My One-year-old Swallowed A Pebble. Do Rocks Digest

What are tonsils stones and what happens if you swallow them?

Tonsil stones are particles of rotting/rotted food trapped in the folds of the tonsil and acted on by the bacteria that live in your mouth and throat. You swallowed the food to begin with, and if you collect stones and debris yes you are swallowing that all the time. Some individuals carry them chronically without problems while others develop pain and infections. They can be cleaned out occasionally or a tonsillectomy is curative.

I accidentally swallowed a pebble. What should I do?

It really is a matter of:How big was the pebble? How sharp was it?If it was a small, smooth pebble, you will probably pass it in a few days, if you don’t go see a doctor. If it was a larger pebble, watch for abdominal pain, if so, go to a doctor. If it was a sharp pebble, watch for abdominal pain and blood, you might want to go see a doctor in these latter two cases.

Puppy eating small rocks?

I have a boerboel who has eaten stones since he was a puppy and there is nothing we can do to stop him from eating and swallowing them. He just lays in the garden chewing on stone after stone and I am talking big rocks like the size of a persons fist, he actually digs them up to eat them.

There is probably nothing you can do, my dog is now 2 years old and we have never had to take him to the vet for the stones, so I'm sure your dog will be fine.

Why do dogs eat Rocks? Does it help digestion?

No, dogs eat anything so stop him or you may have to have a vet remove the rocks!

What happens if I swallow a tiny piece of diamond?

After an X-ray exposed the pricey gem lodged in Chow's throat, the man was taken to a hospital and given laxatives, according to news reports.A Chinese tourist was arrested Wednesday (Sept. 5) after an X-ray revealed he had stolen and swallowed a diamond worth $13,600 at a gem exhibition in Sri Lanka.Judging by the number of similar incidents from this year alone, covertly swallowing jewels and replacing them with replicas seems a common criminal tactic. It happened in May in Ontario, Canada, when a 52-year-old man swallowed a $20,000 diamond at a jewelry store. Forensic investigators retrieved the rock by monitoring the thief's bowel movements in a "special police cell" without a flushing toilet, according to Dirgh Diamond One of the Leading Diamonds Manufacturers in India Loose Certified Diamonds In India Diamonds Suppliers & Wholesalers in IndiaIn a botched sleight-of-hand, Chow Cheng, 32, ingested a 1.5-carat diamond he was inspecting at an exhibition stall and tried to replace it with a synthetic one, but the owner of the stall saw him do it.

Why do birds eat stones and pebbles?

It's creating a gastrolith [1].  This is a very common behavior among ground birds, which against logic, swallow stones to help in digestion. The digestion process is a bit different for birds, because they do not have teeth. In this answer, the focus would be on a particular part of the digestive system: the gizzard [2]. It can, in all rights, be called the avian teeth, because of its primary purpose of grinding food. Food from the crop (a part of the esophagus that help temporarily store food) needs to be ground before digestion. To help the gizzard to do its job, birds swallow sharp stones. These stones are held by the gizzard, and through muscle contraction grind them with other stones and food to essentially chew the food the bird had swallowed. In time, the stones lose their sharpness. When this happens, the birds vomit them out, and seek another sharp stone.Gastroliths, which mean "stomach stones" are not only used by birds, but also by reptiles and some mammals for other reasons. What's more, they have even been found in some herbivorous dinosaurs too.[1] Gastrolith[2] Bird Digestion

My dog ate rocks will he die?

Depends on whether he's eaten enough that they are going to form a blockage, which might happen. It's a good sign that some, if not all, are coming through, but obviously this isn't good news and rather than be sorry, I think I'd ask somebody to help you get him checked by a vet who should be able to palpate (feel) for a blockage. This might however, mean he needs x-raying, depending on what the vet feels. Can you contact your parents and get their permission to have him looked at by your vet?

I can't tell you whether this is a definite emergency, but it could be ................. especially if you start to see blood, or he doesn't have any more stools but has still eaten. I do think you should give him a smaller meal than usual next time, and wait and see what happens.

I have a 4lb Yorkie that swallowed a plum pit. Would watching her stool till it comes out be ok?

Well I would have to wonder just how large the pit was. I am not a huge fan of running off to the ER for every little thing but I am a fan of being very observant of your dog for the next few days.Water will help induce bowel movements and so will excercise.i think I would take you dog for a nice long walk, encourage drinking water and watch closely for any signs of pain, such as panting and lethargy.I think I might also consider giving some fiber That will also help your dog have a bowel movement .Some breads have 5 5 fiber like Miltons or a human not sugary cereal that has fiber over 4 %The whole point is to get this to move through your dogs system and not become stuck.Since you alone know how big the pit was you will have to be the judge if your little dog can actually pass it. My general rule of thumb is if thaye can get it down their throat , they can poop it out their butt.

Watch carefully for any signs of distress.
