My Laptops Dvd Drive Doesnt Work

What should I do if my laptop's DVD drive is not working?

Try re-installing the device driver for your DVD drive. A device driver is a program that operates and controls devices on your computer. They might be provided in a Disk you got from the retailer, but since the DVD drive itself is not working, you can download the drivers from the company's website(toshiba, etc). Hope this helps

How can I insert my DVD in a laptop if it doesn't have any optical drive?

You mean to say you don’t have any DVD drive and still you want to insert DVD into it.It’s not possible until you connect a USB DVD drive (External Drive). If you have a ISO image file you can mount this image file, using some software.Windows 10 support directly to mount the ISO image.Hope it helps.

How do I install PC games when my laptop doesnt have a DVD drive?

The selection of games on Steam is limited, although large. So downloading from there is definitely not the whole answer. If you really need to use a disc, there is something else you can try, which may not work due to protection, but is worth a try and doesn’t cost money. However, you need at least one-time access to a PC with a drive. Download a virtual drive + disc cloning software. If you are not allowed to install SW on the PC with a drive, try getting a portable version of a virtual disc program, then put it on a flash drive. Now, insert the DVD and make a virtual copy of it. If you don’t know which file type you should choose, go with .iso, that’s the most common one. Then, transfer that file to your computer, install whichever virtual drive SW you deem the best, set up a virtual drive, mount the image (the .iso). You can install the game now. Some games may still require you to have the DVD in a physical drive due to anti-piracy protection. This should be easy to work around, though. In most countries, it is completely legal to download and install a no-dvd crack if you own the copy of the game. You wouldn’t be eligible for official support since you’ve modified the installation, but if you reinstall, you get that back. See, piracy is not the only possible use of a virtual drive SW, nor is any disc image you may obtain neccessarily a pirated version of the game.If the game demands that you insert the disc into a physical drive and you can’t find a crack, this method won’t work. You could still install the game, which was the problem, but not play it, making the installation useless.

HP laptop CD/DVD drive problem.?

I dont use my CD/DVD drive on my HP laptop that often and now my drive doesnt seem to be working. A few weeks ago it was fine. My dell inspiron 1525 laptop's cd/dvd rom drive came out. it works when put back in but it doesnt show up in..?

Playing medieval 2 total war is not an emergency. Anyway,

First try
Take the power supply adapter cord out of the laptop. Remove the battery.
Make sure the screw that hold the CD ROM in is removed.
Push the CD ROM in place and reinstall the screw.
Let it sit for about an hour with no power.
Replace the battery and power cord
Test it out.

Second try
Take the power supply adapter cord out of the laptop. Remove the battery.
Remove the CMOS battery
Let it sit for about an hour with no power.
Replace the battery and power cord
Test it out.

Still no luck?

See if it shows up in the BIOS.

No? You either destroyed the CD ROM or damaged the system board.

I was going to send you more information on troubleshooting, but you don't allow e-mail.

What's wrong with my CD/DVD drive on my laptop?

okay, I have a Toshiba Qosmio and my DVD drive just all of the sudden stopped working. I went to My Computer->right click to Manage->Device Manager->DVD/CD Rom Drives and right under it is my drive called "Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-840S."
There is a yellow triangle and an exclamation point beside it....I right clicked on it and selected Properties and this is what it says::
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19).

so what do I do?? I don't remember where I put the start up disc when I got my computer :( so now what??

thanks,
michelle

Why isn't the DVD drive of my laptop reading any CDs?

This could be caused by a bad driver install. Even though the device registers as operational, that doesn’t mean that the motor to spin the DVD or the laser isn’t malfunctioning.First I would go to Device manager and uninstall the DVD drive. (Right click the device and click uninstall device) Then once that is done I would hit the scan for Hardware changes button to reinstall the DVD drive. Afterwards reboot. If the above doesn’t fix it you are likely in need of a replacement.

Why won't my laptop dvd player work?

Sounds like the laser has fried, try this...

Turn off PC/laptop.
Disconnect CD/DVD drive*, turn PC/laptop on, allow to boot fully, then turn off again.
Re-connect CD/DVD drive and turn on.
Windows will re-build the drivers or start the 'Found new hardware wizard'.

If that doesn't work, log on as an Administrator....

***Always back up the registry before making changes (make a Restore Point)***

XP

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

Vista/Windows 7

Click Start, and then click All Programs.
Click Accessories, and then click Run.
Type regedit, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet
\Control\Class\
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Ensure that the right pane has CD/DVD Drive in it.

In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, see 'Note'.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

'Note'
In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.
If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, this can't help you any further.

*Most laptops will have either a sliding switch or 1-2 screws holding the drive in. Sliding the switch or removing these screw/s will enable the drive to be pulled from the machine.

If none of this works, time for a new drive!
