Is studying in Oxford or Cambridge costly?

Not at all.If you are a really good student you can get a full scholarship with a stipend. For example your University fees and college fees are waived and you are on top of that given 1300 per month as a stipend.A very decent room will cost you 700 pounds per month and it leaves you 600 pounds per month for food and leisure. It’s more than enough if you spend most of your time in libraries rather than bars and if you eat at the canteen rather than expensive restaurants. On top of that you are authorised to work 20 hours per week for most courses which if you get a half decent job you can make an extra 1000 pounds per month. It will give you 2300 per month free of tax plenty to actually save money. No really the people who blame the monetary aspect for not attending Oxbridge are not fooling anyone. They didn’t attend Oxbridge because they could not get in.

What is the most prestigious college in Oxford?

The most prestigious colleges in general (that admit undergraduates) are Christ Church and Magdalen. This is just a function of how grand the dining hall and chapel are, how grand the grounds, deer park etc. Second tier would be any of the other old architecture style colleges, of which there are many. At a non-general level there are some subject-specific perceptions. The most prestigious college for PPE is probably Balliol. For Classics, probably Corpus Christi. For being a bit thick and getting raucously drunk between playing rugger, probably Teddy Hall haha! For what it's worth, "prestige" is a terrible reason for choosing a college. Choose a college because:1. It offers the subject you are passionate about and wish to study2. You think you would enjoy studying at that particular college (at some colleges you just click. I planned to apply to Oriel, but loved Corpus so much when I visited I never looked back)3. You like the size of the college in terms of number of undergrads etc (big difference between Corpus and Wadham)4. You like how formal/informal the college is. At some colleges, you wear a gown every day if you eat in. Others don't have many formal dinners. 5. You like where it is located/what it's housing arrangements are. For example, if you are at St Hugh's and study English, you have a long cycle to the English Faculty Library. And so on. Best thing to do is visit though.

Are there any dark secrets about elite UK universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London and UCL?

I don't know about the first three. My experience of teaching (being delivered) at UCL has not been good. They make their researchers teach. This might sound OK, but it really isn't. Teaching is a skill, and students would be much better off with a pedagogue rather than a very clever researcher that has neither the interest, nor the skill to impart their knowledge.Of course, they can afford to be poor at teaching because they only accept the very best students, who, upon discovering that the teaching sucks, have the ability to take it upon themselves to learn the course entirely independently. It's a shame that it's not common knowledge that the rankings are based on research, and nothing to do with teaching. I guess that once upon a time, those things used to be synonymous, but this isn't the case anymore. Not to mention that pastoral support left a lot to be desired, especially from a university of that size.In conclusion, I don't know if this is the kind of juicy detail that you were after, but it paints a very dark picture, don't you think?

Will the MA in Law from Bristol University in the UK allow me to sit for the bar? Is it the eqyivilant of a graduate LLB just with a different name?

I look at the prospectus the program you mentioned is equivalent to LLB, perviously this type of program is called Graduate Entry LLB program, where you would follow the same curriculum as LLB except you’re not expect to study foundation subjects and elective. You’ll concentrate on studying Law and Legal Practices. For the purpose of England, Wales, the Island of Ireland and Hong Kong it is enough to proceed to Diploma in Legal Practice and qualification exams to practice as a Solicitor and it is enough to proceed to Bar Professional Training Course for Barrister. You need to check with the relevant State Bar on be admitted as an Attorney in one of the United States jurisdictions.MA Law | Study at Bristol | University of Bristol
