My Super Just Tried To Let Him Self Into My Apartment Without A 24 Hour Notice

No heat in apartment what can I do?

I've had heating issues in my apt for weeks now, the heat now isn't working at all. I called the leasing office, emailed them, put in work orders online and went to the leasing office several times for the past 2 weeks about my heat not shutting off now it completely stopped working and its really cold where I live and I have children. All the office does is tell me they are aware and someone will fix it and that never happens. I looked up laws in GA and it says you can not withhold rent because of the heat not working but it is mgmt job to insure heat. I'm confused on that because if they are not doing their job why do I have to pay them anything? I called corporate and still no word back, I'm thinking next step is the housing authority but that could take weeks before I get a resolution. I want out of my lease this place is super expensive and terrible. This is not my only issue in the unit. Any legal advice?

Maintenance guy entered my apartment for a non emergency while I was sleeping?

to JD: maintainance men are given the keys to your apartment! I am sure her door was locked!

That being said, if it makes you feel better, I would get a latch lock that you can use to supplement your bedroom door handle. That should be allowed. Also, if its allowed, I would add a chain lock to your front door. Those locks can only be locked from the inside when someone is there. so if you are there and vulnerable, no one can get in.

I am really sorry to hear that happen and I would talk to your landlord. It does sound like a simple misunderstanding on their part, but I know how you feel. A couple of years ago when I still lived at home in an apartment I was coming back from school by myself and found the door to my moms apartmetn open and the voices of strange men inside and it scared the crap out of me. I ran outside and all the way to my neighbors and didn't go back until I knew my mom was home. I knew it was just maintainance guys but they are MEN and we are WOMEN and they should know that we would feel uncomfortable alone with strange men.

Lease violation for unauthorized occupant ??

So they turned up, decided your guest was living there from the interaction they had with them at the door and sent you a written contract violation.
First you read your contract, what notice period does it say they are legally required to give before they inspect or send maintenance, most places they legally have to give 24giurs minimum notice, in so far as a number from the fire extinguisher, that could be a simple form posted for you to fill in and send back.
As they have sent the notice in writing it is important you reply in writing and keep a copy of it, stating clearly the person was a visitor and is not an occupant and there is no violation of your contract, also state ( as per contract) the notice period they have breached ( if they have) and that they are in violation of the contract as you are legally entitled to "peaceful enjoyment" of your property.
Then get yourself a cheap motion activated CCTV camera set it up inside your property so you can see if anyone just pops in, when you 'pop out'

My boyfriend doesn't help around the house and it's driving me insane. Please help?

In the beginning of our relationship, I moved out of my dads house because of an argument and I ended up staying at my boyfriends house. I helped out over there without complaining and doing the best I can do. My dad and I are a lot better now so I moved back into his house and my boyfriend is staying with us.

I love that my boyfriend and I live together but he doesn't help me with the house work. If I ask him to do a simple thing like help me with the dishes or sweep the floor, he'll b***h and do it half a**. It gets to the point where I'll be like, "nevermind I got it because I don't want to deal with your bitching" and he'll walk off and watch tv or go to sleep and he'll ask why I'm mad. Or I'll let him b***h and I notice that he didn't do such a good job (fur still on the floor) and I need to do it all over again.

I go to school full time and I also work almost full time. My boyfriend works full time but his job isn't as hard as mine. He can sit down and sleep at work while I need to stand up the whole time and deal with customers.

I understand that he works overnights because I used to have that shift but he will sleep the whole day. All he does is sleep, eat and watch tv. He doesn't do anything to help me around the house. I cook for him, clean, wash his laundry and provide for him. Yeah he'll buy me food here and there but that's it. My dad doesn't ask for rent, all he asks is that he helps with the yard (whenever possible) and to try to find a better job and a car. I've told my boyfriend that so he knows what'll make my dad happy. He doesn't help with the yard. Wait, he helped once when he saw my dad doing it. He doesn't care about finding a better job (he's 35 and working at McDonalds....). His car is broken and we've been using my car for the past 6-7 months. He doesn't help much for gas either.

I have 3 dogs at my house and yes, they shed fur. He's always complaining that fur gets in his eyes or in the food and drinks. Well, if he helped me more then there wouldn't be this problem.

I love him and I want to be with him but idk how much more I can take. I would tell him to go back to his parent's house while I stay here but he'll take it as me breaking up with him. He's thought that before. I've talked to him nicely and I've also cried because I don't know what to do and he'll ask why I'm crying so I'll tell him but he doesn't change.

