Neck Pain For 4 Months

Swollen lymph node on the neck for months, what could it be?

A2A, but I'm hesitant to perform medical consults on quora since there's an enormous lack of information, most importantly. However, I concur with the other respondents in that a swollen lymph node may be absolutely benign, for example as a result of a mononucleosis infection. Sometimes a lymph node just stays big, for no apparent reason. The fact that yours is firm isn't necessarily worrisome either; it's their normal consistency. Some things for you to check:- If the node hurts when you press it. If it does, it's a good sign, although I realise the node being there already for 1.5 month may have caused it to not hurt anymore when pressing it.- If the node increases in size- Alarm symptoms are: loss of apetite, weight loss, fever for no apparent reason, night sweats, pain in the lymph node when drinking alcoholic beverages (I know it sounds weird, but it's true)And if you stay worried, just ask your doctor to perform some quick blood tests, like a full blood count and an erythrocyte sedimentation rate.Good luck!

What causes pain months after wisdom teeth removal? What should I do about it?

Pain occurring months after surgery is unusual. To answer the second question first, “What should you do about it?” return to your dentist or surgeon and ask for an evaluation. As to the cause of the pain, it depends on the type of pain, dull or sharp. A sharp pain when chewing, with quick on set and quick to leave, indicates a cracked tooth. Pressure on the tooth in front of the surgical site could result in some sort of damage to the tooth structure. But, this may or may not be related to your surgery. This same pressure could have moved the tooth in front of the surgical site. This movement might affect the nerve connection between the tooth and its nerve or blood supply. The result would be a non vital tooth that could abscess. This can cause a low grade pain that could increase in intensity to a easily identifiable source of the pain.Low grade pain could also be due to root sensitivity. Sometimes the bone on the back side of the root of the tooth in front of the surgical site does not heal to full height. This tends to happen more often as the patient grows older and looses some regenerative healing power. This pain can be hard to locate. It can be diffuse, sensitive to cold, somewhat sensitive to hot, and sensitive to sweets. It can come and go and the pain level can vary. It could also happen with exposed root structure not associated with the surgery. It is possible that a retained root tip could cause a problem. Most of the time these naturally resorb or will remain without causing any problems. On rare occasions they can become infected because they were exposed to the bacteria from the saliva during surgery. Finally, it is possible that the pain is unrelated to the surgery and is coincidental to the healing. It could be a referred pain from the opposite arch on the same side, an upper tooth causing lower pain. Examination and radiographs are indicated to locate the source of the pain.

Neck pain for 4 months?

What could be causing my neck pain? I have been experiencing this pain for 4 months now. I have seen doctors and a neurologist but refuse to take a look at my neck. Only my head. They claim it all to be conversions disorder/anxiety put me on Zoloft. I have been in 2 car accidents my most recent one was 1 year ago. And the other was less than a year before that one. Both times the vehicle was totaled. The first one was a roll over and the second was a rear ended. And I work in a hardware store with continuous heavy lifting.

Here are my symptoms:
Neck pain at base of skull/neck
Pain going up into back of head
Daily headaches
Occasional vision problems
Occasional hearing problems
Occasional numbness in both arms/hands
Lightheadedness/dizziness
Weakness in arms

Everything is worsened when doing excessive heavy lifting and/or continuous bending/squatting. Or standing for extended periods of time.

Is it all anxiety like the doctors claim? If not what could it possibly be?

Severe neck pain after being choked, what can I do and what may it have caused!?

A year ago my ex bf choked me. Don't worry I did report it and have a two year restraining order...the only problem is that after that I always feel pain on my neck and the need to crack it. I put a cold pack and took advil and try to relax it, but it's really bad, I went to an ear nose and throat doctor and he said he doesn't think theres anything he feels inside of my throat, but I'm afraid since it's a year later and I still feel severe pain it may be something else, what can I do to stop the pain and what may it be?!?! Thanks for your help.

Why do I still have pain after 1 month of getting my wisdom teeth removed?

Having post-operative pain one month after surgery is unlikely , the common pain after wisdom tooth removal can last up to 7 days if not infected. Considering the long duration, dry socket which is unbearably painful is also unlikely. The pain could have come from infection of your tooth socket, or most probably from other sources( eg. Decay in another tooth on the same side) , jaw pain after the surgery might also be anticipated.Get it checked at the Dentist today! :)Feel free to drop me any question if you need to know further. Also, visit my website down here about Oral Health Care:Tooth Bright

What can I do if I've had a pinched nerve in my neck for the past three months?

