Nausea At Night No Vomit

Randomly wake up at night and vomit?

This has happened 3 times within the past year. 1/3 times I puked. The other 2 times I have managed to hold it down, for I am frightened of puking. feeling fine the day before and before I go to sleep having no symptoms. Then randomly I wake up in the middle of the night (4am-8am) very hot, I can feel I am very warm, I stand under my ceiling fan to help me cool down, but I know I'm going to puke, this most recent time it happened last night, I was having a dream I had to puke and I awoke very very hot knowing I was about to puke, I stood under my fans trying to cool down then went to the bathroom trying my best to hold it down, I was shaking very violently and uncontrollably, it was like shivers in steroids, I cooled off and felt cold, then got warmer again, shivering through out all of it, I was scared because I have a fear of vomiting, my stomach also felt very full. I took pepto bismol and after a while (10-20 mins) and quite a bit of burping my stomach was calmed. It felt very weird still. But I managed to hold it down and eventually fell back asleep. My stomach has felt very weird all day today, this happened just last night. I'm not allergic to any foods I ate (I'm pretty sure) I felt fine, besides coming down with something the past couple days, not sure if its a cold flu or fever, but at work the previous 2 days I have gotten very nauseous/loopy for an hour or 2, where its kind of like laughing gas, and I'm just saying what?? To everything because for some reason everything is shocking to me. But I'm not sure if being sick has contributed to the random waking up and vomiting because the second time it happened when I actually threw up I wasn't sick. But anyways if anyone had any idea of what's going on please let me know.

Why do I have nausea at night, relieved by vomiting?

On occasion, I become nauseous and often vomit rapidly after the onset of the nausea. This only happens in the evening or at night. I know it isn't food poisoning, because it has been happening on occasion for 12 weeks now. Anywhere between 5-9pm, I will get extremely nauseous. Most of the time, I vomit soon after becoming nauseous. Although this is a very rare occurrence, maybe every other week, it is kind of annoying. Sometimes I get that post-vomiting discomfort, like the sore throat, sore nose, sore tummy, sore knees, etc. The sore throat and nose is from the burning of the vomit, and the knees from sitting on the tile! After I vomit though, I feel otherwise fine and the nausea is gone.

My PCP sent me for a GI consult. The GI ordered an endoscopy, called an EDG I think, which found nothing abnormal. No ulcers, lesions, strictures, etc. He prescribed zofran. The problem with zofran is that the vomiting comes on so fast after nausea, that there is not enough time to get the zofran to work. Thankfully each time I've been able to get to the sink or toilet. All my bloodwork came back fine, but I got a scolding for my cholesterol. I don't take any medication except the occasional Tylenol and now the zofran on occasion. I don't drink, smoke, and I'm not pregnant.

When it comes to food, I know it is not food poisoning, it happened a few times now over 12 weeks and is not consistent or predictable. I am on a low-fat diet now, but that does not seem to be having an effect. It happens at different times in relation to my last meal. It could be right after dinner, it could be 3 hours after dinner and a snack. I have no problem eating before or after the vomiting, although usually I just have some juice and go to bed after I puke. I wonder if it is something like a cancer that was below the level that the scope went to or something. But probably isn't. Not worried about that though.

So any ideas as to what I can do to PREVENT this from happening, since no one knows what is causing it? Thanks!

What are causes of nausea and vomiting?

Nausea and vomiting are not diseases, but rather are symptoms of many different conditions, such as infection ("stomach flu"), food poisoning, motion sickness, overeating, blocked intestine, illness, concussion or brain injury, appendicitis, and migraines. Nausea and vomiting can sometimes be symptoms of more serious diseases such as heart attacks, kidney or liver disorders, central nervous system disorders, brain tumors, and some forms of cancer.

The causes of nausea and vomiting are quite similar. Many things can bring on nausea. Some common causes are seasickness and other motion sicknesses, early pregnancy, intense pain, exposure to chemical toxins, emotional stress (fear), gallbladder disease, food poisoning, indigestion, various viruses, and certain smells or odors.

The causes of vomiting differ according to age. For adults, vomiting is commonly a result of a viral infection and food poisoning, and occasionally a result of motion sickness and illnesses in which the person has a high fever. For children, it is common for vomiting to occur because of a viral infection, food poisoning, motion sickness, overeating or feeding, coughing, and illnesses in which the child has a high fever. Although rare, blocked intestines can cause vomiting, most typically in early infancy.

Usually vomiting is harmless, but it can be a sign of a more serious illness. Some examples of serious conditions that may bring on nausea or vomiting include concussions, encephalitis, meningitis, intestinal blockage, appendicitis, migraine headaches, and brain tumors.

Another concern with vomiting is dehydration. Adults have a lower risk of becoming dehydrated because they can usually detect the symptoms of dehydration (such as increased thirst and dry lips or mouth). Children have a greater risk of becoming dehydrated, especially if the vomiting occurs with diarrhea, because young children may often be unable to tell an adult about symptoms of dehydration. Adults caring for sick children need to be aware of these visible signs of dehydration: dry lips and mouth, sunken eyes, rapid breathing or pulse; or in infants, decreased urination, and a sunken fontanelle (soft spot on top of the baby's head).

Why do I feel nausea after waking up but I don't vomit? It feels like there's something in my throat that I want to get out and I just keep on swallowing over the time.

Are you pregnant?

Diarrhea, no vomiting, nausea, empty stomach feeling?

Last night I went to bed just fine, at three in the morning I woke up with a vomiting sensation, I went to the bathroom but nothing came out except diarrhea which I had during the day and more into the night mostly after I ate. I have not vomited so I eliminated stomach flu because I had it as a little kid and if I had it now I would be constantly throwing up. I have this empty stomach feeling because everything in my stomach turns to diarrhea and lots of nausea but I just cant figure out what it might be. This all started after I went to the dentist but nothing really happened there that would have upset me this much. Help??
