It isn't specific to America the, appetite for drugs is everywhere. Therefore it would fall to an individual level and that could fall to any number of reasons, sometimes from a want to feel something different sometimes for other reasons I can't speak for all. Anyways drugs in general make you feel good, the ones that don't aren't illegal generally at least in America. Example LSD is illegal it makes you think differently in a more positive manner some would say, marijuana is illegal in certain states, compared to alcohol it makes you feel good but it seems to have less damage in long term to pretty much all of your body and mind when used in excess. Anime where people use drugs to gain supernatural power/supernatural abilities?
I was thinking Super Mario Brothers, except that he doesn't die unless the player screws up. He ingests mushrooms and green plants to get enhanced powers after all. Cartoons (and even some live action shows) have had the hero getting powers from ingesting a pill or something, though I don't remember one using needles. I'm guessing that one would lack kid appeal.

After you are running full-speed, press down (duck) and you will slide, you can jump while sliding and land and still be sliding... Beware that you cant slide on other surfaces other than ice. You will just skid a ways...
Why are illicit drugs illegal?
@fullretard,I can't say that I'm surprised by the fact that you are living up to your screen name. And it's a good one,because it describes you to a T. I don't recall ever writing anything that either directly,or indirectly,stated that I believe that illicit drugs should be legalized. Seeing as how alcohol and tobacco has contributed to countless deaths over the years. I asked this question to figure why it's perfectly okay to sell/use either of them,if not both. If safety and good health is a concern,it makes very little sense to criminalize other drugs if the government has allowed people to use either substance,knowing damn well that they're both dangerous to our health.