OK, so:-you have an MRI-identified "nerve pinch" (presumably a radiculopathy, no evidence of advanced stenosis, hernia or spondylolysthesis, which may indicate surgery - check your MRI report) diagnosis from a neurophysiologist and a neurosurgeon, but neither of them think it is something that warrants surgery, right?  -They have apparently not given you any prescription for therapy, or they did, and you went, but it isn't helping.  Which one?  If it's no therapy prescription, get one from your doctors, or find a new doctor who will get you some proper therapy.  If it's number two, I'll list some suggestions below. I'm going to GUESS that it's a radiculopathy, where something like swelling, myofascial tension (usually from the scalenes or paraspinals), or skeletal malalignment is squeezing on the C6-7 nerve root, part of the lower trunk of the brachial plexus which innervates the arm and hand.  This can produce symptoms of numbness, tingling, pain, and, if from a trigger point in anterior scalene, swelling of the hand.  This will also cause pain from lifting the shoulder and turning the head to the same side of the problem. The main goal of initial therapy has to be directed toward calming the nerve's signal and inflammation, as well as reducing pressure (the pinch) on it.(scalene muscles' trigger point referral pattern) Now, all of the factors required to release the muscles associated with this kind of problem, such as traction, manual therapy, possible injections of anesthetics or muscle relaxants, postural/ergonomic correction, breathing habit correction, self-care, etc. etc. are going to Have to be implemented and monitored by a therapist and physician.  It is a very difficult area to release effectively.  So, in order to be responsible, that must be my first recommendation:  to find a proactive doctor and great therapist to release these areas,  and then mobilize and strengthen them.  One way to do this is to find an advanced pain management clinic.  Call them, and Google them, and ask them if they do procedures I have listed for your kind of problem.  Best of luck! Thanks for the A2A, Dr. Gluck!

My son is going to be 9 in 4 months, can his adam's apple cause a growing pain in his neck?

The "adam's apple" is really the laryngeal prominence most noticeable in males past the onset of puberty. It's just there because males have larger voice boxes- hence lower voices. In a young boy it really shouldn't be that obvious as a rule, hormones haven't kicked in yet. And no, it shouldn't hurt, nor should it cause any kind of pain. Growing pains are most often restricted to the legs- not the neck. I don't think I've ever heard of growing pains in the neck anyway. There are reasons he might have pains in his neck, but those would be due to muscle strain. If your son has pain in his neck a lot of the time, you need to see a pediatrician to discover what's behind it. If the pain just started, and he's ill as well, in particular if he's having headaches. then you need to see the ER- because a stiff neck and neck pain are also signs of meningitis. But if it's a long term thing in an otherwise healthy child, it's more likely muscle strain for some reason. He may be sleeping "crooked", as my mom called it- with a too soft or too hard pillow. But it is not his larynx, no.

I had a thyroidectomy 4 months ago. I can feel pain sometimes on the part where I had my surgery. Is this normal?

Yes, any scar including a thyroidectomy scar can become tender. Scars naturally develop by getting tight and tender a few weeks after the surgery. Then several months later they soften up and become painless. This process can be sped up by rubbing the contents of a 400 IU unit vitamin E capsule into the scar every other day. This may take several weeks and does not work for everybody.Trigger point injections with 1% Xylocaine using a very fine needle (27 gauge) is another method of softening up the scar. I used to give two or three such trigger point injections 1 week apart until the scar was soft. Often anesthetists who work in pain clinics may do such a trigger point injection for you.

I hurt my shoulder while playing Badminton 4 months ago. The pain is aggravating with time and physical therapy is not helping. My MRI and arthrogram results are normal. I am planning to try a cortisone injection. Would that really help?

You seem to be suffering from Rotator Cuff injury. Instead of local cortisone injection go in for local Platelet Rich Plasma ( PRP - prepared from your own blood) injection. It has got very good results and it repairs the damaged tissues in conditions like Tennis Elbow, Retro-calcaneal Bursitis and Rotator Cuff syndrome. Drugs like steroids do give temporary relief but the pain recurs very soon once you resume the activities.PRP is slow to act but gives long lasting steady results. Many cases of failed surgery for Tennis Elbow and rotator cuff repairs have also responded very well to this therapy which also is relatively complication and side effect free.Consult your Orthopaedic surgeon on this.

Have you ever been through a sudden neck- shoulder pain going like hell? What should be done?

Do not take any capsule without consultant of doctor. If the pain came suddenly then it will go slowly otherwise medical check up is required.Following are the reason for pain on neck and shoulder more than 2 or 4 month:a)Vitamin D and B12 deficiency: It is common in India, out of 10 person from 100 are deficiency of vitamins. For this problem to cure, better to do exercise or meditation.b)Very low level of vitamins will create lots of problems like abnormal Thyroid, Diabetes, Headache etc. Immediate medical treatment should be taken.Solution:Eat healthy food like green vegetables, egg, fish etc.Drink mineral water 4 to 5 litre a day. Most important is physical exercise, running, meditation, Yoga etc every morning.
