From your description, I can't decide if I think you were hacked, or if you had an infection of some kind. Getting a message saying "NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND" leads me to believe you had a hardware problem, yet you're managing to use the same harware to get your computer up and running again. This is the procedure I send to people who believe they are in the process of being hacked, which is why it includes a security product, but the first stage is a preventative measure of sorts. I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to hacking, but... I run XP on my computer. If you run a different version of Windows, this path may vary. Firstly, on your desktop click Start\Control Panel\System. Now click on the Remote tab. Make sure there is no tick in the box labelled "Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer". Make sure there is no tick in the box labelled "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer". Now click the Apply button, then click the OK button and return to your desktop. Also, whenever a web site asks if you wish your password to be remembered, always say no. If you run Firefox, click Tools\Options\Security. Under Passwords, make sure there is no tick in the box labelled "Remember passwords for sites". Now click the OK button. If you use a different browser, I'm sure there will be similar changes you should make. Once that's done... Try this: Boot your computer to the Safe Mode menu screen. You do this by repeatedly pressing F8 as soon as you boot up. Once there, use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode with Networking. Continue to boot from there, by pressing Enter. You will now see some drivers being loaded. There will be a pause at some point. This usually lasts for no more than 30 seconds. Now download this package. When you click on the download button, wait for a few seconds and the download box will appear, without you having to enter your name or email address. Save it to your desktop, unzip it...click on start.exe...then click on Emergency Kit Scanner. Wait for it to open (this may take a couple of minutes), then get updates and run a Deep Scan: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/ Hope this helps.

Man that blows. Same thing happened to my Sony VAIO desktop I had, Sony seems to be notorious for this. Anyways basically a virus had worked its way into your system and somehow uninstalled your operating system. Unfortunately you cannot recover your files if this happens, they are gone. However you can repair your computer by reinstalling your operating system. If you have an Windows XP/2000 or w/e Install disk just pop it in and when you get to that black screen it should give you the option of reinstalling Windows. Otherwise if you don't have an OS disk your going to have to buy a new Windows OS install disk, either that or buy a new Laptop. Good Luck.

Ok, you have already got some answers, so i’ll try to explain how this “boot” works.When you power on the computer BIOS will try to load BootLoader (program responsible for loading OS into RAM) from Harddisk to RAM, This Bootloader will try to load OS depending on its configuration.Now, as you have described, there are two possible reasons for the same:Hardisk fail :(or may some connection to Hardisk is lost:- Hardware issue) (Hardisk-HDD)Simply verify Harddisk is ok and working fine. If you have external hardisk case and know how to open harddisk from computer, Try attaching same to some other computer.Second way you can verify that hardisk is working by using Bootable media.
