How will the Dell Venue 8 7000 tablet be like for gaming and work?
Oh, missed this one, and it's been announced months ago, hopefully it comes out soon. Initially announced for holiday season, but still "coming soon" according to Dell's website...I don't think it will be a gaming tablet at 6mm, but that really remains to be seen. I wonder how they solved heat management. Will probably be great for work. It looks sturdy and according to reviews it's very responsive. Don't see why it shouldn't run all the Office and productivity apps well. And the camera (although we are talking about tablet here) looks great. I can think of several fields where its features would be praised. I kinda agree with Gizmodo: Unfortunately, the world's most interesting tablet also has the world's most boring name: the Dell Venue 8 7000 Series, or Dell Venue 8 7840 if you want to be specific. Just rolls right off the tongue. Seriously, folks, you might want to call it something a teensy little bit edgier if you want to get noticed.I wouldn't say that it will not get noticed, but would market better with somewhat snappier name. Just imagine: "I wish there weren't so many Dell Venue 8 7840 trolls in this thread!" It just doesn't do it justice. Looking forward to play with this one!

However, it is an Intel Atom based Baytrail platform (Dell Venue 7 3741 - CPU), so you can load other OSes into it.Dell has a guide at http://opensource.dell.com/relea... which tells you how to load on a BIOS that disables signature checking.Installing Ubuntu on BayTrail tablets (version 2) may be a good starting point. You will likely need to fold in other drivers; it will not be a plug and play experience. Further, the small RAM and storage of the Venue 7 may make it a less than friendly user experience.

Dell is Hell. Most Dells die within a year. ASUS has never had problems.. ASUS is also known for their tablets. Dell has a wifi error with most of their tablets. I personally would choose the ASUS but the choice is up to you. ~good luck
