My School Library Account Says I Have A Book Checked Out I Didn

I can't find my school library book?

I lost my book a little more then a week ago.. I just realized it wasn't in my backpack till Sunday. I haven't seen it since the day I cheeked it out It didn't come home with me and I have cheeked every sq. inch of my house for it Is it possible that it was mistaken for a classroom book if I left it at school or was returned to the library?

I returned a library book but they say I didn't?

I used to be the circulation supervisor in a library and deal with situations like this. Our policy was that the patron (you) are responsible for the cost of the book, a small processing fee, and any applicable late fees. However, we always had at least two different staff members check the shelves (where it should be and places it was likely to have been mis-shelved) in case it was shelved without being checked in properly. I also was very willing to renew the book in question for a quite a while, so that we could look and the library and the patron could look at home. I also encouraged patrons to check our shelves if they felt we were overlooking it somehow. Renewing also allows time for another patron to try to check it out. If it's scanned out to someone else, it would automatically be removed from your account.

As for what you do, you can speak with a supervisor about renewing the book/checking it out again so that you can look (even though you know you returned, tell them you will continue to look) and ask that they check the shelves again (and do so yourself). If the book isn't found, you'll have to pay for it or the costs could go to a collection agency eventually. The only thing else, you could do is request a complaint form (and complain about poor employee performance or the policy itself).

Try to remain calm when talking to the staff members, they probably have made a notation of the last incident on your account and will take that into consideration when deciding how to handle your situation this time.

Took book from library, forget to check out? Alarm didn't go off?

I work in a library and know this happens occasionally. All you have to do is return the book when you have finished with it. The staff will check it in on the computer system. They may be confused about why it appears not to have been issued correctly in the first place. But this can happen. They will just be happy you returned the book.

Accidentally stole library book?

So over the summer my school has a summer reading program, and the students are responsible of getting their assigned class book to check it out. I went there on a test day (which we only have to show up if we have to test) and I came in and quietly asked the librarian about the summer reading book. She snapped and changed the subject and asked if i had a test (which I did) and told me to sit down by myself. When I asked her again about the summer book she just shrugged it off and said to get it later. When it came time for lunch, I forgot that I actually had to check out the book, and instead grabbed it and left. Now I just realized that I had to check it out, but I'm afraid to go back and tell them because
a) the librarian is already pretty mean (which is why i avoid the school library)
b) since i have no test that day the school will be angry that i showed up
c) it doesn't help that i'm a freshman

Should I go back Monday or wait until summer is over?

(p.s sorry for the HORRIBLE grammar)

What do librarians do besides check out books?

In the last year IBuilt out a CSS and HTML template for guide creation that worked with our older and poorly integrated Integrated Library System that vastly sped up the process of creating topical guides.Did troubleshooting that identified specific problems in indexing in the integrated library system, including a bug in the handling of dates that resulted in a major version release to fix it from the vendor.Used javascript to inject limits in a poorly defined form creator.Created a tool to create Google Custom Search engines on the fly based on a list of 3000 high performing organizations identified by other staff members.Created a conference presentation on that tool.Created another conference presentation on repression as experienced by American and Canadian academics at branch campuses overseas.Created over 50 bibliographies for staff researching highly technical health systems topics.Taught staff how to use the Zotero reference manager, leading to an explosion of use by our department.I didn’t check out a single book.

Do you have a Library card, do you still check out books and use the Location near you, kids events etc?

I do have a library card, I do take out (physical) books that I pick up at my local branch library, and I do browse there. They don’t have as many books in the branch as they used to, so I also browse online and put holds on books to pick up later. I borrow DVDs occasionally, and stream videos on Kanopy using my NYPL ID; I take online classes with the same ID on lynda[dot]com (life-saving, that!); and I’m excited to take part in their Culture Pass program. The New York Public Lubray system ROCKS!

What's the first book you remember checking out at the library?

The first two books I ever selected and checked out of the library all by myself were Harry the Dirty Dog, and Madeline.I was three years old and we always went to the library on Fridays to get books to keep me busy during interminable Shabbat hours with my Orthodox grandparents. My parents would bring the family over for Shabbat dinner, and leave me there, taking my siblings home — usually I was there from Friday before sunset until Sunday after brunch. And there was literally nothing to do.I would watch Bubby cook. I would sit on the back steps and sing songs to the sky and to neighbors within hearing distance nearby. And when it was dark, after dinner, I would read.I probably read both of those books many hundreds of times. Or more.“Harry was a white dog with black spots…”“In an old house in Paris, all covered with vines, lived 12 little girls in two straight lines…”The cadence, the images, the words, oh — those beautiful words! My love of language began then.

Ripped a piece of library book cover?

I checked out a library book from my school library about a month ago for a book report. They're paper backs and they're new. From the weight of the books in my bag it must've ripped a piece of the front cover off. I taped it backed together, although some have said that's not a good thing to do. Am I going to be fined for this book if it's just a piece of the front cover?
