My Macbook Goes To Sleep So Quick

Why does my macbook pro run out of batteries so quickly?

Wow Mac haters.

First how old is your laptop? if it's a couple years old then the battery could be running on its last days.

Second you can check your battery's capacity by clicking apple sign on top left menu bar, then go about this mac, then go more detail, the click on the power menu on the left then check the capacity of your battery. High = good battery life, low = short battery life, etc.

There are alot of free mac widgets out there that can help you too.
Try coconut battery and istat pro.

If your battery capacity is high and it's only last 10 minutes the chances are you got a faulty battery. Go to one of the apple store and get a replacement if you're under applecare if not then buy a new one.

Why is my macbook battery dying quickly?

If it's new then take it back to the apple store, it has a 1 year warranty. But I think it's the way you are running it.

The number 1 component that consume the most battery life is your screen, turning down the brightness level will give your battery the extra boost.

Second item that consume battery life is the CPU and the drive, so setting the asleep timing when idle to like 5 minutes interval will boost your battery life. Even if you don't close the screen

Third thing that will affect battery level is background tasks, so if you have time machine backup every 30 minutes, it will increase the battery usage. Then set a longer interval whatever background task you have. Or plug it in.

If you on the go and can't juice it, then set it to sleep every time you are not using it. Or set the screen to turn off every 5 min or so.

Try this and see. You can do a test. Write down the battery level now. Close the lid, which will put the laptop to sleep (as long as you didn't change this behavior in the pref) then open it back up in an hour or 2 or overnight, see what the battery level is then. It should be the same or almost the same. If you are sure it was sleep and the battery ran down significantly, then take it back to the genius bar at the apple store, they will take care of you.

Good luck.

Why do the fans on my MacBook Pro turn on so quickly?

The fans always run, but you are likely referring to them running faster & louder so you notice them.If you run Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder , you can look at the CPU tab, and if it isn’t set to already, sort the list of running programs by “% CPU” to see what is likely causing things to heat up.If nothing is higher than 10–20%, it could be a background process that isn’t run by your user. Go to the View Menu, and change it to show “All Processes”, you may also find it helps to change the “Update Frequency” from the View menu as well to Often or Very Often.Once you have narrowed down which Application or background process is using up a lot of CPU, the next trick can be figuring out “why”. I’ve seen things like email stuck trying to send or save to the server - but can’t because of an error - and it just keeps trying over and over again. Also seen a corrupt file cause the “mds” background process get stuck - it’s part of the spotlight indexing so searches are fast. Once you know the app, look for error messages, if nothing is obvious, try google searches “Mac using 100% CPU” or something like that to see if others have found a solution already.

Why does Google Chrome drain my MacBook's batteries so quickly?

In the menu (the three dots), More Tools, there is Task Manager. You can open that and see a list of what things are running in Chrome, and which ones are using up a lot of CPU. The things using a lot of CPU will be what drains the battery.

Sleep or Shutdown for Mac?

So I have my Macbook Air for weeks now and I noticed that most mac users don't usually shut down their laptops or even their iMac. Most just Sleep (which I never know how it works and never did it to my Macbook Air before) their macs or just close the lid for hours even overnights.

So, is it recommended for macs to sleep it instead of shutting it down? I use my MBA daily and I don't mind powering it on and shutting it down regularly.

If Sleep is really more advisable, then how many times should I shut down my mac because I also heard some don't even shut down their macs for a month or even longer. And if put my mac on Sleep overnight, how many battery percentage would be decreased if it is on sleep for like 8 hours?

Sorry for the continuos questions, but I'll appreciate your answers. Thank you in advance.

If I put my MacBook to sleep, will the downloads stop?

