How can I lose fat and get fit as a teenager in high school? I'm not willing to count calories or go to a gym.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not an expert on nutrition or exercise, but based on my own experience I can offer the following advice:There are no half-measures. If you want to lose weight and get in shape you have to be fully committed to your goal. That doesn’t mean at all you have to torture yourself, but keep focused and don’t cut yourself any slack. No cheat days! :)You don’t need to count calories to eat healthy - there are changes you can make on a day-to-day basis that can make a difference. For example, choose whole wheat bread instead of white bread, brown rice instead of white rice, grilled foods instead of fried, 1% milk rather than 2% or 3%, etc…Accept that losing weight will take time. It will be hard to ignore cravings and it will be hard to exercise as you won’t see the changes instantly, but don’t give up!Portioning: when it comes to any food, it’s all a matter of quantity. Nothing, even junk food, is bad in moderation. So do eat three meals a day, but evaluate every meal in terms of how much you’re eating. For example, a steak should be 6–7oz., rather than 10 or 12.Snacks: Snacks are good! I’d recommend a healthy midmorning/afternoon snack, such as celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins, or fruit and cheese. Something light and healthy, with a combination of food groups.Variety: Just as with the snacks, variety is key. Make sure you are eating grains, proteins, dairy, etc throughout the day. When it comes to exercise, I have good news - you don’t need a gym! Go for a run around the neighborhood, do push-ups, crunches, squats, or anything of that sort. The key is consistency - choose a target, say, four times a week, and in the words of Nike, “just do it.”I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck!

I need to get fit before school starts in August!?

Really the only way to lose weight is to eat less and excersize more. The first thing is to not drink sugary drinks like vitamin water. They have a lot of calories and sugar that's really not worth it. Also a mistake a lot of people make is eating to little. Eventually you are going to get hungry and splurge. Take smaller servings of food and watch what you eat. You could try running. If you are really new to running start at just 1/2 mile. Then slowly work your way up to a 5k (3.1 miles) or more. Losing weight is hard for some people and on some people the weight just sheds right off, so you have to be commited. No skipping or telling yourself, hey i just ran i can drink a soda. Keep a pitcher of water or un sweetened ice tea. put lemons in both for a cold thirst quenching drink. Look online for low fat low calorie recipes. If you want to get abs for that bikini body first you have to lose some stomach fat. Ater that try doing crunches (again start small and work your way up) If you start with crunhes right away then your muscle will be hidden under a layer of fat. I think thats all, good luck! :)

How is a way to loose weight at boarding school?

You need to make healthier choices during your meals. Hit the salad bar and the vegetables. Go very light on meats, bread, and other carb rich foods like pasta and of course dessert. Skip fried foods entirely (Rule of thumb: you should have no more meat at a meal than the size of your palm or a deck of card. And you should probably have only 2 servings of meat a day.) And don't say it isn't possible to be thinner on the boarding school food. The skinniest kids in your school eat in the same room as you.

And even if you hate running, you can walk. Listen to an iPod or the radio. You need to exercise at least 40-45 minutes, and at least 4 to 5 times a week. Basically, you should plan on getting exercise every day, and if you have to miss a day here and there, because of weather, or heavy studying, or whatever, you can do that. After all, you went the day before, right? and you will go the next day, right?

Yoga is good for you. It will improve your posture, your mind, and your self-confidence. But it won't do much for you weight. For that, you need aerobic exercise, like running (yes, I know), swimming, or *fast* walking. How fast? If you don't work up a sweat and the temperature isn't freezing, you are not going far enough or fast enough. But start out easy, say a mile in 20 minutes. Increase that gradually, over a couple of weeks, to the point where you can do 2 miles and then a bit more. As I said, figure on 40-45 per day.

It's not easy, but the important things never are. I hope this helps, and I wish you well.

What laptop should I get for college (genetic engineering)? I also want it for light gaming and the thinner the better.

