for your computer. There have been some charging bugs in some versions of Windows.