Sleep mode is a power saving state that is similar to pausing a DVD movie. All actions on the computer are stopped, any open documents and applications are put in memory while the computer goes into a low-power state. The computer technically stays on, but only uses a bit of power. You can quickly resume normal, full-power operation within a few seconds. Sleep mode is basically the same thing as “Standby” mode. Not all download links are resumable and varies from site to site. It may be possible that your download links are non resumable. To avoid your MacBook to switch to sleep mode automatically, download ‘Amphetamine’ app from the Appstore or internet. You can select specific time you want your MacBook to stay awake. Your screen may turn off to save battery, but it won't switch to sleep mode, hence keeping your downloads active. Please make sure to keep your screen lid open, as closing the lid will switch the MacBook to Sleep Mode forcefully.Hope this helps!

Do the MacBook Pro fans run when the lid is closed/sleep?

Rebooting once in awhile is generally a good idea but it won’t “hurt” your MacBook to leave it running (in fact there is one school of thought that the greatest stresses occur at power-on). As to the fan noise: You may want to verify that your Energy Saver settings, which can be found under Apple menu > System Preferences, allow for your MacBook to sleep. Some of the heat dissipates through the keyboard when the lid is open during normal use. If the lid is closed you may note additional heat/fan noise in the event Sleep is set to “never” in your Energy Saver pane. If, alternately, you use a keyboard protector, it may trap more heat — which could explain the fan noise. Here is Apple’s FAQ on sleeping portables:About Energy Saver sleep and idle modes in Mac OS XThere are some who install apps like “Amphetamine” and “InsomniaX” to deal with wi-fi disconnects on sleep/wake. If through a Power Management app — or your Energy Saver settings — you are limiting Sleep, it could also explain the fan noise.Lastly, if you are hearing a lot of fan activity you may want to verify that your computer isn’t over-heating during general use. Apps like “Monity” and “iStat” make it easy to monitor temperature, among other functions. Opinions vary but generally you don’t want your Mac to be operating in excess of 150 degrees for prolonged periods. (My MBP runs at about 100–120F average.) If you find that your MacBook is running too hot even under relatively light load — not editing video, not gaming, not viewing Flash-heavy websites — schedule a Genius bar appointment.iStat Menus

Why does my MacBook Pro retina 13 inch over heat when I play games such as The Sims 4?

I once had a Toshiba laptop, very nice on, 650 MHz. Then one day, shortly after my employer gave it to me, I noticed that my bag was super hot, my machine had not gone to sleep as it was supposed to do, and inside my bag, there was not much of fresh cool air, so it was so hot, everything on the machine was hot to the touch. A quick open on the lid, and lock it again, and it went to sleep and quickly became colder. After this I suspected it must have broken, but it did not. It kept working and was awesome in every way. Then Civ III came out in 2001. Every time I played it, my machine got so hot you would not believe it, but it never failed, the fans came on and stayed on the whole game pretty much, and it was so hot I was scared I had damaged it.Well, later I learnt that this was normal, this is what happens when you put powerful components into a small space, my desktop machine which I got later on, never moved a fan, because it was that much bigger. So back to the mac. Your computer is not made out of aluminium just to look nice, nope. It is made with such an expensive component because it moves heat better than most other compounds, this is also why small, cheap and very slow machines can be made out of plastic.Your CPU gets very hot, but it is quite ok to run at 100 degrees celsius, it isn’t a problem, unless you are water, it will start changing water into vapour, and guess what, you are a bag of meat made out of water, so you will burn, your machine is just fine as long as it can pull in air from the backside, but your keyboard will soon be 50–60 degrees and warm to the touch, you will notice that your hands feel clammy or sweaty. This is because in order to move all these pixels on screen and run game logic, calculate what every sim will do, buy, steal or sleep, it needs to calculate a lot, and by doing so, your cpu will start to run faster and pull in more electricity to do so.Think of your CPU light a lightbulb in a lamp that you have a fader on, except your lightbulb controls the fading operation by it self. When it needs to light, it will crank up that switch, but in daylight it will run much darker. A lightbulb which is running as high as it gets, gets seriously warm, same when it is almost off, or off, it is quite cold.I hope this answers your question. All computers will run this hot playing a complicated game.
