Why do we need to celebrate festivals apart from the traditional reasons?

Festivals, apart from being traditions, are a great way to renew and refresh ourselves. Festivals infuse refreshing air in our life. We meet our old acquaintances, friends, relatives whom we haven’t met for months/years or at least send them greetings via social networking etc. Festivals also bring with them old sweet childhood memories………they are a great way to recall what we were and how far we have come in our lives. In short, they connect us to our former selves and also to others. It is during festivals that we socialize and break the monotony of our lives. According to human psychology we need change at least every 15 days or a month in order to maintain enthusiasm and for good energy levels. In today’s stressful times, it is very necessary that we get away from our pushing and pressing lifestyles and have some unapologetic and non-guilty pleasures and fun. Festivals, give us an opportunity for all this. In my personal opinion, we should never leave any opportunity to celebrate, whether it be festivals, birthdays, promotions and whatsoever. In fact, I would say not only we should celebrate the festivals of our religion, we should celebrate festivals of other religions too; Diwali, Christmas, Eid…….celebrate them all. Dress up, socialize, indulge in goodness of sweets, cakes, chocolates and have fun……because Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (You get life only once).

Why do we Indians celebrate so many festivals? Is it not worth it?

Indians does not celebrate much festivals. If you take individual state they have festivals connected to natureBut when all the cultures are connected as Hinduism, the need for politics arise and individual based festivals introduced into our society. We never have the habit of celebrating a death of a person but now all are in our society.so many jeyanthis too comes due to impact of Vishnu worshipers.Issue is it is not worth to celebrate festival which is almost alien to a land. For example Diwali. I do not know how much culture is connected with Narakasura and still not clear to whom he does the damage. If so why entire India has to celebrate his death?

Do you think a religious festival should be celebrated by everyone as a national festival? If yes, then why?

No. By definition, it’s a religious festival, generally kept to a specific religion. Those who don’t celebrate that religion shouldn’t have to take part in the festivals. As well, in the amendment to the Constitution of the United States, it firmly outlines a division between church and state. To make religious festivals national celebrations violates that tenet.

What are some FUN French Films?

Really good suggestions in the other answers! From them I particularly love and recommend Amelie and the Science of Sleep. In my answer I'll try to stay focus on "films of recent vintage, and have no other purpose than to be entertaining with a capital E" as asked, even if my favourite comedies are often mixed up with other genres. So here it is: comedies, only comedies.I'm surprised no one said this one yet, but Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2001) is one of the most famous French comedies released not too long ago. It is absolutely hilarious and almost everyone in France has seen it. In fact, I still haven't met anyone who didn't at least appreciate it. You don't need to have read or seen any Asterix before.La Cité de la Peur (1994)Ok, this one is a bit old if you're going for newly released. It's a cult film: some people love it and some others don't...! Be prepared: absurd humour, terrible puns, huge sense of parody are what you have to expect.Storyline in short (according to IMDb): "A second-class horror movie has to be shown at Cannes Film Festival, but, before each screening, the projectionist is killed by a mysterious fellow, with hammer and sickle, just as it happens in the film to be shown"OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006) + OSS 117: Lost in Rio (2009)The "exploits" of a French secret agent, OSS 117, in Cairo in the first film and in Rio in the second. Despite his mysogyny, racism and narrow mind, OSS 117 always finds himself successful in his adventures and love stories. I love these films for their humour, their sense of derision and their aesthetic (e.g. pastiche of James Bond movies with the infamous scene where OSS 117 dodges every bullet)Otherwise, if you're looking for movies in French language, here is an awesome French Canadian comedy: Starbuck (2011) Ok, this one is not only about comedy, it's also emotional. But I hadn't laughed out loud in cinema like that for some time!Storyline in short (adapted from IMDb): At 42, David lives the life of an irresponsible adolescent... until he discovers that the sperm he provided to a fertility clinic gave birth to 533 children...! 142 of them have filed a class action lawsuit to determine the identity of their biological father, known only by the pseudonym Starbuck.
