My Saiga 12 Jams Need Advice On The Correct Ammunion

Most important features for a tactical shotgun?

How important all these features to you for a tactical shotgun and why, please?
1) Semi vs Pump Action
2) Ghost rings
3) Folding Stock
4) Pistol grip
5) Muzzle Break

I've got up to $900 to work with, to buy and accessorize my shotgun. I'm torn between the saiga 12, a mossberg 590A1, remington 1100 tac-4, mossberg 930 road blocker!

How common is a semi auto shotgun to jam?

Depends on the action and it depends on the shells. I have a Saiga 12 that digests pretty much everything on the restricted setting, only occasionally stovepiping light birdshot while skeet shooting on the "magnum" setting.

Self-adjusting gas operated shotguns are exceptionally reliable without adjustment.

Recoil operated shotguns are reliable when set up for the shells being used.

Adjustable (but non-self-adjusting) gas operated shotguns are generally reliable when set up for the shells being used.

Autos jam. Auto shotguns jam. Clearance is usually a matter of racking the bolt and going back to shooting.

Pumps can jam, too. Even Remington 870s.

Can a 223 remington ammo snoot from an ak-47?

NO! .223 is the same as 5.56 the round the AK fires is a 7.62x39

the .223/5.56 round won't even fit into the chamber of the AK and trying to force is will cause damage and could injure the shooter

since the .223 round is smaller it "could" be fired from an AK-47 but the bullet would bounce down the barrel so unless your life is being threatened do NOT fire a .223/5.56 round in a AK-47, it would be like firing a .32 cal in a .45 cal pistol

for cheap ammo go to cheaperthandirt.com

they have deals on bulk ammo; 1000 and 500 round cases

Gun questions?

For concealed carry, a 9mm will do the job. Provided that you get the proper ammunition, which is a JHP, and probably with a +P designation. It has the added benefit of being inexpensive in relation to other calibers, giving you more of an opportunity to practice with it. Really only you can answer what pistol would be best, because noone else has any way of knowing what will fit your hand best. Some models to consider are Glock 19 or 17, CZ-75, Springfield XD9, Smith & Wesson MP9, and many many others.
For a home defense situation, where you can have whatever you want, a rifle or shotgun are far greater than a pistol for several reasons. They are more powerful, easier to shoot and can usually carry more rounds (in a rifle, not usually the case in a shotgun). A .223 is an excellent choice, since the recoil is minimal, the ammunition plentifiul and believe it or not, studies show that it loaded properly (again, jhp) penetrates through wallboard less than many pistol rounds due to the fact that it loses energy quickly when tumbling, Mini 14 and AR15's are good choices, but i'd like to recommend the Saiga. Its a russian made rifle (made in the same factories as the AK-47) thats quite reliable, for half or less of the price than the Mini 14-AR15's. It only comes with 10 rounds, but is readily modified to carry 30 round magazines, but you have to make sure you do it within the realm of applicable laws.

Why do people say AK-47's never jam?

I saw that movie, the Lord of War. There is a scene where it is said that AK-47's never jam, overheat, or fail. People watched the movie and they believed all the hype. The AK-47 is reliable, I am not saying that it isn't, it is reliable. But sometimes the media makes it seem indestructible and almighty, which it isn't. The AK-47's can take a lot of abuse and they also develop rust when exposed to the elements and moisture. They are great weapons.

Do semi shotguns jam lots ?

Some do and some don't.

Keeping you shotgun squeaky clean and always using full power loads will help. But I've seen some that were chronic jammers even spotlessly clean and loaded with premium High brass hunting loads.

Then again I've also seen a few that could be shot until they were so dirty they looked like they'd been shot with blackpowder and they kept right on ticking.

All you can do is pay your money and take your chances.

Personally I prefer side-by-side doubles for sport and pump-actions for "Social" use.

How many shotgun shells can one man hold?

You can carry 500 shotgun shells for any reasonable, useful distance along with any other gear you'll need? Sorry, but I'm gonna call BS.

100 Winchester 2 3/4" 1 1/8 ounce #7 1/2 shells weigh about 10 pounds. Go ahead, ask me how I know. That means 500 would weigh 50 pounds. How about drinking water? That weighs about 10 pounds per gallon. Your shotgun weighs about 8-10 pounds. Your food may weigh anywhere from 5-10 pounds if you're carrying enough for a good long time. What about a shelter? Tools? A good knife could weigh a couple pounds... and if you carry any other guns, expect to add an awful lot more weight. You're looking at a solid 100 pounds, maybe more.

Yeah, yeah, you're in the military and you train for that... but when the S hits the F, you are going to need food, water, shelter, etc. far more than you will 500 rounds of shotgun shells. I'd suggest you stick to about 100 rounds unless you have a pack animal to help you carry it.
