My Turtle Has Soars In His Mouth. Can

If my turtle keeps his mouth open all the time does it mean its hungry?

it could be begging for food or attention: babies can eat once or twice a day. do you actually see it eat and are you giving it the right food.

it could be gapping: sign of a respitory infection. can it submerge. does it swim straight or side ways. is it active.

it could just be weird

you'll have to watch the turtle and keep ruling things out. go to austinsturtlepage.com and do some reading they have really good care sheets and a turtle health section. read up on respitory infections.

also watch your temp. baby turtles need to be nice and warm. a good 80 degrees.

I have a red eared slider turtle. opening her mouth ALOT. HELP ? ?

I have a red eared slider turtle. a baby. im not quite sure how old she is. her owners before us said they had her for around 4 months or so. She's very tiny less than 4 inches. A little bit bigger than a quarter. We're had her for a month now. We bought a an aquarium kit from wal mart that came with a tank rock filter n heating light 60 Watt. I don't think its UVB. We also bought a critter culture night heat bulb not it doesn't say UVB either. Says 75 watt. She is eating good. No loss in appetite. She eats mini-krill from Tetrafauna reptomin. She is swimming less. Basking more. Sleeping more. The is no noise coming from her noise or mouth when she breaths.I looked inside her mouth both NO sores or abnormal. She has a good size basking area for the fact she is so small.I have also tried pellets .mini shrimp and freeze dried meal worms but all she will eat is mini krill I have given her bananas. She likes. I don't have a heater for the water but the water is half way in the tank. We have a size 10 gallon i think. She opens her mouth every minute or so. . Her eyes look fine. We take her out to play or check on her on the bed and she more active. I think thats because shes a little scared. We also have another RES that one is a little bit bigger same people gave us that one. Its more active. Eating more right likes the shrimp and worms. Doesn't like the pellets or krill. Swimming LOT. That one like to explore. Same tank very playful. I just really need some advice. Vet is not asked right now. No money - have been spending it on these turtles! Extra money is one them I also got these fake planets from wal mart I didn't know they glow in the dark could that be a factor? I'm sorry important very worried about this turtle. No bubbles on nose or mucus. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME

Orthodontic Turtle Shell?

Lol! Funny name. I think he meant a plastic retainer that goes on the roof of your mouth. A "turtle shell" is exactly what they look like, too. A litttle pink turtle shell. They can interfere with speech a little. Making it hard to say the letter "S." By making the shell thinner in the alveolar ridge area, there is less speech interference.

My turtles skin is cracking why?if there is a vet on or someone who has had a similar prog happen pst asap.?

OMG if people are going to answer a serious question get it right would yah. Don't answer if yah don't know...Could be a matter of life and death here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When they shed their skin doesn't crack IT JUST SHEDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT DO YOU HAVE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK??

The bottom of the tank should be lined with wood chips and peat moss or a dirt and sand mixture OR bare bottom to prevent skin cracking. Many turtles prefer to have a shelter. Depending if it is a land or aquatic turtle............

If the bedding is too dry it causes cracking of the skin and poor health. (LAND TURTLE)

Land turtles need land with water to drink.....Aquatic need water to live in with a basking area to get out of the water!!

DO A WATER CHANGE ASAP.... (IF AQUATIC)

IS THE TURTLE GETTING THE PROPER DIET.....

The reason for this is that THE turtle IS stressed for some reason. The stress can in turn cause them to 'self crack'. 'Self cracking' means that their skin will peel and they will become much less active, though they usually feed normally. When this happens it takes a week or so on average for them to return to normal.

Please please help me my turtles dieing?

its a sign that your water quality is pants. If his eye is sore the rest of him is probably not great either.

you need to keep the tank clean and make sure you are providing sufficient heat/light. Have you got a good filter and do you change the water regulary. I do mine every week.

Also he will need something to clear up the infection and the vet is the best person to get it from.

Whatever you do this time, make sure you get a money box to save a small amount for necessary vets bills in the future. You owe it to your turtle to provide it with what it needs.

Hope he is feeling better soon.
