Need Help With Algebra Questions

Algebra questions, need help?

1.
2x+17=55 -- Subtract 17 from both sides. So then it's....
2x=38 Then divide each side by 2x
x=19

Makes sense because if you do fill in the 'x'
2(19)+17=55

3.
-(x-3)-2(x-4)=7
I like to change it to addition
-1(x+-3)+-2(x+-4)=7 Remember, if theres no number next to the parenthesis it's a 1. Distribute the 1 and the 2.
-1x+3+-2x+8=7 Add like terms
-3x+11=7 Subtract 11 to both sides.
-3x=-4 Divide each side by -3x
x=4/3 I think. I'm not sure about this one.

Hope I helped.

I have no idea how to do this type of problem and dont know where to start. Can someone help me, step by step!

I'll really appreciate it!

Need help with algebra 2 question?

z = 5y - 2x + 9

when x=10 and y=3,

z = 5*3 -2 *10 +9 = 15 - 20 + 9 = 4

Need help with Algebra Question?

Nasty question this one! You really need to use excel or trial and improvement.

The box is a bit like the type you get in the bakers - it's worth cutting 6 squares out of a piece of paper to see how it folds.

The height of the closed box will be x
The width will be 20 - 2x allowing for the 2 cut out squares
The length will be 40 - 3x allowing for the 3 cut outs BUT you divide this by 2 because of half being folded over to make the lid.

The Volume = x((40 - 3x)/2) (20 -2x) = 500

This expands to a cubic
3x3 - 70x2 + 400 = 500

Answer is about 1.75

I hope this helps but nobody else seems to have answered:)

Your grandmother needs your help. She has $50,000 to invest. Part of this money is to be invested in non insured bonds paying 15% annual interest. The rest of this money is to be invested in a government-insured certificate of deposit paying 7% annual interest. She told you that she requires $6000 per year in extra income from both of these investments. How much money should be placed in each investment?

a. Write a system of linear equations that describes the given information. Use x for the number of large pizzas and y for the number of cases of soda the club will buy.

b. Find the maximum number of cases of soda the club can buy if the club decides to buy 7 pizzas.

c. Can the club buy 6 pizzas and 4 cases of soda?

HELP W/ ALGEBRA QUESTIONS?? please. =]?

Question 1..
let x1 to be the height of 1st balloon
x2= height of 2nd ballon
r1= rising rate
r2 = descending rate

Form the equation:
x1(t)= 20t+15
x2(t)= -16t+195
for the two balloons to be at the same height, the two equation which represent their height after t minute(s), must be the same..
hence x1(t)=x2(t)
20t+15=-16t+195
36t=180
the final answer is 5 minutes..

Question 2..
for 1st train, the equation is
8P-84, P=max passenger in a car
2nd train,
6P-10, P= as above

then 8P-84=6P-10
2P=74
P=37.
The equation 8p-84 means 8P= the maximum passenger the train can transport, and the number of passenger on board is the maximum minus the number of passenger that can be fit in more. So, 8P-84 will give the number of passenger at the moment. So is 6P-10.

Hope this helps..

I need help on how to understand algebraic rule of an equation?

To find the rule:Step 1:  Find slope, m, using formula for slope: (Y-y)/(X-x).Take 2 points,(0,0) & (20,10) and plug them into formula: (10-0)/(20-0)=10/20 = 1/2Step 2: Find b , using formula y = mx+bTake m=1/2 and one point, (0,0) and put them in formula:0 = 1/2(0) + b --> 0 = bSo b= 0, m= 1/2.  Plug these into y=mx+b. y = (1/2)x     THAT IS THE RULE. ---Fill in the table:For the first y value solve y = (1/2)(-4) --> y = -2For the next x value solve 5 = (1/2)x      --> x = 10You try the rest....If you have trouble comment.  x should always be twice y.
