Yes it is possible that the attending physician may feel the need to order up a urinalysis. It just depends on what the specifics are in regards to the case and the patient. If you are wanting to know whether or not the doctor will order up a urinalysis and then analyze it for drugs, then the answer is no, not unless you give consent. When a urine sample is taken and sent off for analysis, it is not analyzed for everything under the sun, it is only analyzed for the requested testing, and in the case of a gastrointerologist, a urine drug screen would not be ordered unless he or she felt that there may be some type of issue in that area resulting in your GI problems and again, if this was the case, they would have to ask you first, and the results could not be used against you in any way, as you are protected by HIPPA and doctor-patient confidentiality.

Primary care physician probably could diagnose that, but HMO PCP's refer to specialists for everything that there is a specialty for. It's just how it's done, and it keeps their malpractice insurance lower too. The Gastroenterologist will also do blood work, probably sonogram your liver, and maybe do another scan. At this stage, worse test could be a liver biopsy, and that probably won't be done unless s/he doesn't get conclusive answers from the other tests and is very thorough. Don't get scared. That doesn't mean it's cancer. They biopsy the liver for everything now. It's just a needle into the liver. Yes, ouch, but they numb you. Elevated liver enzymes can be caused by many things. Mine have been elevated for 30 years - repeat 30 years - and I have no known liver disease, so I don't want to give you a list of diseases and scare you. Somebody else probably will. You say you are overweight? Do you drink alcohol or take medication? Use recreational drugs? All of those things matter to liver enzymes. I don't, but I used to, and that could be why mine are elevated.

Hi, you'll have a hospital gown and undies on, but you will also have lots of blankets on you as well, so don't worry about it! You will be out cold, and they only need to see your throat, so they won't need to even take a peek at you under your gown. You are only wearing the gown so you don't have to worry about your clothes in case they spill something, etc. And do have tylenol (not advil), herbal tea and honey ready for you when you get home. Your throat will be sore for the rest of the day, you will need the rest of the day off because you are going to burp, possibly fart a lot and your throat is going to be sore... other than that you should be back to normal by the next morning!
