My Thumb Finger Is In Bad Shape Cz I Got An Accident;what Should I Do

What happens if you don't get a Tetanus shot after getting cut with rusty metal?

Maybe nothing. But you could get tetanus, and once you get it, even if they manage to save you, you may still wish you had died. Dying of tetanus may be the most painful way to die on the planet. Here is a painting done in 1809 of a person dying of tetanus. Painting done by his doctor. The position is called opistothonus. Why does he look like this? Your muscles ‘fire’ to contract, i.e., shorten. Then a chemical in your muscles is released to relax your muscles. What the tetanus toxin does is to prevent that chemical from being released, so your muscles fire, contract, and NEVER LET GO.Back muscles are stronger than stomach muscles, so you arch your back.If you are in really good shape, too bad, because you leg muscles can contract so strongly that they will BREAK. YOUR. THIGH. BONES, the strongest bones in your body.Imagine a ‘Charley Horse’ in every muscle in your body, 24 hours a day, for days on end.And there is almost nothing that can be done to spare you. Eventually, your diaphragm contacts, and never lets go, so you quit breathing.Getting to this blissful stage often takes 3 days. 3 days of the worst pain imaginable.(BTW, we know the chemical that’s released, and could give it to you, but then, you would stop breathing, which presents it’s own set of problems)Personally, I think the vaccine shot is the way to go, but hey, to you anti-vaxxers out there, it’s your call. Just don’t do this to your kids, please.BTW, the bacteria that causes tetanus, Clostridium tetani, is a common soil living bacteria. It’s in the ground everywhere. It’s NOT rust that causes tetanus, but a rusty nail indicates it’s been in contact with the soil for a period of time, and thus likely has C. tetani on it.C. Tetani is an anaerobic bacteria, meaning that Oxygen is poisonous to it. If you get a scratch, tetanus is very, very unlikely, because of the Oxygen. But a puncture, like from a nail, creates an oxygen-free atmosphere in the wound, just perfect for C. Tetani to grow and thrive.Tetanus can be ‘treated’ today, but 2/3 of patients still die, and those that survive typically spend 6–8 weeks in the hospital, mostly on a ventilator, with about 3–4 weeks in a induced coma, followed by 4–6 months in rehab. Personally, I think getting the vaccine is easier.BTW, there is a variation of this disease called infantile tetanus. New borns can get it from, for example, non-sterile scissors used to cut their umbilical cord. I will spare you the pictures.

Am I considered handicapped if my right hand's index finger is half cut and I am a righty?

No. I am missing a thumb and I wouldn’t be considered handicapped. The only way you could support that notion if you had a job before this happened (an accident, I assume) that required you to a full use of an index finger, and now with only half of that finger you can’t perform this job. I have a hard time imagining such a job, but maybe there’s a situation like that. Also, if we are talking about disability, and if you look up the definition, it has to impact a MAJOR function of life (like walking, talking etc). Losing half a finger does not belong to this category.

I have a thumb laceration with dermabond/glue on it that is turning white.?

Yes, it is normal. I just had (2 weeks ago) a laceration @ top of wrist to right under my thumb YOUCH!!!! I did nt want to go to the hospital on a Saturday night, so I blew it off. I had no choice but to go on Sunday morning-and they said I could have used 5-6 stiches- but they just put the dermabond on it. It throbbed like a mother for 3 days- the first day was ok- then it did turn white/then yellowish. Not the infected yellowish-but the healing-ready to start to scab yellow. Must have hit a nerve-cuz it is sort of numb and still, occasionally throbs.I called the ED- and they said the turning color was normal from the glue. So-unless it gets really red, draining a pus like substance, gets really red and or warm- you should be ok. If it starts to look at all infected-or the throbbing does not get better or gets worse-call your Dr., or return to the ED. I also kept mine covered with 2 gigantic band-aids and that self stick brown gauze- but left it open at night. Don't ya hate it when these freak things happen??? Good luck..AND WATCH FOR SIGNS OF INFECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS... Wash it every day-very gently with an antibiotic gentle soap, or phisohex cleanser, pat dry- and do not re-cover it till totally dry.

What are the causes that I woke up with my thumb joint feeling painful?

Overuse of a computer mouse can do this. As can prolonged writing.

Can you die if a piece of glass remains in your finger?

I had a piece of glass stuck in my foot for over a year. My podiatrist told me not to do anything if it wasn't hurting, and that it would eventually “work it's way out.” A year later, it had been bothering me a little, especially if I wore high heels, and I had a little FSA money to spend, so I had him remove it. He said the pain was probably coming from the scar tissue that had been forming around it, more than from the shard itself. The “surgery” took about 10 minutes and I was fine to walk right away. It was fully healed in about a month.

I have a defect in my pinky finger. Is this likely to cause my rejection in SSB medical test? It doesn't affect my grip. But it's a defect.

Alright…First of all tell me its by birth or you had an accident which left you with this. Now, during Medicals they would be asking you raise your arms with fingers pointing to him/her.If you can manage and not get caught than you are good to go.But yeah this May or May not get you out of the medicals. And yeah they would be putting continuous pressure on you to know whether you have any problem or not.You just need to stay calm and say a big NO.Once you declare any problem if yours which acc to you doesnot bother you, they are gonna get that thing checked deeply. So avoid that.Even I did a mistake when I was asked again and again about any family medical history.I declared that my father have diabetes. They marked it down and I had to go through two addition blood tests to check my glucose levels.Although I cleared it anyway..Goodluck!

Can I still play volleyball with a slightly healed sprained finger?

Yes, you can definitely play volleyball with a slightly healed finger by taping it to the next finger or working out a way to put less force on the injured finger. Just be informed that sometimes playing on a injured finger may cause a long term side effect like a one I have encountered. I got my finger hurt a lot of times and played volleyball with it, but once my little finger got injured by a block, not a major one. So, I played a tournament I couldn’t miss by tolerating some pain. Although the pain diminished in a week, my finger is still out of shape after 1 year from the incident.
