My Samsung Galaxy S2 Drains Battery Really Fast And Wont Switch On Unless Its Plugged In

What causes my phone battery to discharge while charging it?

Well, technically, nothing… but that’s because you probably don’t know when it’s charging. That thing you and everyone else on the planet calls a charger… that’s not a charger. It’s just a power supply. It supplies a voltage, usually +5V dc, but potentially a bit more if you have a fast charging device. The actual charger is a bit of hardware and software deep inside your phone, part of your phone’s power management system. All modern smartphones have lots of resources to manage: multiple CPU and GPU cores, cameras, GPS, radios, sensors, etc. If everyone was on at once, your phone might not make an hour of operation. So the power management system is already working to figure out how many of these resources are actually needed.Your battery is one power source, and your power input is the only other. Your phone’s complete operation can be powered from your battery. However, a battery can only charge or discharge in any instant of time — it can’t be charging and discharging. Since we all decided long ago to power all of our phones from USB, there are all sort of power levels available from USB outlets, and phones get hungrier every year. So when you plug your phone in, there’s no guarantee that specific power supply can fully power your phone. That’s why, when the phone is completely dead, it’ll force you to let it charge a little before turning on the operating system. When plugged in and working hard, your phone will use that external power, but it’s probably still going to need the battery. All phone power management circuits allow the phone to use both external power and battery power together. Once the power management circuit has determined there’s enough power to run the phone and charge the battery, it’ll charge. If you want the fastest charge, shut the phone down. That’ll ensure that pretty much nothing but the power manager is running, so nearly all power can be devoted to charging your battery.

Is it safe to use a phone while it is being charged by a portable charger? I own an HTC and was told by a mobile technician to use an HTC charger only. An HTC powerbank is not available in my city. Can I use a Sony portable charger?

It’s best that you don’t use your cellphone while it’s charging because the battery starts draining out, which triggers its heating process. At the same time, while your cell phone is getting charged in the background, it adds to the heating process and the battery becomes hot. This can have ill effects on the battery life, and if the battery is faulty or not a branded one then there is a good possibility of extreme heating issues, which may lead to battery explosion. So, it’s better if you do not use your cellphone while charging to be on the safe side. Instead, use compatible charging accessories like portable USB chargers, wall chargers, or car chargers to avoid any kind of damage.

What should I do if my phone is reverse charging?

I believe you mean to say that your battery is discharging when you connect it to the charger. It really means that your battery is discharging. Simple thing you have to understand is current flows from higher voltage point to lower voltage point. If the supply voltage is higher than the battery voltage, current flows into the battery and the battery charges. If the supply voltage is less than the battery voltage, then the currrent flows from battery to the charger and the battery discharges (reverse charges). The second case happens very rarely. Generally if you try to charge your phone through laptop or computer USB port this happens. Sometimes the USB port supply voltage is less than the battery voltage and your battery discharges. So, it is better to charge battery from wall inlets (230v mains) using your phone charger.

How many hours should I charge my new Redmi Note 5 Pro for the first time after buying it? Should I leave it though it reached 100% or continue charging for battery backup?

It doesn’t matter at all. Nowadays, all batteries are Li-Polymer. No matter whether you leave it and use it until it reaches 20% battery. The main funda is you don’t have to charge it 100% anytime. It’s not even right to do. All battery manufacturers tell you that. So as phone companies.I recommend you to charge it whenever you phone is lying idle. Like If you wish to take shower for 15 min. Make a point to charge it for that period of time and use it for few hours. Then charge it again. This is the right procedure and you don’t have to face any issues over batteries for longer period of time.Neither you have to charge it 100% after you purchase a phone. You can just un-pack the device and start using it until the battery drops at a certain level. Don’t worry Your phone will initiate a command to charge it after a certain level of battery drop..

Is it okay if I fold the laptop without shut down?

If you are using Windows OS then you can find something called Power options(You can find it by searching power options in start menu) and select  Choose What Closing the Lid Does from the left pane and there will be 3 options Shut Down - which clearly shuts your laptop down. No Functionalities will be active, No need to worry about heating.Hibernate -  This is the best if you ask me because the Hibernate mode saves your open documents and running applications to your hard disk and shuts down the computer, which means once your computer is in Hibernate mode, it uses zero power. Once the computer is powered back on, it will resume everything where you left off. Of course this is best if you want save battery life.Sleep - Sleep mode is a power-saving state that is similar to pausing a DVD movie. All actions on the computer are stopped and any open documents and applications are put in memory. You can quickly resume normal, full-power operation within a few seconds. Sleep mode is basically the same thing as “Standby” mode. This is best if you want to use it again after a few minutes.Do Nothing - yeah it does nothing as it says so. The best thing is you can vary these options according to your need that is when the device is charging then you can choose any of the above options, I'd prefer with sleep in this case. when it is not connected to power then you can choose hibernate(unless you want to use it after a few minutes).Coming to your question "folding it cover then will it harm my laptop?" Yeah it will if you select do nothing option. No it will not, If you select hibernate or sleep option.Hope this helps.
