My Toe Does This Painful Thing

What do I do with a numb toe and painful thighs for two months?

My toe started being numb more than a month ago and it’s still numb right now.. it doesn’t hurt it’s just numb. It doesn’t look swollen either. Also the same leg that this toe is on started feeling tighter in my upper thighs. Which started around the same time as my toe. Maybe a little before. But now it hurts to lift my knees and it’s hurting near my knee and my upper thigh. Could these two be connected somehow and does anyone have any advice?

Why can you stub your toe, feel so much pain but then your toe doesn’t snap?

The toe bones don’t snap because the load placed upon them in that situation is compressive: i.e. when you stub your toe at normal walking speed, your toetip hits a solid surface and is shoved back toward your ankle, pushing back on the bone lengthwise. Bones are adapted to take a lot of pressure in the lengthwise direction; much more than that produced by “stubbing" the big toe at walking speed. (If it happened while running flat out, or you forcefully kicked a large rock with your bare toes, the result might well be different.)You still feel a lot of pain because your feet are provided with a lot of pain receptors, and a lot of force was applied to your toe joints, albeit not sufficient to break bones.

Other than stubbing your toe, what things are unbearably painful for less than a minute?

A few years ago I was hit with a sudden flame that caused first and second degree burns to my forearms. I really didn’t feel anything as I dialed 911 and was rushed by ambulance to the nearest burn center, but after about an hour (as I was answering endless questions from a flunkee who wanted proof that I was insured and an American citizen) I started feeling the pain and demanded a painkiller.Weird but true. Fortunately all I have left to show for it are some discolorations where new skin grew over the old. And I am grateful for this because it could have been much, much worse.

How do ballerinas stand on their toes? Does that hurt?

The technique you are talking about is called dancing “en pointe”. The reason ballerinas are able to dance that way is because they are wearing special shoes. As you can see, they are flat in front. That makes it possible to stand on their toes in the first place. Also, the front of the shoes is super hard, often out of flexible wood, to give the foot stability. It indeed can hurt sometimes to dance en pointe, but the results you get after training are absolutely worth it.Also, there are ways to reduce the pain. Inside those shoes, you can wear pads that make your feet not have direct contact with the hard inside. They look like this:These are rather old fashioned ones, more modern ones are out of silicone.Other girls use band aids in order not to be in pain:Another super important thing to avoid pain is having a fitting shoe. If the shoe doesn't fit perfectly, the risk of getting injury and being in even more pain is a lot higher.Basically, dancing en pointe is surely hurtful, but a beautiful thing to do anyway.

Why is pain often delayed? Like when stubbing your toe?

There is somewhat of a small “ shock “ factor involved , also can on how engrossed you become with activities you are performing. You may be one of many people who are told ; “ Hey man ! You're bleeding ! “You look at your arm and discover several cuts , and scratches , bleeding , that you were totally unaware of , no pain , not noticeable , until you were told.I have done that , more times , than I can recall.I had an accident in 2015 , I was held in by the seatbelt , unable to free myself , I asked the EMS crew to cut me free , and I would drive my car home .The EMS tech said “ Son, You Ain't go’in Nowhere !!! ( Southern dialect) for , Sir , I am serious , please remain still , until the “Jaws of Life “ can give us access to free you !Unknown to me ( shocked & conscious ) I was hanging upside down from my seatbelt , the entire front end of my car GONE , and I thought I would drive it home , NO PAIN , until about an hour later , when the shock wore off at the HOSPITAL.MUCH WORSE , the next morning in the hospital bed , stiff , sore , 5 broken ribs , collapsed lung , BUT 24 HOURS AGO , same injury , I just felt UNAWARE of the SERIOUS INJURIES.Shock , sometimes Surprise , can delay your response to the insult of pain .Different people have different sensitivity , some responses can be learned to be ignored , or delayed until time allows you to personally review , recollect , restore , & Recover !

