My Mom Is On Section 8. If I Give Her A Car Will It Affect Her Qualification To Live There

When my child turns 18 how will it affect my section 8 assistance?

I had this happen to one tenant and the child was no longer counted on their section 8 so their reimbursement went from over $800 to $90 (yeah, just ninety bucks). However, I have another tenant who just had their son turn 18 (like a few weeks ago) and they claim they have discussed it with section 8 and it will not affect their section 8 since the child still lives at home and has no job ie is still a dependant (we'll see).

So, this can (and typically has) have a huge impact but maybe not, if the child is still a dependant and what the other tenant is saying is accurate (but to be blunt I'm very suspect about what this tenant is saying - I've always seen huge drops in the reimbursement due to this and I have an inkling that I may be having problems with this tenant soon if they are mistaken).

If a person who receives Section 8 housing benefits receives a personal injury settlement (less than $15,000), will that settlement be counted as income? If so, what would the penalty be?

Yes. Any income received from a settlement will impact income-sensitive style benefits, such as welfare. There can be either a temporary denial of benefit for a certain term OR you would have to use the settlement to re-pay the government in any benefits provided. There is a way to solve this however. You can have the settlement documents and or court order allow the funds to be placed into a qualifying Special Needs Trust. The insurance company and/or your attorney should know this. The Trust limits you ability to use the money to only certain things allowed by law. It is a pretty long list. There are some restrictions but its better than losing all of the money. The government social worker you may be dealing with knows about this as well and most of them cooperate with you and/or your attorney. They want to make sure you keep your benefits. So, you should discuss this with your lawyer or your insurance company. Some states also allow some very small settlements to no result in a loss of benefits. So, you should talk to your lawyer or the insurance company about that. Make sure that you do not accept settlement funds into ANY account before you have resolved these issues.

Section 8 - Inherit Money - How will it affect housing Voucher?

I'm hoping to receive answers - not opinions. The tenant has not yet received the money so she has not yet done anything wrong. She plans to disclose any money she accepts, but at this point she wants to understand her options before accepting a financial gift that will be far less helpful to her children (over time) than continuing to receive her current assistance from the government which provides for healthcare, utilities, and rent until her last child is 25. Like it or not, the folks who receive assistance from the government weigh their financial options just like people who are not on assistance. There is no benefit to leaving a program that guarantees to pay all your rent and/or mortgage when you loose your job. There is no incentive to encourage people to leave the Section 8 program. In my experience, most feel they are lucky to have the assistance and don't want to loose the benefit. Please don't answer question unless you know the answer - opinions are not helpful.

Will i lose my section 8 hud housing if i get married?

All adults living in the home have to qualify, married or not. The act of getting married does not effect section 8. The act of him sleeping in the house more then 14 days in a year does.

If i was on section 8 can i adopt from foster care or be a foster parent ?

Call your local county Housing Authority where you live and ask them. Stop asking people who dont know.

How does receiving an inheritance affect section 8 jn nj?

My mom is due to receive an inheritance from her mother passing. The house my grandmother owned is being sold and split between herself and 4 other sibling. The amounth is roughly between 18-10 grand. Which in all reality isnt much money for a long term use.My concern is that she will lose section all together after getting this money. After moving into a larger home and buying a good vehicle it wont last long. Is there any way for her to keep her section 8? In NJ they have stopped this program with the exception of the people already on it. So if she is kicked off re applying is not an option. I want to make a smart moving decision and would hate to go from where we are to something that goes by your income. In total the household gets under 1,000 each month and is not enough for her to live off of without help from section 8 at the moment, Any advice?

My mom has a Section 8 voucher and charging me rent?

She only has to pay $26 a month.......
My sister and I pay for the water, cable, internet, electricity, her car payments and her gas and food. My sister is disabled. I am her payee. I have a job and is saving money so my sister and I can get out of this negative enabling household. My mom haven't worked in 2 years. She expects us to take care of her. She is 44. My sis and I are 24 years old.

So this morning my mom is threatening to kick me out because I won't give "her money" I told her I am going to lend her my money for her car payments after she signs an agreement to pay back when she cans.

She is threatening to take me to court all because I am being an adult.

I am not sure if I am on the lease or not. But sis and I are planning to move out anyways.

Can my mom charge me and sis rent ($250) when she has a voucher?

I'm sorry taxpayers..
