Should I choose Sydney or Melbourne for graduate (masters) computer science?

Assuming the question is being asked by someone outside Australia, the answer would be "Neither." Do you know the cost of the degree?   You're looking at AU$35,000 easy for two years just for tuitition, and another AU$10,000 to AU$20,000 a year in cost of living.  (And Sydney is more expensive than Melbourne.  We're talking cities that are both ranked in the top 25 in the world for cost of living.) Masters degrees are really all about making money for almost all universities.  Australian universities are often very much about this, more so than Europe, the USA and Canada.  If you're looking to stay in Australia, then chose the university based around where you want to eventually live.  If you prefer Sydney, then chose the Sydney school.  If you prefer Melbourne, go to Melbourne.  Universities are more likely to hire their own than they are in the USA.  Your contact network will be there, and you'll want to spend a lot of time networking to get the contacts to get you a job after you graduate.  In an Australian context, the quality matters less.  The location and your eventual place you want to settle often matter more.  I've been told several times by people inside Australian computer people that they don't generally preference their alumni, but the program and how well it matches up with their needs.  They also look at your research.  Given those two things, chose the city you think will make you happier or the exact speciality that makes you happier and you enjoy doing more.

Where can I hire the best removalists in Sydney?

There are plenty of removalists and ‘man and van’ services out there in Sydney. If you want to find the best one, there are a few things you can do.Ask for recommendations from friends or colleaguesAsk your proposed removalist for insurances, references and photos of the vehicleFind out if they have moved similar items before, such as a piano, or large family home contentsWhat is their fee structure, are you charged per hour, or one off payment? If you need a removalist fast, this can seem like a huge task to gather across multiple companies. There is a better way where you can browse all the best Sydney revivalists in one place!Search for an online transport marketplace, such as ecoloads, and post a job. Removalists can then bid on your job, ask questions and you can check out their credentials and feedback from other jobs. You pick the removalist you need and pay a one-off fee which is held and only released once the job is completed to satisfaction.Having the revivalists come to you and bid on your job means that you know exactly what you’ll be paying at the end of the job with confidence in choosing a reputable removalist. You then get both a cheap removalist in Sydney and a decent service. Win/Win for everyone!

Uber (company): How can you estimate an Uber fare in advance?

There are two easy ways.1) Just use the app. When you hit "Set Pickup Location" you get to the "Request" screen. From there, there's a button called Fare Estimate.Press it and you can enter a destination and get a fare estimate. You can do this anytime. You don't have to then request a ride. The estimate is valid unless there is a different surge multiplier at the time of the request.2) Go to Uber Fare Calculator. It's not an Uber site but seems to use the Uber API to calculate the same exact estimates the app does.Again, it works anytime. But it reflects the surge multiplier at the time of the search, not whatever is in effect at the time of the request so keep that in mind.(Although I work there, the above is not an official statement of Uber.)

How much do you think a removalist will cost from Brisbane to Melbourne?

You will have to seek quotes from a number of different removalists who do inter - state or long haul removalist work. They will probably take your load as part of another family's larger load. That is combine two loads. This way the two of you will share the overall cost.

On the other hand you may be able to find a smallish removalist who does interstate shifts. Regardless of what you decide to do you must insure your stuff. If would amaze you the amount of stuff that gets broken, stolen, set down at the wrong address in the course of be moved interstate. This is why if you can get one smaller truck to yourself it is a whole lot better.

Look up the business section of the white pages under interstate removalists Brisbane and Queensland.

These are the names that came up under interstate removalists for Brisbane QLD in the Business section. If you look in a hard copy phone book you will find more I am sure. This is a start. If you look you will find the phone numbers and all. They don't copy so I have given you this much info. I hope it is a help.

Each firm will give you a quote. You will probably part with the best part of $500. to $1,000. This is why a lot of people have a garage sale and start anew when the move cities. If you want to hang onto your stuff though and I would encourage you to do so then it is worth the trouble of paying a removalist to shift it for you. Make sure that each company has its' own insurance as well as you insuring your goods. You are entitled to ask to see the policy. They should not become offended if you do ask.

Good Luck with moving. I hope all goes well for you in Melbourne.

Cheers!!!

EDIT: Locost removals is a Melbourne based company that does interstate runs weekly.

Is it legal to live in a van in the big cities of Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane etc.)?

If you were travelling around Australia, you could live in your van, caravan at certain locations, especially in the bush. But you are not permitted to park your van and live in it permanently in city areas. You might get by for one night or so if the ranger doesn’t catch you out. Usually, there are signs that state “No Camping”. You could however , live in your van in a designated caravan park for long periods of time.I hired a campervan in New Zealand sometime ago, and all the idyllic places my wife and I wished to camp the night got no camping signs. We ended up going to caravan parks.Australia is more liberal. But your question pertains to metropolitan areas. My understanding is that you will not be allowed to set up home permanently in the metropolitan area except in caravan parks and designated camp sites.
