Name And Surname For My Main Character

I need names and surnames for my book characters?

My genre of writing is usually YA/ Chick-Lit, but I've decided to write a book series where the main characters are witches and wizards, I guess you can say like the Harry Potter series. I have a few names for the witches, but I am stumped with the wizards and surnames period. I need a few suggestions for names (boys and girls) and surnames. It doesn't have to be crazy sounding but something unique, like Hermione and Draco. I like the surname Malfoy too :)

A few girl names I have:
Sade
Sylar
Maia
Avalon
Azalea
Blake (for a boy)
That's all I have. All help is appreciated! Thank YOU!

Names and Surnames for my characters ?

I write a lot and I always have trouble naming girls. I know how you feel.

The Blonde: Madeline Leigh Dawson- goes by the name Maddy.

Autumn Raine Marley- Marley is the last name because I'm listening to Bob Marley and you said she likes singing. Autumn Raine would work well as a stage name too.

Hmmm, so the third is half Korean, quarter French, quarter Italian? Hm...Francesca after her Italian grandfather, Francesco Di Natale, who was theoretically an artist himself. Di Natale, because it's pretty sounding, means something like of Christmas, I think. Middle name...something French perhaps? Francesca Anabelle I think sounds nice. I'm not overlooking her Korean background, but from my experience, many of my Korean friends born in America have very American names.

The fourth. The girl who fits in better with boys. Likes sports, whether it's watching or playing. Doesn't understand the other girls she's friends with. Raised by a single father and four older brothers. Doesn't have to work hard to be really pretty. Lucy Ann Williams, who goes by her initials LA because Lucy Ann is too girly for her taste.

Hope that helped.

Making stories - help with characters' names and surnames?

I really need help with this. I have 2 sub-characters which are related in family to the main hero,(I haven't name the character yet) of my adventure story. The sub-characters' names are Hipter and Hermia, (are these names ok?) Hipter is dark magicain grandfather of the hero wishes to first kill the hero but at the end, he tries to kill all of his family, which makes him the main evil villian of the adventure. Hermia is the caring mother of the hero, who runs away to escape from her father, Hipter so that she can care for the hero.

The problem is, I don't know what to call the sub-characters' surnames or names, (I'm not sure that their names' are ok.) Can someone help with these names please, try to make them exotric(sp?) names. And also, please note that I don't need help with the hero's name as I'll make one over time, thank-you.

Is there a good tips for giving characters last names?

Thanks for the A2AIs there a good tips for giving characters last names? Some writers like to make a “character bible” wherein they name every possible thing they can think of about their characters. If you do this, I suggest you pull from surnames of the regions the character’s ancestors are from.I also recommend you do that if the character’s heritage is important to the story.I have been known to open phone books and pick surname at random. This is harder to do with electronic phone books. (And I usually end up picking a name listed four or five spaces away from the one I put my finger on…)Sometimes you want to find an exciting name like Flash Powderburn, but sometimes you need a subdued name. Keep in mind what kind of story you are writing. Will the name catch the reader’s eye and “kick them out of the story”? If so, maybe you don’t want to do that.Maybe you want to have a message with your story. (My English teacher always said there were messages to the stories, but I don’t know many writers who did that.) You may consider a name that carries certain connotations, double meanings, or maybe is even just similar to another word that does. Like “Morris” for a character who is always morose. (Okay, bad example, but I just came up with it off the top of my head.)

How do screenwriters come up with character names and surnames?

I’m not a screenwriter, but I do write fiction, and here’s how I generally come up with character names. For the first name, I usually decide how old the character is, then determine what year they were born. I go to websites of baby names and find popular baby names for that year, and scroll down the list until I find one that I like for the character….Absolutely the best answer.Screenwriting has changed a lot over the last 10 years. In some ways it has become a lot more competitive and tougher to break into. There’s more money in it than ever and anyone with a keyboard can sit in their room and type up a script. However as methods improve we’re seeing a lot of last generations screen writers fall behind. Combine that with the ever driving demand for entertainment fueled by services like Netflix and we have more openings than ever. But if you’re getting started with screen writing you need to seperate yourself from the rest of the pack. If you haven’t seen it already this looks at the change in methods and gives you the audiobook of Save the Cat which has been the ‘must have’ for screenwriters over the last 15 years: How Young Guns in Screenwriting are Winning. – Talz Mag – Medium

What are some original names for book characters?

