Is my navel (belly) piercing irritated...?

Belly button piercings take AT LEAST 6 months to fully heal. You should not change the jewelry or take it out ( not even once ) for the whole healing period.

Piercings start to heal from the outside in and they might look and feel healed after a while but they are not in the inside, they are still open wounds that can easily get infected.

Proper jewelry material : Titanium, stainless steel , 18K and above gold.

Your jewelry material is not right and needs to be changed to the proper one.

Proper cleaning methods for new piercings : sea salt soaks ( non iodized salt ) or non alcohol/non scent mild antibacterial soap like Dial or H2ocean spray.
Clean it 2 times a day until it's fully healed.

Never use tea tree oil, peroxide, alcohol or any other ointment on a new piercing. It will irritate the piercing, take away all the good bacteria that are needed for the healing, risking infections and delaying the healing process.

Next time do some research or simply ask the piercer about the aftercare and healing of a piercing before you get it done.

-------------

If the piercer told you that a belly button piercing can fully heal ( and the jewelry can safely be changed ) in 3 months then he is not a professional and he does not know what he is doing.

If he also told you that it's ok to use tea tree oil to clean a new piercing if there no infection there again he is not a professional.

p.s. If you had been taking proper care of your piercing , you wouldn't have to deal with an infection.

How to help an irritated belly button piercing?

A piercing can be sore throughout the healing process and everyone's body heals differently. Most people think their soreness and puss is infection. but usually it is not!

Swelling, soreness, tenderness, redness, crust, and blood are all very normal for a piercing to have. Chamomile is the best for swelling, and sea salt soaks every day with 1/4th of a teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt to 8oz of hot water to keep it clean. Also, don't touch or twist your piercing until it is fully healed which takes at minimum a couple months to heal! (some piercings take longer)

If your piercing was infected it would be producing a darker yellow/green pus that usually has an odor to it.

I would suggest getting Herbal Sea Aftercare. It is the best combination of these two ingredients and each kit has the recommended amount of sea salt and chamomile in each bag, plus includes an 8oz jar. Using Herbal sea as a sea salt soak and then using the tea bag as a hot compress will heal the piercing quickly and reduce the risk of keloids or hypertrophic scarring.

Irritated belly button piercing- help?

Mine got so infected after 9 months and my skin basically pushed it out, I was scared, thought I was dying, I started to blame the people who pierced it but it kinda didn't make since considering it was almost 10 months ago. I have 3 ear piercings since I was 10 and they still perfectly fine so, I had no idea what was going on.
I went to the emergency and it was scar tissue ?!
and to be honest I haven't heard of scar tissue before then so I had to get a long needle stuck in my arm to get rid it.
I cant remember the name of what they injected in me.
But after that, it stopped hurting and now i have a scar there and I have to wait at least 3 years to get it pierced again.

You cannot heal an INFECTION with anything other than antibiotics. If it is a true infection, you MUST see a doctor. Now, if your piercing is simply irritated, there are a few different options. First, make sure that your jewelry is high-quality (implant grade titanium/steel, internally threaded). If it is, make sure that it is appropriately sized. Jewelry that is too small or too large will make a piercing irritated. As for cleaning, most piercings don’t need all that much help. Gentle cleansing with water in the shower and a sterile saline spray once a day(NOT H2Ocean, you need a saline spray that is ONLY water and sodium chloride, like Wound Wash) are really all you should need. Don’t play with it while it’s healing, just leave it alone.