Hi Tareck.I recently quoted on the Dell G3 15 Gaming range. You should check it out. Pretty thin for a “gaming” laptop (2.6kg) and can do some light gaming along with options for either i5 or i7 CPU and a SSD or not, depending on your budget. I recommend getting a 3 year extended warranty if possible. Oh and they have 17″ options if you want something bigger too.

Why do guys always go for the pretty skinny girls in secondary school?

I was the same in high school but trust me, when you get into the real world, it'll change. To be honest, I wasn't too bothered with the lack of attention in high school since I was comfortable in myself. I think by working on my confidence I built the basis of how I started to attract other men outside of school. Confidence is one of the major reasons. It also counteracts any pitfalls of being ignored by them as I was happy with myself and didn't need a guy to make me a whole person. Boys that age are also more interested in appearances and how it might look if they got together with someone rather than for the personality. That's ok. Girls can be just as shallow at that age. If you're wanting to do something and wanting male attention now, try a different haircut to suit your face shape. It's not really about the body shape (I'm a curvy lady and I'm proud of it) but rather how you dress your body type. Knowing how to dress is the difference between looking like a sexy vixen and looking like a ripened tomato. If you're not confident with wearing makeup just yet, that's ok. Try buying a concealer that is your EXACT skin match and you can use it to cover up spots and dark undereye area and a translucent powder to set the areas you've concealed. A clear brow gel through the brows can go a long way into helping you look put together and a touch of coloured lip balm can help your lips look healthy. The trick now is your lashes. Get a good mascara that works for your eyes (waterproof so it doesn't smudge) and an eye lash curler to get the most of your lashes. Lastly, accessories. A simple cute pair of studs in your ears can go a long way in completing the look. Remember, first step is confidence. If you have the confidence to pull off these changes, it would go a long way in helping you attract members of the opposite sex.

Why did my veins get thin?

I am 18, but when I was younger, my veins were normal sized and healthy... now I'm in medical school, and I haven't looked at my veins in a long time actually, but just today me and everyone else noticed they were thin as mechanical pencil lead... or... hair... whatever, anyway, they tried drawing blood in every spot on my arms, and no blood. What happened to me? My mom said it could have been cold, and it really was cold at school, but now I just got out of a nice hot shower and they are still like this... all thin and stuff.
Are there any contributing factors to why this happened? I want them back to normal :/

And I guess I could give a couple things that are unhealthy for me that could possibly contribute to my loss of vein-age >_>
I smoke and I RARELY drink water (only when my body physically craves it). I drink lots of milk, chocolate milk, juice, TEA all the time, and sometimes sodas. That's all I can think of and I don't exercise. If there's something I can do to restore my veins' normal size, please let me know :)

How do I gain weight? I am a teenager who is skinny. I am bullied at school because of that, and I am so desperate now. Are there ways to be fat (e.g. supplements to take without side effects)?

I was the same way once. Couldn’t gain any weight no matter what I tried. But if you really want to gain weight and not be fat but healthy give these few things a try.Start Going to the gym- Focus on slow power lifts such as squats, deadlifts, bench press, and various dumbbell exercises to start building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat.Protein Shakes- Whey protein shakes twice a day. This can really help you star putting on weight. Either one scoop or two scoops depending on your daily activities, but make sure to clear it with your doctor. I do believe they have calorie shakes out there too for those who struggle with weight gain.Eat freely but conciously- For bulking season, a lot of powerlifters eat whatever. Pizza, burgers, pasta, junk food, but all in moderation. While eating whatever they like, they also still go to the gym and still eat proper meals such as grilled chicken and vegetables. It keeps a solid balance. Make sure you eat three or even four meals a day.Cut the Cardio- Stopping cardio like running, or high intensity exercises will let you burn less calories which can help you pack on the pounds.I used to be bullied all the time about my size. Then I started working out and people stopped messing with me. Hell, I even had a pretty big circle of friends that I hung out with. No matter what man, be comfortable with who you are. If you want to gain weight, do it for you, and not others. It’s your life, and you are the only one who will live it.-Ian
