My jaw comes unhinged help?

It could mean that you are grinding your teeth in your sleep, putting a lot of stress on the temporomandibular joint. Also, maybe you have other stress causing you to tense your jaw a lot?
Another cause could be inflammation in your body due to food allergies.

In event the condition is called TMJ disorder.

Oh, one more thing. I used to have the same problem because I chewed gum all the time.
Once I stopped chewing gum, the problem went away.
I think the constant chewing can aggravate the problem.

Jaw/Chin pain, lower left side, help!?

I have had on and off jaw pain for the last year but now it has been more frequent (5 days straight) and I will have a dull ache/quick pain in the lower left part of my jaw almost my chin area. Is this something that could be heart related? I did sneeze which caused it to flair up but then went away quickly. I don t think it is a cavity as my teeth don t hurt but I don t know what else it could be?

Lower jaw bigger then upper jaw?

If your lower jaw is bigger than your upper jaw you most likely have a jaw deformity.
This problem can NOT be treated with braces because it is dealing with the actual bones and not just the teeth.
You may need a surgery called Orthognathic surgery, which corrects upper and lower jaw deformities such as if you have a larger upper or lower jaw.
If it is getting to the point to where the joints of your jaw are hurting, it is painful to chew, or you find it hard to open or close your mouth, you definitely need to see a facial and oral surgeon right away.. and note this does not mean right when you go in they will perform the surgery. It takes almost a year for to attain the exact measurements, do x-rays, and get your teeth into the correct position for surgery preparation which does require braces, even if you've already worn them.
But do get this process started as it takes a long time for it to pend.
If you do decide to get the surgery, insurance will mostly likely not cover it and say it is cosmetic rather than medical, and this surgery is quite expensive starting at $15,000 (in Texas.) So perhaps visit a medical emergency room and tell them you are having jaw pains, that way it is on record that it is causing you problems and you can submit that claim to your insurance company.

You did not cause this, it is just the way your bones are.. I know this by experience and am still waiting to have my surgery to correct it. I wish you luck!

Also try looking up on google or some other database: Orthognathic surgery for more information.

I think I’m qualified to answer this becauseI’m a dentist.I was an ideal candidate for a Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy for mandibular advancement.(I didn’t go through with it because of financial constraints).I have to ask. Why do you want to get jaw surgery done?Did your orthodontist say that you really need it? If so, whats the severity of your malocclusion? Are there any conservative treatment modality that is a less than ideal alternative to jaw surgery.Does your lower jaw protrude past your upper jaw (Angle’s class 3, skeletal)? Or does your lower jaw look like its smaller compared to your face(Angle’s class 2 ,skeletal)?Jaw surgery in indicated when there is an excess or deficient growth in one or both of the jaw in an adult. When is it required? If there is a skeletal discrepancy and just braces wont correct your bite perfectly. Both the teeth and the jaw need to be corrected and hence, surgery is ideal.Your face would look better with the surgery that with just braces.Often like with severe skeletal class 3, surgery is the only and ideal treatment option for under bite correction and would provide an ideal bite and restore proper functionSurgery may also be indicated for treatment of Obstructive sleep apnea .Surgery does have its fair share of risks, likeInfection.Numbness after surgery due to damage or compression of the nerve. It is usually temporary but there is a risk of permanent numbness but usually for a small area of the jaw and skin. The risks of being under General Anesthesia.Damage to healthy teeth in the vicinity of the split etc.Very rarely pseudrarthrosis.Your orthodontist and Maxillofacial surgeon will inform you of all of these and more. They will suggest alternatives if its possible, like pseudo advancement with functional appliances or camouflage treatment. But when the decision comes down to you, ask your self-Am I okay with the complications/ morbidities associated, if any occur?Do I want to under go surgery for function or for aesthetics? Can I live without having it?And can I afford it?Please consult with your orthodontist and family before you decide. Seek a second opinion if you are unsure. Please correct me if have stated anything wrong in the above answer.

I DO NOT CLAIM THIS IS ALWAYS THE CASE BUT BELIEVE IT SOMETIMES ISIt correlates with guys with bad posture ( often ) meaning the chin was pulled in since childhood and thus the jaw bones didn’t develop properly. The treatment I had by an orthodontist involved pulling my lower jaw out with brace that forced my bite to correct and quit everbiting and thus letting the bone grow.clearly the position you hold it affects the bone growth and my orthodontist told me that bad posture can cause this overbite and that this method of correction only works when young and developing.if you are hunched up with tight neck muscles the chin is pulled in all of your life and it thus doesnt grow and hence nerds often get it since they have weak postural muscles and hunched posture.I imagine it could correlate with testosterone levels also ie guys with low test when young get worse jaws so that is risk factor and low test means you are weaker and more prone to a small degree to poor back posture and holding in the chin due to weaker muscles. If you work hard on your posture over years as i did developing a strong core, good awareness of posture, correcting imbalances in muscles eg weak posterior chain and any gait abnormailities and correcting pelvic issues eg anterior pelvic tilt and get correct relaxed neck then it will get better a bit naturally as you willl release holding it so much.Google image search "before after neil strauss" and you will see clearly that alexander technique and postural cured his receeded jaw ( as he admits ) as it does for many so that posture is related to it is beyond the doubt of folks who are interested in posture ( like me ) . I have no links to alexander technique other than a few sessions i paid for and doubt much of it but it includes good releases ( like massages ) and postural awareness tips it just lacks good muscle building in the back, core, glutes and which is half the issue for many of these gangly nerds and weekly pilates and weight lifting would help.

A weak chin is basically either a lesser developed or pushed back lower jaw bone. In most cases, a receding chin is caused when the lower jaw is smaller than the upper jaw, resulting in a chin which does not protrude forward enough.A quick, simple, and less invasive way to get a stronger chin is using dermal fillers. While fillers like Juvederm, Voluma, or Radiesse are not a permanent solution, there is absolutely no downtime, and you get fast results.A longer lasting solution is chin surgery. Chin augmentation surgery using implants is an effective procedure that adds more definition to the jaw and lower face by altering the size and shape of the chin. Chin implants are a minimally invasive procedure that have long-lasting and excellent results.

Jaw popping in my mouth?

You have a temporomandibular joint disorder (aka TMJ or TMD) and the popping is due to a part of the jaw joint called the articular disk dislocating whenever your teeth come together and then going back into place when you open. This is called reciprocal clicking and is an early stage of TMD. If left untreated this will worsen to intermittent locking and eventually to permanent locking of the jaw so that opening will be limited to 3 fingers or less. The most common causes of TMD are deep overbites, bad bites, Class II jaws (retruded chins), a history of trauma to the head, and extraction of premolars (aka bicuspids) when braces were done, especially in females.

You need to find a dentist who knows how to treat TMJ (not all do) but avoid oral surgeons and traditional orthodontists, trust me. TMD can be effectively treated with functional orthodontics, especially in the early stages. Check this site out to find someone near you who can help: www.iaortho.org.
