My Little House Dog Chews On Her Feet What Can I Do

Dog biting her feet?

Ahhh many times this is an allergic reaction to chemicals in the area. You would be surprised how many chemicals our dogs are exposed to that affect their health.

Do you clean your carpets with chemicals How about what your tile floors are washed with. There are pesticides, and if you walk your dog where they are on the asphalt at all when it is warm enough that chemical which is frequently a carcingen (can produce cancer) will get on the bottom of their feet..

Check also with shampoos and tick/flea chemicals you may be using with your dog. If there is any perscription medicine, is itching a side effect?
Good luck!

Why does my dog lick her feet?

I have a Golden Retriever who used to lick her feet constantly, sometimes chew her pads bloody.

It's a sign of a skin allergy. Check her food, make sure there are no by products or corn. Also ensure there is no wheat. Wheat is teh #1 culprit for skin allergies.

There is also a shampoo you can purchase when you HAVE to bathe her (because bathing strips them of their natural oils so bathe her only when necessary) called Tegrin. It's normal dandruff shampoo you find in the grocery store. Do not get head and shoulders - it's not the same.

When you switch her food and use the shampoo and she STILL chews her feet - before you resort to steroids (prednesone etc) make sure there isn't some house hold cause. Detergents, carpet deoderizers, floor cleanser, febreeze, etc, or something that may be irritating her outside.

Summer (my Golden) really got bad when the season changed - so the fluctuation of weather could have a lot to do with it also.

If it gets really bad and she starts getting hot spots, purchase some A&D ointment. (Located in the baby section of your grocery store), and some bitter apple spray to prevent her from licking off the ointment. If she licks through the spray consider getting the head cone thing.

Good Luck

My dog tries to bite my feet!?

she is just playing your dog feeds off of your body energy with this said the best thing to do to stop this is everytime she does this then you should tell her no in a very stern voice and also pop her on the nose!!!! NOT A HARD POP JUST A LITTLE POP!!!! this should correct the problem!!!!

What could cause my dog to bite his paws?

I agree with all of the other answers regarding itchiness and/or injury/scratches but it could also have another reason. Some breeds (and some individuals) are also prone to anxiety, just like humans. My dog has some cattle-dog in her mix (her mother was a purebred Australian Cattle Dog) and when she starts to feel like things are just too much to tolerate she starts chewing on her toe nails, only her left front paw though. I spoke with the vet about it and the mother of my dog also goes to the same vet and the mother has the exact same nervous reaction. When she starts chewing her nails we usually end up sitting on the floor trying to figure out what triggered her anxiety otherwise she will keep biting until she starts bleeding. It is usually silly things that set her off, just like it can be in humans, one time we had 3 air-ambulance helicopters fly overhead (we live on a direct path between the airport and the hospital where patients get air-lifted to) pretty much one after the other and that was enough to freak her out.Yes, our dog bites her nails just like a human does, and since I do the same thing I can’t even scold too much…

How do i stop my dog from chewing/licking her paws?

Did they say it was an allergy, lick granuloma, what meds did she have?

Since you were already at the vet that knows what is going on I would suggest a quick phone call for another presciption and more advice.

My dog won't stop chewing her butt?

Ok, it sounds like there are a few options:

- fleas
- worms
- blocked anal glands
- boredom

If she was my dog first I would check her for fleas (have her stand on a white surface such as tiles or paper and comb with a fine flea comb, if you find dark crumbles she has fleas). They need to be treated, 1 single flea can drive a sensitive dog insane.

If no fleas, then I would worm her. A natural and very safe wormer is food grade diatomaceous earth, I will attach a link with more information further down.

Once fleas and worms are excluded I would check her anal glands. Honestly - you don't want to do this yourself, it is really very disgusting. Have the vet express them.

If it is boredom you know what to do, she might have gotten in a bad habit and just lick, because there is nothing else to do. Do you try to make her stop licking? At least she is getting what she was hoping to get - your attention!
So give her the attention she deserves (I know, not easy with 2 babies) and hopefully that is all that is needed.

I adopted a dog who was left on her own all the time and she had the bad habit of licking her butt - and then come for kisses... Now with me she gets attention, playtime, time for walks and a doggie friend and she completely forgets to lick her butt.

Why does my dog chew on his paws?

Could be a number of reasons;

Firstly, is he getting walked? I had a dog who used to lick her paws when she got restless or if she'd been kenneled.
Secondly, if he is being walked he may have a cut on his paw. Little pups have very sensitive paws... If this is the case give it a good wash and just try keep him away from it. bandage him up with a bandage you'd use on a sprained ankle or similar (the actual name escapes me right now! sorry!!)

He also could have a skin condition similar to dermatitis... a quick stop off to the vet to get some medicated shampoo should solve that (usually they'll sell it over the counter - you don't have to go in to see the Vet and pay that gross fee) if that doesn't work then take your ickle pooch to see the doc.

best thing to do first though is to get in there and have a nose... I found chewing gum stuck to my little womans paw once upon a time so you never know!

Why does my Bichon chew on his paws?

In my experience, there are 2 primary causes of itching: fleas or allergiesIf you find a single flea on your dog, she needs to be given a flea bath immediately (to kill all of the existing fleas). Clean the areas of your house that she hangs out in really well, and try to find a good flea medication to get her on regularly. If there aren't any fleas, she probably has some allergies. It's allergy season, so I've seen a lot of very itchy dogs. I would first call your vet for their recommendations, but you can give her a little bit of Benadryl (maybe half of a pill for her size) or take her to a self-serve dog washing station and bathe her in an oatmeal shampoo or a skin soothing shampoo.Hope this helps!

What should I do if my dog chewed a popcicle stick?

If I accidentally leave a Popsicle stick laying around one of my dogs will always find it and chew it up into little bits. I try not to, as I am concerned he will ingest small bits of sharp wood. But so far, he's been fine and I'm pretty sure he spits them all out on my sofa. I would suggest trying not to let your dig chew them, but we all make an occasional mistake. He'll most likely be fine.

Why does my dog lie under my computer desk by my feet?

If she's not bugging you for attention or acting like she's uncomfortable or unhappy (like from a tumor thats making her not feel well), then I suspect that she's just figured out that the computer desk is where you spend a lot of time, and so she's spending her time with you at the desk too.Our pitbull normally tends to lounge in her crate when my wife is awake and we’re all doing things around the house, but if I'm the only person at home, or my wife has gone to bed for the night, then it's a reasonable bet that I'll be at my computer, and she will cruise up to my office and settle down in the dog bed that is behind my office chair. She doesn't bug me for scrubs or beg for treats, she just wants to be with her people, and I'm her people. :-)If your dog wants to hang out with you, that's a good thing - she trusts you and is wanting to snooze while you keep her safe. If she's sleeping on your feet or getting in the way, get her a doggie bed that you can keep near the desk - it's a reasonable bet that she'll use it instead of sleeping on the bare floor, and as long as you're close by she will probably be just as happy as she is sleeping at your feet. If she doesn't get the point of the new bed right away, put it where she likes to be under the desk, let her use it in that spot for a week or so, and then start moving it a little bit at a time over a few days, over to where you want it - she'll follow the bed and you’ll get the space under your desk back.
