My Tablet Uses Its One Gb Memory And The Sd Card Is Empty

Which is better for data backup, USB Flash Drive or Memory Card?

Carbonite works well, but yes - expensive.

For local data protection, you can purchase a relatively inexpensive 1TB external drive and backup to that. The built in Windows backup software will do, or you can grab a good free option like Cobian Backup. Keep in mind that external backup drives can have the half-life of a mayfly. I don't leave mine connected for much more than doing backups.

Don't do thumb drives. If your goal is long term storage they *do* have the half life of a mayfly.

(EDIT: Let me be 100% clear here - SD, thumb drives and other types of solid state memory drives/cards degrade over time. Repeated read/writes to these drives eventually reduce their usability. When they are close to full, their performance stinks. Sometimes just inserting and removing them can cause catastrophic data loss. It's not an everyday occurrence, but I mention this because I've seen it happen more than once. For random storage, who cares? But once you bring the word "backup" into this, it's a different situation.)

If your system supports it, consider adding a second HDD as a RAID 1 mirror. This is not a backup, but a redundant drive that protects your data from the failure of a single disk. If your hardware does not support RAID, then scratch that.

For cloud protection, you can find a free option that will do for a small amount of files - usually 5GB. Look at Mozy, SugarSync, DropBox, Google Drive (15GB), or Windows Live SkyDrive (25GB). They might not be all automatic sync storage, but it's free storage online.

Using email as a poor-man's backup will work, but keep in mind that free email accounts can be subjected to a random banhammer. It's happened to me once with an account that I rarely used, but I had to pray to the Google Gods to get them to bring it back from the dead.

How much you are willing to pay and how much risk you are willing to accept might depend on how put out you'd be if that data was forever lost.

What if I use an SD card with a bigger memory than what is allowed for a smartphone?

A few things can happen, it can be used up to its max spec listed capacity and corrupting the rest of the sd, it may use all of it but only as listed space by the spec…. For the most part with newer android 7+ models you can format the card as adoptive storage instead, kbut really a lot of the max capacity rules can be over lapped, I'm only supposed to have a 200 GB max SD, I have a 256 GB acting as adopted storage giving me almost 300gb in total with no problems, when I formatted it as normal storage I only got 220 GB on it, adopted gave me full capacity and being rooted I forced it to the boot manifest so I could add further partitions to the new default emulated storage, 12gb partition as a ram swapfile increasing my overall ram to 9gb instead of 3…. A 50gb partition as a web server, another 50 for backups and ROMs, music, etc there's still 0ver 100gb available… internal storage partitions I shrunk down to, just 1 GB for all my system files and 31gb of which 15 is used for apps and gapps, having the extra space and swap file allowed drastic changes to the internal partioning to allow a bigger card…. Although I don't need to I'm gonna try upping up to a 512gb then. A 1tb

How does a memory card/SD card work?

Most among us know that computers store data in Binary (0’s and 1’s) or in layman terms, there are two stages OFF & ON respectively. So we need such devices that can store such bit patterns. Those devices are what we call “Transistors”(MOSFET’s) in Electronics. It’s basically a three-terminal device with terminals named as Source, Gate, and Drain.Gate Voltage(Vg) controls the flow of charges between source and drain. Gate Voltage should exceed a particular threshold voltage(Vth) for a flow of charges. So in the binary sense, If Vg>Vth (charges flow, binary 1) and if Vg

My tablet has a 16GB SD card but it says I don't have enough memory to download anything else. What can I do?

Will a memory card of 16GB or 32GB or higher slow down/affect a smartphone or a mobile phone in general?

From my experience, it doesn't matter at all. I have a Moto E2 with a 32GB card and it works just fine. If you want to be careful, stick to the limit prescribed by the manufacturer. But honestly the best way to find out these things is to try it out yourself. Worst case scenario is it doesn't work and you end up with a spare SD card. Not that bad a deal I would say.UPDATE: I am now using a Moto X Play 16GB with a 32GB SDHC Class 4 Memory Card. Recently the phone had become too slow to the point that I was contemplating buying a new one. Since my wife has the same phone but was not facing any such issues, it occurred to me that it might be because of the Memory Card. So I moved all the apps back to internal memory -> no real difference. Then I removed all the photos (13GB of them) and could instantly feel the improvement. Therefore, I rescind my earlier statement that “it doesn’t matter at all”. As mentioned correctly by Sovit Mundhra, it is the photos that take a toll on the performance. Props to him for that.I am going to buy a Class 10 card and follow his advice of making more folders. Hopefully, the engineers at Android will figure out a way to solve this problem in the future.
