Need help identifying a children's song (80's, most likely) involving puns of ocean life?

Yahoo Comunity,

I'm desperately searching for a song from my childhood that I remember only a fraction of.

It's a pun-filled children's song about ocean life. As closely as I can recall, the lyrics contained, "I'll oct-o-push my self right to the shore; there's so much there you can explore" certain and "Just for the halibut!" The track was part of a tape cassette album. The lead singer was female. Unfortunately, that's all I can remember. I've already determined that the song isn't Wet Dream or Lobster Never Flounder or the Hawaiian Fish Song (humuhumunukuapua). And I haven't been able to find any other candidates from either Google or the lyric websites and apps.

Fellow children of the 80's, does anyone remember this song?
Please feel free to comment on this post - even years later - if you have any ideas or resource suggestions.

Thanks,
Simon

They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky. I need help identifying challenges and difficulties the three boys faced?

In the mid 1980's, troops of the oppressive fundamentalist government in Northern Sudan began attacking the Black Christian and animist villages in the south. As their houses burned, their parents killed, and their sisters taken into slavery, over 27,000 little boys fled into the night. Many no more than five or six years old, barefoot and naked, without food or water, began their epic journey that would take them a thousand miles across Sudan into Ethiopia. They crossed deserts and mountains, dodged enemy fire and wild animals and endured thirst, starvation and disease. Less than half survived.
Five years later they reached Kakuma Refugee Camp in dry desolate northern Kenya where they began to learn English sitting under trees and writing in the sand. For the next nine years, living on a half cup of cornmeal a day, they built nineteen schools and dedicated themselves to education. They became known to the world as the Lost Boys of Sudan.
Their bravery and perseverance through unimaginable injustices and hardships is testimony to the strength of the human spirit. Without parents to guide them, they emerged as polite, kind, and capable young men who, despite the odds, managed to achieve the equivalent of a secondary education in what was for most a third or fourth language, English. With over two million of their countrymen killed in the holocaust that is still going on today, in 2001, with still no peace in sight, the United States recognized their hopeless situation and welcomed 3800 Lost Boys to this country as refugees.

Identify an old children's movie from the 90's?

I'm looking for a kid's movie I used to watch. I can only remember one part, though. Some sort of poison was seeping into a forest and young animals were trying to escape. One of the animals was a skunk. That's all I can remember. Can anyone tell me what movie this might be?

Should parents discourage their children from strongly identifying with a particular gender?

Your child’s gender is THEIR gender, not yours. Their gender belongs to them. That means THEY are the expert on who they are, and what their gender means to them. As a loving parent, you observe and guide and teach and encourage.ENCOURAGE, not discourage!Sure, sometimes correction is required, and negative consequences, but that has to do with children being selfish, destructive or unkind, NOT to do with indoctrinating them into gender steroetypes! o.OPart of teaching and guiding is to ensure your child knows that gender stereotypes are just traditional expectations … NOT REAL PEOPLE! If you struggle with that statement, think about it for a moment, how many people REALLY measure up to gender stereotypes, in every facet of their lives? We don’t!Encourage your children to be individuals, whatever that means for them. They will get enough pressure to conform from relatives and friends, public and playground. If they don’t have you encouraging their individuality, who will encourage that for them?As a trans woman who dislikes ALL gender stereotypes, both male stereotypes and female stereotypes, my next advice might be a little surprising. To function well in life and school:• Boys DO NEED to achieve some mastery of male expectations.• Girls DO NEED to achieve some mastery of female expectations.Once again, this is about guiding, teaching and encouraging, NOT discouraging. If they are digging in their heels, and wanting to head in another direction, that means it’s time for them to lead you. That’s how you respect their individuality, and help them feel safe to be who they really are.About 99% of children are cisgender, probably 95% of children are straight. For those who are LGB or TIQ, no amount of discouragement will change that. Discouragement will simply damage their confidence, and damage your relationship with them.If your child is transgender or gender diverse, you don’t need to encourage or discourage, you just need to respect their individuality. This short video shows what that looks like:Zay Crawford - The story of one family's journey to acceptance and understanding of their 12 year-old daughter.

How can Indian schools help in identifying a child’s professional interests? What practical steps would help students in India recognize their potential and explore in the right direction?

I assume that I’m having a small school with budget constraints and I want to ensure that our school helps in identifying professional interests of our students. Here are few things I will do:I will only hire teachers who’re passionate about teaching and having faith in me and mission of bringing a small change. I may not be able to pay well because of financial constraints. But, I’ll make sure that they feel appreciated for their work and feel proud of their job. I’ll love to support them in getting a better paid job by recommending them to places where they’re paid well as money is also important in life.I’ll periodically engage students in team building activities and would try to understand the strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes of studentsWe will have a database of all the students with their skill sets, strengths, weaknesses, etc. It will help in grooming our students. We will get feedback of teachers from students and feedback of students from teachers. I will go through all the feedback with help of a couple of my trusted aides. Then, we will ensure that every teacher is assigned to a group of students for mentoring purposes.Homework will be replaced with volunteering works and all students will be encouraged to do things that they enjoy. We will tie up with credible NGOs who’re working in the field of education. Also, we would ensure that we provide a platform that helps in grooming the talent of all our students. Those who’re good at any skill like Photography, Painting, Writing, Reading, Public Speaking, etc will be provided with ample opportunities through partner sources. We may not have the resources to do these but we can always find a way out as passion supersedes problems. There will be problems and there will be solution to those problems. Every lock comes with a key.The role of a teacher and school should not be to teach but to inspire the students. It has to ignite the young minds and then sky is the limit. Thanks for this thought provoking question Rashmi!

Who is primarily responsible for identifying what a child is most interested in learning?

The parents are both responsible and play a vital part in this.Any parent who is active and spends time with their children will hear and see things to help identify. Some of this insight will come from the questions the child may ask, the pictures they paint or subjects they routinely talk about.Important thing to note here is that both parents are in “listening” mode, allowing the child to speak and not making any biased decisions for them.I would say both parents need to be responsible and provide input since they will inevitably interact in different ways with the child, formulating ideas the other may not have had.One thing is for sure - these signs are not as subtle as you may think! They are usually more profound and carried on through the ages.I have 3 children and after 13 years of parenting, I am still finding new things and do not see this stopping any time soon.
