My Month Old Cries And Strains When He Poos

11 Month old with severe straining while pooping...?

My 11 month old daughter has been having severe issues with pooping for almost 3 1/2 months. It began when we started table foods and continues still. The thing is...she is NOT constipated, her poop is soft. However, she strains HORRIBLY, to the point of crying & sweating for up to a 1/2 hour sometimes only to have a small amount of poop in her diaper. I will then change her and the process starts all over again. (She sometimes will have up to 15 poop diapers a day). Because of this pattern, her bum is raw and red and looks very painful. I have tried everything....adding water to her diet as well as juice (which she completely rejects), we have tried mineral oil, benefiber, Fleet suppositories, adding poop foods to her diet (prunes, peaches, pears) and NOTHING is helping. The doctor seems to be downplaying the whole issue and doesn't seem to be alarmed. He prescribed Miralax, which helps some, but I want to know 1. why this is happening? 2. What I can do to help her? 3. If she is not "constipated", then why do we need to use a laxative? 4. Are there any signs of a more serious issue here?

Has anyone else experienced this with their little one? If so, please...I beg of you to share with me your experiences and any other info that may help my poor baby girl.

How can i get my one month old to poop?

I have a two month old, and I had the same problem when he was a month old...His doctor recommended an infant glycerin suppository, and it worked very quickly. If you cant find the infants then get childrens and only use half...this should do the trick. If it doesnt work, then you need to call your doctor. Dont try anything else because a baby is very sensitive and fragile, and you really have to watch what you put in their system...

A proud mother of three!

When do babies outgrow the straining to poop? 10 points?

and no, he is not constipated. I don't think anyway. He poops almost every time he nurses! Exclusively breastfed and stool is soft.
Our pedi said they just don't know how to push & poop effectively yet.

When do they typically outgrow this?
He screams & strains every bowl movement. It's awful.

Suggestions for a 2 week old who is straining to poop and fart?

He is not constipated because his poop looks like it should for a breastfed infant... mustard yellow, seedy, loose and soft. Here's some things we've already tried:
bicycling his legs, giving him formula instead of breastmilk (to see if it was something in my milk).

I don't think it's colic bc he is consolable. But even when he's not crying, he's still straining and pushing and getting red faced while trying to poop and fart. He seems frustrated and like it's way too much effort. Sometimes it's obviously painful to him and he'll even get tears in his eyes:(

Has anyone found something that worked for their 2 week old?

Can an IUD be loosened if your straining when you poop?

Yeah but your baby when it gets big enough to lay on the cervix it is closed and the baby is big. The IUD is small and is made to come out when enough pressure is put on it.

Why would an infant cry before he poops?

Often babies get abdominal cramping before pooping..as do adults, its from the intestines contracting to push the bm out. Do not worry this is very common and is not harmful to baby. If the poo becomes hard balls like rabbit poo or is an unusual color for your baby then consult your pediatrician.
