My Supervisor Is Always Late

What to do about a coworker who is always late?

As you are new - and obviously not his manager or his supervisor - and as you have reported it many times - there is nothing more you can do.

What you can do is stop reporting it like you are the hall monitor or some newbie tattle tale that wants to look good. And by looking good - you make someone else look bad.

What you do is deal with the situation - without running to management complaining about it any more. They are aware of the situation and what they do - or don't do about it - is none of your business. There may be more to it than they tell you.

What you do is continue to be on time. Do your job. If you have questions - you save them for when he does get there. Do what you can until then.

Keep in mind that most managers know what is going on in their area and don't need you to constantly remind them. Keep in mind that you can be let go at any time as well as anyone else.

Also - keep in mind - being 5 minutes early is not such a much. Certainly not something to brag about. One is expected to be at their desk and working at start time. Being 5 minutes early - I would hope gives you time to take off your coat, get your coffee or whatever and be on duty exactly on time. As you seem to expect of others.

So bottom line is stop your running to manager and complaining/tattling or whatever else you are doing. You are not doing yourself any favors by constantly doing that. You are becoming an irritant. Let your work show how good an employee that you think you are. Let the other stuff take care of itself. You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes.

Why is my co-worker always late to work?

First question that I have for you is do you and your co-workers have to clock in and out everyday. If so then there should be a tell tale documentation trail that shows the he/she is coming in late. If you don't have to clock in and out everyday and you want to bring this issue to upper level management then I would advise you to do so. Bringing this to their attention could cause a little conflict in the work place. It depends on what is right and what is wrong for you. Your values play an important part in this. You can voice your opinion and state facts indiscreetly or you can come right out and confront the situation. Either way, if management doesn't act on this then you have to bring it further up the chain. I do not believe that someone should be getting paid for work not done. I would address the issue with someone in authority and see what happens. You might have to face your co-worker in the future but your beliefs will pull you through. Coming in late and getting paid for the time that you are not there is a form of employee theft, they are stealing time and time is money. Good luck with your situation.

Why is SEPTA always late?

Among other reasons, they don't have enough buses on the lines for the amount of service they need, especially during rush hours.Because they don't have enough buses, there are dozens of people trying to get onto an already jammed bus. This prevents the bus driver from being able to pull out of the stop, further delaying the bus.It just occurred to me that you may not be talking about the buses; when I lived in Philadelphia, the suburban light rail line was not part of SEPTA. My understanding (from my friend who lives near one of the light rail lines) is that track maintenance has closed some stations, rerouted some trains, and otherwise caused a grand inconvenience. In general, Philadelphia is understaffed and underfunded. I left it in 1991, because the city had to file for bankruptcy after Standard & Poor's rated a bond issue as junk bonds. This left them with no money to pay police, fire fighters, teachers, etc. in previous years, to balance the budget, they had sold the courthouse, the main library, the municipal services building, etc.Apparently, the city is still effectively bankrupt:Philadelphia, 5th Largest City in US is Effectively Bankrupt; Mayor Holds Closed Meeting With Wall Street to Discuss Asset Sales

Why am I always late to work?

If you want to stop being consistently late then you must aim to be EARLY, rather than ON TIME if you NEVER want to be late again.**If you don't want to be late, you must be early**. Rarely do people get to their desired destination exactly “on time’.Punctuality is one of those attributes that can take you a long way in your life. It not only shows how much respect you have for time but other people as well. When you arrive late for a pre-planned or scheduled appointment, it gives away an impression that you either do not respect the other person or their time and you consider your time more important than anybody else’s.1. Not understanding what it means to be on time. As they say in the military, to be on time is to be late and to be early is to be on time. Walking in to a 10th meeting at 9:59 is not on time. Walking in at 9:45 is on time (Better yet, arrive at 9:30 and use the intervening time to catch up with emails or news- see below).2. Planning for the best case scenario not the worst case in terms of travel times. Make sure to include finding parking, getting lost, and allowing for traffic. For instance, to go from my home to downtown for a 9am meeting, it can take anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours due to traffic. So I have to give myself 2 hours and know there is a good chance I will be there 1 hour and 20 minutes early. So in those cases, I plan on arriving early, finding a coffee shop, checking up on emails and grabbing some breakfast. So I get a reward for leaving early either way.

