My Till Was Down At Work By

My till was short at work today, how come?

So I work at a fast food restaurant and I operate the drive thru till. For some odd and very weird thing, I was short $30 on my till. We always start and count the till to about $150 and now that I ended my shift to close out my till, I am short $30 for reasons unknown. I am confident enough to say that I am not responsible for this and my curious question is would they ask you to pay the shortage? If so, would it be out of my paycheck and is it legal? (I live in Canada btw, BC to be specific.)

Do you have to pay a short till?

So, I was forced today at my job (McDonalds) to pay a short till. My McDonalds, like most, is a franchise. And today my till was short $7 and my store owner forced me to pay the deficit. Is this legal? If it is not, please give me as much information as possible because I do not think this is legal. My manager says she has paid over $1,000 due to tills being short. I could understand if it is over $20 or something to that extent, but for such a small amount, shouldn't that be a write up? The more legal jargon the better. If you just say "Yes it is illegal" or "No, it is legal" that is great to hear, but I need lawful proof to back me up, or bring me down.

My brakes don't really work till about halfway pushed down?

I have a 98 Toyota Camry and when I slow down, the brakes don't really start to slow the car down until my foot has pushed the pedal about half way down

If I'm at a stop light or something and my foot is pressing the brake pedal down, when the rpm's go up while idling, the car will start to roll very slowly

This really concerned me when I was in a parking lot last night and I had my foot on the brake pedal about halfway down and I never realized I was rolling backwards really slowly and ended up backing into somebody's car

I don't know if I need new brake pads or what

Thanks

My till at work was $20 up today. I feel terrible about it. What do I do?

Marie, I don't know what you are asking me. Are you saying the you charged someone too much money? What did your manager say? The money was still there I hope. I know mistakes make you feel terrible, but most managers don't get that upset unless it keeps happening.Like I said, I don't really understand what happened, but it sounds to me like you shorted someone 20 dollars when giving change.Continue being honest. Tell your manager your sorry. Be more careful when dealing with money. Don't try to make change and talk to people. Stay focused on your job. God Bless You!

Think my mcdonalds till was down 50 dollars?

i was counting my till the other day at work and after i counted it i found 50 dollars and added it onto my ammount it ended up right but i dont know if i already counted that 50 so i dont know if my till was the right amount. Do the managers count your draw after you do to check if it is right ? im going to tell them that i dont think it is right but i dont want to seem like i stole the money because it is my first job and im kind of nervous ?

Why is my till always short?

This situation is a "sticky" one....(pardon the pun) :)

As a new employee it sounds as if you have been made a "scapegoat" for someone elses dishonesty.

First of all-it is not fair of your employer to expect you to be able to run a register after watching a video...I can watch videos until my eyes fall out but until I have actual hands on training I can't perform tasks-especially cash registers because there SO many!!!!

I am not doubting your honesty or integrity here at all. I think that it is commendable that you are asking for help and are willing to get to the bottom of this. However, at 16 years old, most of your supervisors are looking at you as "just a kid" and that is sad. Being labeled as a thief in the customer service business will be tough to get "off" your record. You can tell people that you got "set" up but when it comes down to it, other potential employers will only see the word "thief" as will be written in your employment folder.

You have a right to count your drawer before your shift starts-especially when there is a problem with shortages...if you think that it is one of your immediate supervisors this may be tough but it may be just enough leverage when he/she sees that you are wanting to "clear" your name. If they refuse to let you because of this, this may be an indication that they are involved somehow with the missing money. Also I can sympathize with your position, you are only 16 and (only because of your age) you lack the experience dealing with this. Another option is to make an anonymous phone call to your company headquarters and explain the situation. I would suggest doing this from a pay phone because most businesses now have caller ID.

(As a retail supervisor for many many years-yes I did have access to ALL of my employess passwords).

If this can't be resolved, you would be better off giving your notice and find another job elsewhere. There are thousands of companies that would be more then happy to have a honest employee working for them.

Again, what you are doing is very commendable-it sounds as though you have a good head on your shoulders (nice GPA!) and you are willing to work....this will go far in the business world! Good Luck. You can email me if you have any more questions.....

How can I sleep better after work? I work from 5 till 10 at night and can't fall asleep after my shift. I stack shelves and work in a brightly lit store so when I get home I dream about my job and can't settle down enough to sleep. What should I do?

“How can I sleep better after work? I work from 5 till 10 at night and can't fall asleep after my shift. I stack shelves and work in a brightly lit store so when I get home I dream about my job and can't settle down enough to sleep. What should I do?”I worked a similar shift for years, in a convenience store…with a twist. Saturday and Sunday I worked 4am til 2pmthen Monday and Tuesday I worked 2pm til 11pm. I REALLY had problems with sleeping! What worked best on Mondays and Tuesdays was to keep my lights very dim in the house…and it took me several hours to “unwind”. If you think about it, most people don’t come home from bed and immediately go to bed. To expect to do that yourself is unreasonable.Go home, don’t have the lights any brighter than you absolutely have to…do a few chores. Make a list of things that you have to do tomorrow, for work or personal…write them down and then push them out of your mind. Maybe go for a relaxing, leisurely walk. Have something to eat, read for a bit, or watch some TV. Then take a nice warm shower and go to bed. It might be 1 or 2 am, but you’ve had time to unwind, you aren’t bombarded with bright lights…it’s a more “normal” way to end your day.

I was short-changed by a con artist and I was short on my till. My manager made me pay $80 out-of-pocket to cover it. Is this legal? I live in Texas.

I don't know if the practice is legal, BUT I’ve been in the same situation.Ten years ago, I was working the drive-through window at a fast food place in Destin, Florida. The wait in that line was about an hour that day because it was the beach during spring break. This guy ordered an 89 cent taco and waited an hour for it. When he got to the window, he handed me a dollar. When I gave him his change, he told me he'd handed me a $20 bill. I was crazy busy and didn't want to hold everything up to have my manager count my drawer, so I gave him change for a $20.Later, when things slowed down, I asked the manager to count my drawer because I wanted to find out if the guy conned me. He had. My manager gave me two options: get written up or pay out of my own pocket. I chose to pay.Why did I choose to pay? Because I made a dumb mistake. I allowed myself to be conned. Nobody waits an hour for an 89 cent taco. I figured I'd remember that lesson if I had to pay for it. And I have.

How does your cat react when you come home from work?

When you come home after a long day at work, there’s nothing better than a warm, cuddly cat standing near the door. My cat, April is a year old now and she has reacted differently throughout the different stages from kitten-hood to adulthood but they all lead to the same goal- Greeting the human.Cats get to know you’re coming home even if you are a couple of hundred meters away. When I climb up the stairs, I start hearing urgent meows from behind the door. When I open the lock and get in, she drops on the floor, rolls about showing her belly, walks over to the scratching post with an erect tail and scratches religiously. I stand there while she comes back, gets in between my legs, wrapping her tail around a leg and purring. She will follow me around meowing till I take a seat so that she can plop on my lap and adjust herself there for a pampering session. Needless to mention that I’ll get groomed by that sandpaper of a tongue too!April recognizes the sound of vehicles. So if my partner happens to come by and she recognizes the sound of his motorcycle, she will jump down from my lap, meow loudly till I open the door and let her out. She will go downstairs and greet him at the top of her voice.I believe cats do not get much recognition in terms of how well they greet their owners as much as dogs do. Fact is, if you show love, your kitty will give it back to you! That, my friend, is pure happiness!
