How to change monitor refresh rate without monitor?
I was trying to set my monitor on my Arch Linux system to a new resolution when I had accidentally changed the refresh rate to a setting too high for the monitor. Now I have no access to the display on the monitor. It wont even let me into the monitor system menu. Here is what I do have: 1. SSH access (with root) 2. VNC (with a few limitations) -only allows access to secondary display not the one on the physical monitor -says 'extension randr missing on display :1' when I try to access monitor settings 3. a second computer 4. a decent knowledge of how to use a UNIX system from the command line (install packages, edit config files, some bash scripting) Here is what I need: 1. A way to change the display settings on my physical monitor through SSH 2. Access to the primary display in VNC 3. Any other way you can think of to fix this I would appreciate any help I can get.

it's not the monitor that needs drivers it's the graphics card to windows one monitor is much the same as another if the monitor is plug and play then windows can automatically set up the correct resolution for you or at least advise you of it if the monitor is non plug and play you'll have to set up the resolution yourself

I've had 2 monitors blow in the last 4 months connected to the same computer. Both were older, but it seems like more than a coincidence (I have 2 monitors connected to 1 computer).
