My Parents Only Got Me Candy For Easter

Why do some parents give their kids access to unlimited candy?

I am that “some” parent. My oldest kid did not enjoy that unlimited candy since birth - younger kids do not possess sufficient self-control to regulate their candy consumption, but as soon as the kid was old enough to use the stairs on their own (to go up to their room or to go down to the kitchen), the lift on candy ban was removed. This was my thinking: a kid who’s tall enough and strong enough to get to candy can easily sneak that candy in their room without me knowing, and this can be a problem on several fronts (lying to me, hiding candy/forgetting about it/getting bugs interested in it, and having a wrong goal in life - unlimited candy is not a goal worthy of a child’s imagination). So, all candy got consolidated in a candy drawer - yes, we actually have such a thing in our house, right next to the utensil drawer. It always has a stash of candy, and chocolates, and lollipops, and gum - and kid has access to it all the time. This alone might have killed the novelty of the sugar rush - what kind of forbidden fruit would be just sitting out there, in the open? That’s the story of my oldest one.And then I have a younger child, who’s only a toddler at this time, and who would like nothing more than access to that candy (and eating self into an oblivion.. as you can imagine) - and for that reason, the candy is just out of the reach for the little human.Yet..Yet, there is a small chair in the kitchen, and I am checking daily if the toddler has figured out how to use that chair to get a boost and reach the candy drawer. Will keep you updated :)

What do you get for easter?

i normally get like 100-150 dollars in my easter eggs then like dvds giftcards and jewelry and lip gloss and stuff in my basket i was wondering if thats a lot and what everyone else gets or what you got when you were younger

Parents, at what age do you choose to stop giving Easter gifts/baskets/candy/etc. to your children?

This is something my husband and I have a hard time agreeing on. In my family, we were given SOMETHING for Easter until we went off to college. However, my husband says we should stop as soon as she stops believing in the Easter Bunny.

How about your family? I'm just wanting to get a general opinion on this matter.

How can I keep my children from the paganry of the Easter Bunny?

I commend you for your efforts. Separating yourself from those of Titus 1:16 that publically say they know God, but disown Him by their works.

It says you want to worship "in deed and truth." (1John 3:18)

First, I would say to be honest with your kids. Don't say there is an Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. You want them to have presents, great! Don't claim they are from fake person. Admit you bought them because you love your kids.

At some point in the future, they will discover how truthful their parents were and how important that is. Trust is important all throughout their lives.

Too, you can show them from the Bible, it is always the right time for this, that Christ's death, not resurrection is the only anniversary we are supposed to keep. (1Cor. 11:20-26) Notice "keep doing this in remembrance of me." He never said this about any other occasion; birth, baptism, resurrection, etc.

My parents got me nothing for Easter but got my sister expensive stuff?

My sister got an IPhone, Ugg Boots, and a new laptop and my parents gave me 6 dollars and told me to buy a game that I wanted. When I told her that it wasn't fair they didn't care and just said that I was a spoiled bratt. My sister took over the whole upstairs and I sleep in the tv room that has a big, crappy, space taking tv that is almost broken and has a slit in the screen and a sandy, rock hard futon that I sleep on. I make A's and B's, my sister makes C's and D's, yet they favorite her. What's wrong with me? People at school say that I am pretty and my parent's never tell me that I am. What do I do?

I'm addicted to candy, how can I stop eating it?

Good question...two options (i'll keep it simple and you can hit me up if you want more details)

1. Slowly ween yourself off of sugar. It won't be easy but once you start and continue eating healthier and exercising on a regular basis you will find that these cravings greatly decrease. Plus you won't want to ruin all your hard work for just a few seconds of supposed gratification. Also, your stomach will not be able to handle the extra sugar so you will naturally not want much of it.

2. Stick with dark chocolate (darker the better). It has antioxidants and can be good for you if you eat it in moderation

3. Sweets in general - odwalla bars (chocolate chip ones taste like a cookie...mmm), dried fruit, fruit, whole fruit smoothies (make yourself), [peanut butter, ripe banana, cookies and cream whey protein smoothie]