They would cease to be original, wouldn't they?I advise you to rethink originality. Unless you're writing scifi or fantasy, characters ought to have recognizable or vaguely familiar names. Tolkien had his own world of languages and elves and dwarves with class-consistent names - Galadriel is very Hebraic to my eyes. George R. R. Martin often uses common names with modifications like Eddard, Brienne, Lysa, Mircella, Petyr. Even long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away the main characters were 4-limbed creatures with the names Luke and Leia. Frank Herbert kept a lot of middle-eastern cultural words and concepts in Dune. One key to a strong protagonist is relatability. Naming your main character Gharnetik'allihm isn't going to do much to endear him to your human reader. If you're world-building a foreign culture, give it some consistency and ease of attachment. Notice how Japanese generally words follow syllables of one consonent and one vowel, giving it a recognizable cadence? Or how Germans have a particular phonetic structure? Fabricate and follow new conventions in your world-building.If you're writing realistic fiction, give normal, relevant names to children of normal background. Give less normal, but still realistic names to those with atypical parents (I knew a kid name Sunshine once. Parents were hippies). I've written a character with Native American blood with a culturally-relevant last name and Western first name. You wouldn't want to read it if his name was Stabby Slashanddash.

Can you give me a cool character name for my novel?

Well, whosoever asked this; first of all kindly mention the type of character whose name suggestions you want. You can get varied suggestions depending on what type of character you are interested in (it can be comic, action, romantic, melancholic, foolish, any genre as such). As for suggestion,if I had to name a fictional character, it would be :(ABHIHAR ALURAM).Reason: Abhi-Jeet is too mainstream.(Hence Abhi-Har)Alu(potato) is the most commonly used vegetable in food dishes and like wise, I want my name to be appealing to the common people. How ‘s that for a name?

How should I address my main character, by the first or by the last name?

It is really up to you but at least be consistent don’t call her Mary sometimes and Jones other times. People could get confused and forget that it is the same person. Also make sure it fits the story. If you character is in the Military, there is a good chance that they go by their last name. You can make their first name something that gets revealed. Maybe it’s a name they hate like it’s a man named Marion Smith. So he only goes by Smith or Smitty and its one of those fun character reveals that their first name is Marion. You could use the first name as a weapon against your main character. Maybe the villain is the only one who uses his first name and the first time they meet in the story he goes, “Hello Marion.” Now you gave given a twist to your audience. Maybe you leave it as a cliff hanger at the end of a chapter. Now you just revealed a piece your characters backstory and used it for dramatic effect. Now people will keep reading cause they want to know the story behind how Mr Tough Guy hero is named Marion.

Main character needs a late middle age name, which one sounds best?

I had an idea for a story last night just before I went to bed. I'm not going to give any details about the story, but basically it is set in the late middle ages.
My main character's surname will be Rolfe, which means peasant, as in those days your surname described you or your profession.

Now there are a few choices I was considering, but can't decide which sounds best with Rolfe. (The ones with * are the most common ones)
*Henry Rolfe
Hamond Rolfe
Fabian Rolfe
Edwin Rolfe
*Simon Rolfe

Other surnames that I was considering is: Foreman (looks after pigs), Nash (Dweller by the ash tree), Payne (Pagan) and Walter (Dweller by the water).

The personality of the character does not affect the name. But I don't want him to be part of a strong profession. The year will be just before Knights Templar is destroyed (1307) and will span till just after the Peasant's revolt (1381) and yes, he does obtain a form of immortality. But I'm definitely not giving away anything about the plot or characters.

Any help will be appreciated.

Sincerely, indecisive. =)
