My New Born Is A Week Old And Constipated What Do I Do

What do you do for a baby who is 2 weeks old and is constipated?

It's always good to ask your pediatrician so I do hope you do that.   That said, my son had this problem.  He was only a week old when the constipation started.  Of course, my son was on formula.  Your pediatrician will probably tell you that if you're breastfeeding bowel movements can be infrequent at first.  For my son, it was the formula.  I gave him an ounce of prune juice when he couldn't go and seemed uncomfortable.  It worked as a temporary solution (no ill effects).  The permanent solution for us was to switch his formula to Emfamil Reguline.  It's the only one on the market that has probiotics.  After he started on that my son had no problems.  Now that he's almost 18 months old we make sure he has plenty of yogurt and fruits and vegetables.  We also make sure he drinks plenty of water.  Dehydration can really add to the problem.

What to do for 2 week old constipation?

my baby is 19 days old and he was constipated for about 2 days as well .. and was in alot of pain .. this was last week by the way.i called his pediatrician and the nurse suggested a few things

1- give the baby a few ounces of water a day
2- mix baby prune juice the gerber kind with water.. just a small amount of juice and give it to him
3- use gas relief drops
4- the thermometer in the rectum to try and get things going
5- bicycling his legs to help him push
6- massaging his belly in a warm bath
7-glycerin suppositories
and a friend recommended Karo syrup to be mixed with an oz of water.. just a tablespoon.. and the nurse said they used to recommend that but dont anymore

what helped me was bicycling his legs, massaging his belly, and i gave him a few oz of water a day .. and hes doing much better but hey hope one of these help because iknow it can be difficult to deal with and watch ur little one be uncomfortable.. if u have any other questions feel free to email me @ beautifulbump08@yahoo.com

Constipated baby? What to do? Almost 5 weeks old?

You can try offering a little diluted prune juice or use a suppository (I had to use these a few times with my daughter). Another method I used that caused her to either toot or poop was a tummy massage. Personally, I preferred using the tummy massage method to the first two, so I'll explain it to you.

First, I would massage her belly clockwise about 15 times, beginning on the upper right hand side of her stomach and ending in the lower right. Then, I would bicycle her legs about 20 times or so. Finally, I would push her legs in, pressing her knees gently into her stomach. If your baby is anything like mine was, though, watch out for a yucky mess.

I have a 5 day old who is constipated... what can I do to help her go?

First of all, you are getting some REALLY BAD advice above.

We need to know, is your baby breastfed or formula fed? Breastfed babies do not get constipated. It is possible, that she's constipated if she's on formula, but not likely this early in life. She's brand, brand new and her system is just starting to get used to processing milk. That's why it's so dangerous to feed her juice or anything that isn't milk.

It is NORMAL for breastfed babies to go days without making a poop. Breastmilk is so perfect that sometimes there is no waste to expel. Just last week my 11 week old went for 5 days without pooping (he just stored it up for a big explosion.)

Do NOT feed your 5 day old baby apple juice, syrup, water or anything else that isn't milk--that kind of intake can damage her insides, _permanently_.

Also, constipation refers to the consistency of the poop, not how often they poop. If she poops occasionally and it's liquid, she's not constipated. If she poops and it's hard pellets, like adult poo, she IS constipated and she needs to see a doctor before trying any home remedies, especially in a baby that little.

If her poop comes out like grape jelly that is a medical emergency and call an ambulance.

Your mom is right, wait it out. Trust her little body and wait until tomorrow.

My Newborn is constipated, what's the best solution??

Do not give your five week old baby fruit juice or prune juice or brown sugar or anything else. Are those people who suggest this serious! The baby is five weeks old!!!

Just carry on feeding your baby on demand. And if you have one, put her in a sling and carry her about, the upright position will encourage her to go and you can get on with other stuff.

All babies are different and assuming when she does go that the poo is normal then it maybe that she is not constipated, just that she does less poos than some other babies.

If you are worried take her to the health visitor.

Can I just repeat, don't follow some peoples ridiculous advice of giving a 5 week old baby anything other than breast milk!
