My Maths Teacher Beats Me Daily In Front Of The Principal

Have you ever got a beating by your teacher?

A lot of times. Sharing one of my experience. :PI got my first beating when i was in 4rth standard. That too from my favorite teacher. I was in Madurai before and finding a tamilian who speaks fluent Hindi was far difficult. My Hindi teacher was very much impressed by my Hindi and I became her favorite student. To say about my teacher - a very strict person with strong and loud voice. She usually roams with a large wooden scale in her hand, just to ensure discipline in the school. One fine (bad) day, I forgot to do my Hindi homework. My Hindi teacher was in a very bad mood because of some meeting held in the principal's office. Seeing her furious looks I got really scared and to avoid her wooden stick on me I thought of making some excuse. While she was checking other students homework, I went upto her boldly and made a blunt excuse.Me:(in Tamil) mam,  nethu enaku odambu serile mam. Anale na homework panale. Oru vati excuse kudunge mam. ( mam, I was not feeling well yesterday so I didn't complete my homework. Please excuse me this one time.) And, within a flash of second she grabbed her wooden scale and slashed me in my legs, like never before. I was too shocked by her reaction!! My eyes got swelled up with tears and I ran to my place and started crying. She was staring at me like an 'eagle watching its prey'. My legs showed imprints of her wooden scale. I cried a lot. I didn't speak to anyone for the whole day. When I narrated this incident to my parents, they just asked me to complete my homework on time to avoid such punishments. But next day I found out the real reason for such beating. (During Hindi class... towards the end).Mam: (came up to me and said) I am really sorry for what I did yesterday. I was only furious because you were not speaking in Hindi (O_O). I felt guilty for beating you when you were sick. (And she left). I was like whaaaat!!!?.

I hate teaching, and it's because of the pathetic parents?

I teach 6th grade social studies, this is my first year of teaching and I already hate it! It's not really because of the students, it's more of the parents I can't stand. Our middle school started back Aug 5th, so we've been in school for almost a month and of course I have been giving out homework and I already have given out a simple poster project that is due this coming up Friday. Well I suppose the parents could care less about their child's education due to the fact I have numerous phone calls a week from bitchy parents and their pathetic excuses on why I shouldn't be giving their kids homework every night, and the most common one is "In elementary school, Sally never had homework every night." So get this, they give their kids "permission" to not turn in their homework! So of course missing homework results in a 0 for the student and then they come up to the school complaining to me on how it isn't fair I gave their kid a 0. It's not just the homework, it's also the lack of discipline! A good example is the other day I had a kid in my 4th period class who blew his nose and threw the tissue on the floor on purpose and I suppose expected me to pick it up for him, so I wrote him up after we had an argument over it and of course I get a call from his parents yelling at me for sending their kid to the office and telling me I have no right to discipline him.

Any other teachers out there that have similar experiences? Please share!

Im an awsome teacher, but this year I got three of satan's offspring...do I have to deal with it?

I totally understand what you are saying. I work in an environment where the students are not classified as special needs, but they all have retained more than once... for one reason or another. The building I work in is an Alternative Education building and I have what most would classify as "the worst of the worst"... However, they won't work with you, until they know you care about them. Find a connection - however small it may be, and latch onto it!

Since you can't change them - change yourself! Obviously, with a lack of administrative or parental support, you really have your work cut out for you.

My suggestion.... work with what you have, and DON'T try to be something you're not. If you are very matter of fact kind of teacher... talk to your students about the expectations, and what you all want toget out of this year - now, how are you going to get there? If you are more of a relaxed teacher, find ways to allow the students to explore learning through their interests (make Rap songs for language arts... flash card for math.... models for science) - there are a TON of things you can try. Most students that seem unruly are the ones that need more energetic lessons -hands on type stuff!

I have worked in "regular education" classrooms as well as at my current job. I have found that students are more likely to respond if you give them what they perceive to be choices.

Just today, I gave the student the "choice" - do you want to do your work quietly, OR do you want me to call home. I had the phone in hand, and the child made the wise choice of getting back to work!

Even though, there might not be much in terms of follow through at home, continuing to contact the family and DOCUMENTING it -will eventually get some results! I know it sounds tideous, but it really works in the long run!

Good luck with such a trying class, and keep at it. Remember, you also have 20+ other children that seem to be positive... when you are getting frustrated, look at the majority of your students as working hard, and trying! You may just be the change in your student's lives they all need!

What is your most embarrassing moment in front of the whole class or in front of your teacher?

It was when my teacher supported me and I insulted her.I am a 91 born kid. Hence, my childhood obviously had a fantasy to own a nice “Hero Pen” and I had my precious one too.Pen looked something like thisThat day, in my class, I saw my pen missing and was totally pissed off.I got mad at everyone, I saw every friend, every class mate as a brutal culprit.I had my anger rushing so much that, I interrupted the lesson half way by raising my hand to spoof her asking for a doubt, stood up in front of everyone and this happened.ME : “Miss!! Someone stole my pen and I really like that pen a lot. I definitely want it back. Without which, I dont like to do any homework “MISS: “You should have kept it at home and forgotten..! Do you want to interrupt the lesson for your pen? Ramya…We shall deal with this later...…Now…Sit down!”ME: “No Miss! It went missing only in this class. So whoever had stolen it will surely be here and I want it back from them”MISS: “ How do you know that someone stole it?”ME: “Miss..I am the only one who owns such a pen. Everybody is jealous of me. Sure someone took it!”MISS : “Okay! Do you want to check the bags of your classmates now??”My teacher being kind and supportive approved me for my pen search warrant.Wasting the whole of English class, I, like a CID officer, sneaked in everybody’s bag and searched for my pen. (my class strength was 32 ).Alas! The vast search of my class mates bag was over and I still couldn’t find my pen.ME: “Miss! I am still not able to find my pen!”MISS: “Mm..I see you have checked every bag of others and have you checked your bag?ME : “Miss…..ss..sss….! ”MISS: “Let me have your bag checked. Bring it here!”That was when the most supportive teacher of mine, searched my bag and saw a interior zip of my bag had my pen popping out.She took it out, showed me and the class, the so claimed lost pen, holding high. She definitely had an angry look upon me for having wasted the whole class. Two of my eyes went round and round in astonishment for a moment, for a billion times when I searched it was not there and suddenly how did that come? And, I was finally embarrassed in front of whole class like thisP.S: I, was given a punishment to complete 10 extra pages in my hand writing note book :(

What is the worst thing you've done at school?

Be honest. I'm just curious.

the worst thing i've done was actually all in one day. before school i drank 4 beers and a shot of gin on a half empty stomach and then went to school, then about 3rd period, i ditched a period just for the hell of it and then at lunch, i snuck off campus with my friend and we bought a pack of cigarettes and then smoked a couple, and then the last period of the day i ditched also with my other friends and then went home. I could have gotten suspended for being intoxicated at school, a saturday school for ditching 3rd period, a saturday school and suspension for smoking and going off campus at lunch and then another saturday school for ditching 6th period but i didn't get any of that because i didn't get caught...not trying to brag or nothing. i just want to see what everyone else has done.