When you stub a toe, it seems to take a long time for the pain to register. Wouldn't evolution have provided instant notice that injury may be occurring?

No.Evolution is stuck with what the organism inherits from its ancestors…… so the nervous system is a series of compromises, and one of them, is that we still use chemistry to send electical signals across synapses. If designed like a machine, to be intelligently taking a faster route, the way we wire things normally, then, the notice would basically be at light speed.Instead, for example, if you stub your toe, the nerves route through your genital pathways… etc…and don’t go in a straight line. So, 0.1 to 0.3 seconds of delay are minimally involved for most people.:D

Why does my big toe hurt in my sneakers?

It all depends on the type of sneaker and any issues that you may have with your feet. First thing to do is to make sure that the sneaker is the issue by noticing exactly when your big toe hurts. It sounds like you may have done this already.Next thing to do is to work out whether or not you have a condition called hallux limitus (reduced range of motion in your big toe or hallux). You can test this by pulling back your big toe with your hand and seeing how far back it will go. To enable normal walking the big toe should dorsiflex (bend upwards) by about 70 degrees. If your toe has significantly less movement that this, then you have hallux limitus. If hallux limitus is the problem then you should see a podiatrist as they will be able to put a wedge or an insert into your shoes to prevent the big toe from going through too much stress when you walk. Another way to fix this is to get a pair of shoes with a “rocker bottom.” This means that the sole of the shoe flexes upwards at the front. This way the shoe will do the work for your big toe and the pain should stop.If hallux limitus is not your problem, then it might be that the shoes are wrong for you. Shoes should typically flex quite easily through the metatarsal head area, which is the area just back from your toes. They should be stiffer throughout the rest of the sole.Another problem of course is that the shoe is just the wrong fit for you. If the shoe is too wide or too narrow then it will likely cause you some pain.Other conditions such as gout, osteoporosis arthritis and many other arthritic conditions could also be the cause. You will normally have pain elsewhere if you have arthritis, but not always. If getting the right shoe does not fix your problem, then you should see a physician or a podiatrist to give you the right advice and treatment.

Do Calluses on the bottom of your foot cause pain?

i've had some thing under the ball of my foot adjacent with the big toe.

and for about 3-4 weeks or so i've just dealt with it and it messed up foot print when i walk.

and i google up corn/callus/plantarwart blah blah eveyrthing diabeites/infection. i tried to figure it out myself. It seemed most likely a plantar wart. So i got the sacrylic acid and all, so i been putting on the acid. And i get impatient with things so i would just start picking at it and eveutnally a big white chunk of skin layering over the whole thing would peel off and i even burned the damn thing with a lighter cuz it was pissing me off.

Of course it would start heating up n wuld cause pain n i would pussy out from going any further.

Anyways i went to the doctor today cuz nothing was changing with the damn thing.
And he shaved away at it and it HURT so bad. he would squeeze it like a zit and it hurt so freaking bad.

And he was intrigued because if it was callus it wouldn't hurt. he was amazing and how much pain it caused me. So he thought maybe there is something int here. like a splinter or glass. So he kept shaving at it and he stopped and said by there i shoulda hit something, so there was no splinter.

So his last conclusion was it doesnt look like a plantar wart and its not a callus cuz the pain. So it must be a infection.

So im relived its not HPV on my foot. PHEW. but now i got a damn infection? forreal... i dun even look bad. And he wants me to take pain killers +antibiotics. he's not a foot doctor and my foot doctor appointment is in like 5 days

but after re googling and stuff anda fter what the doctor said.

I still think this just might be a Foot Callus.

Now i gotta know if whether a Foot callus causes pain or not. Cuz when u squeeze mine like its a zit, it fucing hurts. But i can walk on it, now that the doc shaved it, it hurts more when i walk, but before it was fine when i had shoes on. Barefeet on wood at home was uncomfortable.

Thanks guys!
