My Retainer Tastes Really Bad

What do you do if your retainer tastes bad?

I wear invisalign braces and sometimes mine get really gross. There is a product called Kleenite that cleans retainers. You just add it to water and put your retainer in it. You can usually ask your orthodontist about it or go online and see where you can find it. I always get it from my orthodontist.

Why does my retainer taste and smell so bad?

I brush it whenever I brush my teeth. But it stays tasting good for about 30 seconds. Then once ive suck all the flavor off of it, it taste bad again. If i put it in some Listerine or something for a while will that help?

Why does my retainer make me have a bad taste in my mouth?

I got mine around the same time and i completely understand where your coming from! Sometimes it just smells so bad even though i wash it and when i first take it out in the morning....ew the taste. Anyway lol its normal to have a bad taste to an extent but if you finding it really repellent it signals your not cleaning it enough. The feeling of heavy, bad breathe is normal and its likely your breath actually isn't bad. IN terms of cleaning your retainer you should wash it three times a day- just with toothpaste from your brush in the morning-with water in the afternoon and with denture cleaner in the evening. Whenever you take it out and eat you should rinse it with water as well as your mouth. The white marks you describe are common and are a build up of gunk and calcium- soak your retainer in a mix of half and half water and vinegar for about half an hour, then brush it and rinse it. (so half a cup water and half a cup vinegar)

dont eat with it in at all and dairy makes any kind of smell worse.

this should help:) good luck and remember it wont last forever:)

Why does my retainer taste/smell really bad in the morning?

I'm supposed to wear it 24 hours but ew no so I always wear it at night. Whenever I wake up it always has the same taste; (this May sound disgusting) but it taste like straight up rotten eggs. People say to soak it in mouthwash and brush it with toothpaste but my dentist said that's not good for my type and to just brush it with dish soap. I do, but it doesn't help with the morning stink. Ughhh ):

The plastic on my retainer tastes bad. Is there any harm in the taste? And how do I remove the taste of it?

The bad taste comes from bacteria on the retainer. You can soak the retainer in a denture cleaner. Brushing with toothpaste may help but might put micro scratches into the surface. This is better than the bacteria and taste. Don't forget to brush the inside surfaces. Soaking the retainer in mouthwash is another way to help freshen the surface.Basically, you just need to keep the retainer clean and this will take care of the problem.

What do retainer taste like?(weird)?

I had a retainer, and color doesn't matter at all. No one sees it but you, (unless you show people). Try this. Take a salt water taffy and squish it so its flat. Put it on the roof of your mouth. I know that sounds weird, but it really does feel like a retainer. As for the taste. Brush your retainer morning and night just like you would brush your teeth. If you don't. You'll start getting the taste of morning breathe, or even the day's food. Listen to your orthodontist. If he says where your retainer for this many months, DO IT OR YOUR TEETH WILL MOVE BACK INTO ITS NORMAL PLACE.

How can I get rid of the acrylic taste on my retainer?

I just got a new retainer today and whenever I put it in my mouth, It tastes like the smell of nail acrylic. It is so bad that I can't wear it. I know its not saliva or food because I have not eaten with it on. Please help! I have tried soaking it in listerine and brushing it with tooth paste. I was wondering if someone had a way to take the wretched taste away and keep it away for at least a few days. Thanks!