My employer always pays me late? what can I do?

Am so fed up of my employer. I just cant quit before I find another job. He pays me late. I work in Los Angeles CA. I am a lawful resident and I work on hourly based job at a convenience store. What can I do when my employer pays me 3 days late or even sometimes 5 days late. For example if the check is due on 1st.. he would pay me on 3rd late evening... its not once or twice.. it happens always.. because of this my bills get paid late and everything gets messed up...

My boss is always late with my check by at least a week.Twice my paycheck has bounced, what can I do?

file a complaint. find yourself an attorney that will help on contingency.

look for another job.

more and more of this kind of stuff happening every day.

the companies won't quit till labor once again starts seriously getting togther and unionizing.

sure labor unions misused much
of their power, but before the coming of the unions, 16 hour days 7 day weeks and very low pay were quite common.

we are headed back that way very quickly.

organize.

and prepare for one hell of a fight.

read your history of the labor movement.

tough times indeed.

but none of us would have what we have without them.

if we do not stay ever vigilant soon we will be back to where we were before the unions.

in fact we have been sliding steadily backward since reagen busted the air traffic controllers' union.

Why does my boss always stay late?

If he's there late and you don't think it's because he has that much work, it could be any of the following ...

In some cities, especially London, people will do this to avoid travelling during rush hour. Or maybe has an awful commute anyway - I worked with a guy who lived in Berkhamsted (Herts) and worked in Maidenhead (Berks) so he needed to be in the office by 7:45 so his journey didn't take 2.5 hours.

Or, it could be that he has problems at home and is trying to avoid his family!

Or, maybe he is up to something dodgy - maybe he's doing something that he doesn't want to do when you all are around.

Or it could be just to make a good impression on his boss - but then if he's leaving last, his boss doesn't know exactly how late he stays anyway.

Are there bosses or managers who are always late?

There are a lot of managers and bosses who are always late. The ability to lead and showing up on top are two different things.  I won't talk about how being late is fairly disrespectful to the people attending the meeting, and what that means to the team as a whole, I'll focus on explaining, why a manager could be late to every meeting, while still being promoted into their current position.Often managers are promoted because of their expertise in their knowledge domain, or that they exhibited great people management and leadership skills. However, at the same time the increase in responsibility means that they are in high demand.Unfortunately with a modern matrix organization, you need meetings to collaborate, decide & synchronize the team. This means that unless they have the ability to schedule their meetings with gaps to walk between meetings to meetings, as well as the usual nature breaks, it is hard to be on time for every meeting when they are back to back. Not to mention they are at the mercy of the meeting facilitator who may be good or poor and that could determine the length of the meeting. So, it's very likely they were prompt prior to being promoted and even with the best intentions they will always be a couple minutes late just due to logistics.Outside of that, there are organization's culture is just about 5 to 10 min late for everyone, in which case being late is not sufficiently of an internal social faux pas that would be detrimental to that person's ability to advance.

How do you coach the always-late boss to be punctual?

Sometimes management get some leniency of which you may not be privy to. Although theoretically , one should respect everyone's time and be punctual, it is not necessarily a requirement. For example, I use to come in “late” when I spent the night working on a project; Or there were days I chose to start working at home then go to the office. There are situations and factors you may not know of.If you are a subordinate and it impacts your function, then you say something. If not, it is basically none of your concern.

My neighbor wants to carpool with me. He is always late and my boss is really sensitive. what should I do?

The only way out is to change your office timing (hypothetical scenario).Tell him your office timings have been changed and you will leave 30 minutes earlier than you usually do ( you can manipulate the 30 min time module as per your convenience).Don't deny him a ride but ask him to be ready 30 minutes earlier than regular timing. In this way Mr late will be late but you will be on time. Car pooling successful. Mr late happy, you happy and your boss happy.P.S- 30 minutes window is just an example, you can choose whatever timing is convinient to you. But 30 mins time looks quite professional than 5,10,15.
