Studying with migraines?
I think you should consider going back to whoever is treating you for the eye thing and getting documentation that the eye problem makes it hard to read text and causes migraines. Then you could take that to the disability services office and request materials in alternate format -- preferably electronic text that you could run through a screen reader, because that's easier to navigate around in, but even a human voice reading on tape might be better for you than what you're doing now. That way you'd be able to do the reading with your eyes closed or in a dark room, listening. You might also want to go to your professors and explain that you have migraines and that sometimes in class you will close your eyes because of the photophobia, but it doesn't mean that you're not listening -- and then make a point of participating in class on days when you have your eyes closed so they don't think you're really sleeping. If the disability services office is supportive, you might also want to ask them to provide you with a note taker because it is hard to take notes with your eyes closed and with the vision problem. As far as studying with migraines, I don't know what to tell you. For me it comes down to eating something nutritious when the migraine first hits, because I don't know when I'm going to be able to eat again, avoiding fluorescent lights (which are my major trigger -- and note that more and more places, including private homes, are fluorescent-lit these days) and shiny reflective surfaces whenever possible, and giving up when I get to the point that I'm absorbing nothing. That's not much help to you, I know. If you spend a lot of your time on campus, you may also want to see whether the student health service has a place where you can lie down in the dark for awhile to see whether that helps. If you're only on campus for classes, that may not be something you need. Good luck. It's not fair that it's this hard. Long-term, online classes may work better for you so you could schedule your work around the migraines, given that it is impossible to schedule migraines around the work.
Why do classical Musicians hate "Rock" music?
I'm just curious, I currently study classical Guitar (in hopes of becoming a better "Rock" musician in the process) and it seems as if every one of my professors decides they're going to hate on "Rock" or "Pop" music as if it's an invalid art form. My question is simply, "Why?" I'm mostly curious, because I love both classical and Rock music, with my true passion and heart headed for the rock world, why do they hate on it so much?
Is it impolite to blow your nose in a restaurant?
Who wants to hear the sound of expelled snot or see it going slimly going into a tissue or hankie at a place of eating that is public. Go to the rest room for Cripe's sake! Spare the rest of us, enjoying our meals! Even privately, there should be the discretion of leaving the table, to get rid of the snot!
As a “concealed gun carrier”, have you ever accidentally had an unfortunate situation where someone said, “HE’S GOT A GUN,” or anything similar?
A few years ago my wife & I went on a double date with some really good friends of ours to a sushi restaurant. This couple is successful, educated and just really solid/fun people. In fact one of the only things we don’t have in common with them is that they are liberals & don’t believe in guns as a result. So naturally we don’t ever discuss politics.Anyway we are having dinner and enjoying ourselves and I get up to excuse myself to the restroom and my buddy sees my Glock 23 on my hip as I’m sliding out of the booth. He knew I had my conceal carry permit but I guess being ignorant to guns he assumed I wouldn’t have it on me all the time? He asked, “Why did you have to bring that to dinner”? I said, “Why what’s the problem” as I sit back down, instinctively knowing this was going to turn into a discussion. He proceeds to tell me he doesn’t believe in concealed carry and wishes he would have known I was bringing my pistol to dinner with them because that may have changed his opinion of joining us.I was pretty floored at this point, but remained calm and wanted to understand why he felt this way so I asked what was his main concern? He said, “If someone comes in the restaurant with a gun threatening harm I don’t want you drawing your pistol on him and bringing attention towards us, maybe putting us in the line of fire”. Openly amazed at what I just heard from my long time friend I asked, “Let me get this straight; if a criminal came in here right now with a gun you’d rather not have your licensed and trained friend in possession of his own legal firearm and able to protect you, but instead would rather be at the mercy of some lunatic out of fear I would draw attention to us”? Dude looked me square in the eye with a straight face and said, “exactly”.My wife looked at me and saw the confused bewilderment followed by a welling up of disgust for what I’d just heard and quickly defused the situation by changing the subject. To this day I love that friend like a brother but I’ve never looked at him again with the same respect I once had. The ignorance and intolerance about guns and their licensed operators in our Country is damn scary!
