I think OP's commenter on Tumblr is being more factual than figurative. I have a WordPress.com blog and a mirror of it on Tumblr. Not going to bore others with stats, but my WordPress blog has 225,000 hits but my Tumblr mirror 1,500.Tumblr is chiefly a visual blogging platform -- most blogs there are image-heavy and the audience there don't seem to be much interested in text. The fact that Tumblr doesn't have a built-in or functional commenting system already indicates that it's primarily for image blogs.For many people who want to blog (i.e. want to write stuff), then text is the priority, generally. For these text-oriented people, there's only so much to do with images. For image-oriented bloggers, again there's only so much to do with images and sources for the images, which explains the high level of image recycling that goes on in Tumblr (unless of course they actually go out to shoot pics themselves).Other than that, I'd say your quoted comment is pretty spot-on.
