Need To Order Some Top Hat To Decorate

Need some unique ideas for a Santa Hat decorating contest?

Hello!

So, I have an office party that is quite awhile away (Dec14th) but they are doing a contest where the most creatively decorated Santa Hat wins a huge prize. So..I want to start early and do this thing right!

So, naturally, I WANT TO WIN! (very competitive girl here!)

I work with some really crafty ladies but (based on last year--we did the same contest) very few of them are unique..I'm expecting a lot of hot glued poinsettia, red and green, snowflakes and the like..but there are a few girls who I consider competition.

Any super duper creative ideas for me that will be sure to make me stand out?

I'm talking along the lines of either funny or classy. Obscure and odd. Or even beautiful and over the top!

Your ideas are SO appreciated!

THANKS :D

First and foremost, whatever you feel is cozy, is what will make your home feel cozy to YOU! However, depending on the décor, I think that throws/blankets can really warm a room up, and are great for snuggling when binge watching your favorite shows. Also candles can warm things up, and add a pleasant fragrance. Flameless candles can be controlled via remote, and usually include self-timers. Those are the safest choice, over traditional candles. After that I think that throw rugs can also make things cozy, especially with hard wood or tile floors. Also throw pillows tend to soften up the look of very clean lines of certain chairs and sofas. In addition to making the room cozy, all of the previously mentioned items can add a pop of accent color that can be easily updated every season, or whenever you care to make a change. Lastly photos of family, pets and friends always add warmth, or even artwork. Best of luck with your decorating!

Decorating a soon to be groom cubicle???

Go to a party supply store and get a plastic 'top hat' and tape it to the top of his computer monitor. Get some wedding bell shaped confetti for his desk. You could always get black streamers (if he's wearing a black tux). Print out a banner that says "Almost Married!". More than likely the store should have the 'Groom' flip flops that you could use to hang outside his cubicle on some ribbon (to make sure it shows up use a colored pencil or crayon to rub over it if they are the type that only show the word after walking in the sand). For fun make a fake name plate that says "Mr. " and put it on the outside of his cube.

That's all I can think of right now.....

The "special hat" is as old as the profession. Prior to restaurants (it is generally assumed that a man by the name of Boulanger started this in Paris when he, in defiance of the food guilds started offering food in his watering hole) chefs were employed by rich families. Since many of those organizations were run and structured like military organizations, decorations and tall hats were a given.Along comes a man by the name of Escoffier (1846-1935) who had a problem. As the head of food service for the emerging Ritz-Carlton empire in London he was charged with streamlining kitchens and making them financially less ruinous. Prior to Escoffier, most people followed the teachings of Marie-Antoine Carême, a French pastry chef who'd branched out into savory but brought with him the flourishes and extreme decorativeness of pastry work.Under Carême it was all about decor and decorum. Chefs had to look like massive peacocks with colors and badges and medals, on plateau shoes and wearing huge feathery hats.Escoffier returned from the lavish looks back to a more military approach to streamline his kitchen. Cooks wore white jackets, chefs white jackets with black trims, commis wore white, cooks green, chefs de partie blue, and chefs red neckerchiefs. There was only one issue — kitchens during the early 20th century still tried to fulfill Carême's "decorum" doctrine, often employing as many as 40 cooks to cook for 200 diners (something we do, today, thanks to technology and Escoffier with five or less cooks). In such a kitchen the "peacock" was not a bad idea — even in the heat of service everyone could ascertain with one glance where the chef was. Either to ask a question or to quickly hide the booze when he came over.So Escoffier, committed to streamlining, modernizing, and minimalizing kitchens, had to find a way to make chefs still stand out. A taller toque was the answer. Between the berets (cooks), ships (commis), and simple hats (chefs de partie) that was a standout. The "101 creases for 101 ways to cook an egg" line is a myth. Under Escoffier these hats had no creases but holes punched into the top for ventilation.

That fuzz ball is called a pom pom. It's purely decorative and whimsical.[Google image]Pompoms go way back! The word is first attested in English 1875, from the French pompon, which referred to what we would think of as a modern pompom as well as puffs made of ribbon or string (It was also the name for button chrysanthemums, but we don't know if the decoration was named for the flower or the other way around). However, pompoms on knitted and woven hats are a lot older than the word in English! In Scandinavia, hats with pompoms (topplue in Danish and Norwegian, toppluva in Sweden; meaning "top cap") predate literacy. There are artistic works of Viking gods wearing them (Rällinge statuette of Freyr), and they are now considered a key component of Scandinavian folk costume.HERE FOLLOWS SPECULATIONAs for function, it seems self-evident that a pompom is useful for hiding the finishing of a hat. Knitting (and the older nålebinding used by Viking Age Scandinavians) allows for a stretchy hat with no seams, until, that is, you get to the top. Modern hats are finished with decreasing stitches which leave seams; or the hat may be constructed as a parallel tube with a drawstring at the top, leaving pleats. Either way, if you're not a expert knitter, you might want to put a pompom on it.It's well possible that they've always been decorative, but we don't really know. You can find more interesting speculation on this Reddit thread.

Where can I find mini top hats?

sorry i can't help you i checked hot topic but theres were out of stock sorry

Wow. So we now have a national holiday dedicated to Spinosaurus.I imagine we would still have to go to school, but we would get to learn interesting facts about this creature. At work, there will be Spinosaurus decorations everywhere, similar to how there are dragon decorations everywhere during the Chinese New Year. Now will I celebrate it? Of course! I don’t see why not.

The pom-pom on many knitted caps is decorative and optional. Very Optional. I see no reason why the top stitches or ring of the cap need be hidden if one has neatly executed them. Further—-except for small children—-I think pom-poms are ugly and silly. They are one of the reasons why some people have an image of knitting as unfashionable and crafty/bad homemade-looking.Frankly, I like a very clean, tailored look in my knitting and also think that fringe is a No-Go as well . . .
