Where's the best place to get a mens haircut in Santa Monica?
I concur; it all depends on what price/features you want, particularly here. The traditional barber continues to thrive for one reason - they're awesome. If you know what you want, you get it. Boom, done, everyone's happy. The higher end places lean more towards the creative. They generally have more modern decor, an emphasis on fashion, extras like free espresso/wine/soda and can offer additional services in-house like custom coloring, blow-outs, facials, and a whole host of body treatments.Personally I'm a huge fan of Miakel Bishay Salon near Main & Ashland. It's ~$50 for two shampoos (one pre-cut, one post with the occasional head massage thrown in gratis) and a cut. I followed Miakel from when he just rented a chair to his new salon simply because he is a fantastic guy. Down to earth, always happy to see you, but very tapped in if you (I rarely) want that high fashion look. Plus, super geek cred:, he designed his own retractable low air-flow system to remove the fumes generated by some of the women's styling procedures. Ask him about it - it looks simple and fits the airy atmosphere but is quite clever. Then ask for a glass of wine. He's the best.