Advice? Anyone?

If I am out, my landlord enters my room without permission and goes through my things. I put a lock on my door, now she's asking for a key? What are my tenants rights?

If I go out, my landlord will go in my room without permission and go through my things. I put a lock on my door, now she's asking for a key? What are my tenants rights? This reminds me of when I was in college in 1971–2.When I was in my first year of college, a bunch of us were sharing rooms in so-called “approved” off-campus housing (AKA firetrap) in Towson. There simply wasn’t enough housing for all of the students who wanted it, and were desperate. The stars were so narrow, that you could have almost become intimate passing a housemate on the stairs. My roommate and I had to complain about the heat several times to our landlady before she turned on the steam radiator in our room. She said that wshe thought we didn’t want any heat because the window was open. We finally had to use a hammer to get the window unstuck—and no we d idn’t break it. Finally, our landlady had no more excuse for turning us blue. Then one day, one of the young women said, “Mrs. B. is snooping through the drawers when she cleans.” Another one said, “I know how to fix that!”She started a fake diary, and put it in one of her drawers. In one entry, she added that our landlady was snooping every time that she cleaned. The snooping became a thing of the past.Hopefully, there is at least a county Landlord-Tenant Commission. At least now, you can look these things up on the Internet. We didn’t have any recourse that we know of in the early 1970’s. I urge you to look up this information ASAP. I think in my county, they even have some people who will help if mediation is required. So look up your rights immediately. A shared house is a different situation, and can be more difficult that if you are only renting a room. But as a tenant, you have some rights. too. This also assumes that you are doing nothing illegal yourself. Good luck, and before she asks again for that key, DO YOUR RESEARCH!!

Can you get away with having a cat in an apartment that doesn't allow pets?

I tried that once. A neighbor saw the cat peeking out the window and I got a very nasty eviction notice. They gave me 24 hours to get rid of the cat or they said they would bring in the sheriff and dump all my stuff on the front step. I don’t know if they actually could have done that, but it was an emotionally traumatic experience which required a 7 hour drive in the middle of the night to my parents so they could keep the cat until i found a new place to live. And my parents hated cats, so that was a really fun visit, because the no cat clause was in the lease , I lost my whole deposit.Don’t. Just don’t. You cannot possibly keep them off all window sills, and guarantee they never have a running episode or play loudly. you will get caught. It will be ugly. Move somewhere where you don’t have to spends your days worrying whether the cat will peek out between the curtains while you are at work.Sometimes landlords can be talked into allowing a cat if you offer an extra damage deposit, or even extra monthly rent. All my apartments have started out “no pets”. but the others, I talked them into changing their minds. That one ! I tried to fool them.don’t do it

How do I balance my 14 month old and keeping the house clean?

My heart goes out to you. I'll share some simple things that I've learned. Its impossible to keep a perfectly clean, sparkling home with a toddler running around. Things get cluttered in sticky in a matter of mere hours. What you should do is lower your standards a bit. Then look for opportunities during the day to get things done as quickly and simply as possible. Simplify. When your daughter goes down for her nap, get out the Clorox wipes and do a once over in the kitchen, load the dishwasher and take out the trash. Then pick up her toys and run the vacumm. It should only take about 15 minutes if you are consistent and do this every day. Then head upstairs or into the bedrooms, collect dirty clothes into a hamper and make the beds (another 10 minutes tops). Finish with a spray of air freshener and a once over for the bathroom(s) with the clorox wipes. Pour bleach into the toilet(s) and let sit. Then open the windows and air everything out.

Go to the local florist and buy a bouquet of inexpensive flowers and get out a vase. Voila, a "clean" and organized home in less than 1 hour a day.

I'm a mother of 2 children: ages 3 and 15 months expecting #3. Its tiring keeping up yes, but it can be done. Just do a little every day as it needs done and your house will be pretty "clean" and you'll never have a burden on your hands. That's what my Grandma told me growing up and it stuck with me. I never spend more than an hour a day (during nap time) cleaning and our house is always pretty clean.

Don't be hard on yourself. A child your daughter's age needs constant interaction. You are doing the right thing by making her your first priority. Dust bunnies go to sleep, I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep. That's a line from one of my favorite poems and you can let some things go. If you need to delegate some of the chores to your husband and be honest about when you are feeling overwhelmed. See if he would pitch in in some areas to give you some relief.

I hope that helps and happy spring cleaning to you!
