My name is Dadi, but it sounds very similar to "daddy." How can I modify my English name to eliminate confusion?

Bear with me while I share some stories of the Name Game to illustrate different ways you can think about this.Humor.My last name is “Cohen.” Seems simple enough. Gets pronounced and written as:Coe-hen, Coe-heen, Khan, Cotton, Cohan, Cohn, Collins, Cone…That last one? I dressed up as one of the Saturday Night Live comedy characters, the Coneheads, one Halloween. When I go in to a classroom to substitute teach or volunteer, I tell students, that it’s pronounced “Coe’ wen” but spelled like an assistant chicken, “Co-hen.” This gets a laugh and breaks the tension.Just the facts.BUT, when I call roll, I tell the students:“Your name is important to you. It’s important to me, too. If I say it wrong, please forgive me and correct me so I can say it right, too. And if I make a mistake, NOBODY makes fun of the person’s name because that is simply rude.”The students love this, and are thrilled when I’m “the only teacher who got it right the first try.”But not always. Poor Declan (De’-Clan), a fine Irish name, but I gave it the Baltimore treatment of Dee-clan’ in my rush reading down the roll. The boy smiled and corrected me matter-of-factly.Some kids laughed and hooted, repeating my mistake, to which I said, “We aren’t going to do that in this classroom because it’s just mean to make fun of a person’s name. It doesn't feel good to you, so don't do that to anyone else.”Half the class exploded in applause. And that was the end of that nonsense. It happens all the time with the easiest of names - is Sherrell pronounced as Cheryl, or as She-rell’? Depends on the girl.Alternate names:I try to remember to ask students to tell me if they have a nickname or a preferred name. Many go by their middle names, some like a short version “Sam for Samuel,” and some prefer the longer version. One roll call, I made it through a complicated Vietnamese name. The kids seemed impressed, but the boy raised his hand and I thought “uh oh.” I called on him.My friends call me “Jack.”“Jack it is, then.”Long story, short.Unless you legally change your name, roll call in a classroom will use your real legal name. You can cope with humor, a lesson in how to say something in your language (your name), or you can say, “My friends call me _____.” Then pick whatever name you like, whether it is close to your real name in meaning or pronunciation, or just a name you like the sound of that you think fits you!Your life, your name—have it your way!

Should I hyphenate my babies last name???

I planned on giving my daughter his last name, but my dad is really worried about it and thinks that I should hyphenate her last name. My boyfriend and I are not planning on getting married any time soon, but I planned on giving her his last name anyways. I only have 9 days until I am due and am really struggling with this. Please let me know some pro's and con's and let me know what I should do. Thanks.
